00:27and Exchange Commission and the Bureau of Internal Revenue.
00:30This confirmed that ABS-CBN complied with ownership rules and had no pending tax liabilities.
00:36It is widely believed that Duterte's grudge against ABS-CBN following an anti-Duterte
00:40campaign ad in 2016 was the main reason the franchise was not renewed in 2020.
00:46In May 2020, the National Telecommunications Commission shut down ABS-CBN after its 25-year
00:51franchise expired.
00:53In July 2020, the House voted against renewing the network's franchise.
00:57Various groups view the ABS-CBN shutdown as a critical attack on press freedom in the

01:03It also led to the retrenchment of thousands of employees.
