Jay (Romain Duris) ist Franzose, lebt in Japan, arbeitet als Chauffeur und sucht verzweifelt nach einem Teil seiner selbst - A Missing Part, ganz dem Titel des Dramas entsprechend. Denn aufgrund der japanischen Gesetze rund um Sorgerecht und Scheidung hat er nicht einmal das Recht, seine inzwischen entfremdete Tochter auch nur zu kontaktieren. Jay will sein Kind jedoch nicht aufgeben – und eines Tages steigt eine Person in sein Auto ein, die den Verlauf seiner Geschichte in eine völlig neue Richtung lenken soll.
