Last night, we got the news that the Cowboys denied the Bears a chance to interview Mike McCarthy for their vacant head coaching position. Does that mean McCarthy will be back in Dallas next season? Shan, RJ and Bobby talked to NFL insider Ian Rapoport about the situation, whether the denial is confirmation he'll return to Dallas, and who the team would consider if McCarthy doesn't return.

00:00What did you think the Cowboys were going to do about the Bears interview?
00:18Were you surprised yesterday over this news or were you expecting it or you were totally
00:2250-50?
00:23No, I mean I knew there was zero chance they would let him interview with the Bears.
00:28I mean it's a solid ploy, I get it, on both sides.
00:31For the Bears, you make a request, you try to kind of throw a wrench at another person's
00:38situation.
00:39Then for McCarty, it gives him, I guess, leverage, not that he really needs the leverage.
00:43I knew there was zero chance.
00:44I mean it's a thing, but it's not a real thing.
00:49I knew there was zero chance the Cowboys would let the Bears interview him and then they
00:53deny it, obviously.
00:55So it's an exclusive negotiating window.
00:58I think the Cowboys take these things seriously and I think they're going to use, I don't
01:01think they're going to use all of it, but I think they're going to use a pretty good
01:03portion of it.
01:04Well, let's go from zero then to a hundred because I believe that's like near a hundred
01:10percent, that the denial means near a hundred percent chance that McCarthy returns here.
01:17Is that off?
01:18Is that view, does that view make sense?
01:21Well, I don't think the denial means that because I don't think that's, that's always
01:26been my thought.
01:27But I mean, like if I got the denial was always going to happen no matter what the Cowboys
01:31have, you know, the way the Cowboys think, like they have the right to talk to them.
01:35They're going to use that right.
01:36Like they're not going to just give up their exclusive negotiating, exclusive negotiating
01:40window for nothing.
01:41So I knew there was no chance that anyone was going to get to interview him.
01:46But I'm with you though.
01:47I mean, I would say to me, judging from the comments from both sides, you know, judging
01:55from the fact that the Cowboys have continued conversations with him, I mean, I believe
02:00he's back as well, but you know, how that actually happens is an interesting thing.
02:04If you're the Cowboys, what you'd like is the most flexibility, you know, obviously
02:08it's not going to be like this, but let's just say theoretically, like best case one
02:11year deal, give them the option at the end, at the end of next year, that's not going
02:15to happen.
02:16Okay.
02:17What about two years?
02:18That's probably not going to happen either.
02:19All right.
02:20Well then how many years are we talking?
02:22want the longest deal you can get because you want the most security and you want, you
02:27know, I would imagine Mike McCarthy does not want to go through this again next year.
02:30We're all new.
02:31Let's talk about it.
02:32His job status the whole year.
02:34So there's a middle ground in there.
02:36They just have to find it.
02:37But yeah, I'm with you.
02:38Like I believe at the end of the day, McCarthy will be the Cowboys head coach.
