00:00The Department of Agriculture and the Department of Trade and Industry will help to lower the price of rice in the market.
00:09The DA is also studying to declare a National Food Security Emergency
00:15so that the challenges in the supply and price of agricultural products will be solved.

00:25The Department of Agriculture is positive that the local production of rice will recover this year
00:31after the drought, subsequent floods, and the eruption of the Canlaon Volcano in 2024.
00:38The DA is confident that the local production of rice will reach 20 million metric tons again.
00:45Under the proposed Rice Tarification Law,
00:49from Php 10 billion to Php 30 billion,
00:53the assistance allocated to the production of rice will be used.
00:57It is expected that more irrigation will be built, free fertilizer and other assistance will be available.
01:05The result expected by the DA is a reduction in the amount of rice harvested from other countries.
01:12According to the Bureau of Plant Industry,
01:15the highest volume of rice harvested in history reached Php 4.68 million metric tons last year.
01:25Our main focus is the local production.
01:30Importation is entirely out of the government's hands.
01:35That's a business decision of our importers and traders.
01:41The Department of Agriculture and Department of Trade and Industry joined forces
01:46to find a way to lower the price of rice and buy other things like vegetables to help consumers.
01:55The DA and DTI are now studying the maximum suggested retail price for imported rice.
02:05According to the price monitoring of the DA, each kilo of imported rice is Php 40 to Php 63.
02:12For 25% broken rice, the initial price should not exceed Php 50.
02:19And it is possible to lower the price.
02:21At the same time, the DA reiterated that the agency is considering the declaration of the National Food Security Emergency
02:30that will give power to Agriculture Secretary Francisco T. Laurel Jr.
02:35to issue the rice reserve of the National Food Authority
02:40to increase the supply and lower the price of imported rice.
