The first Saturday following the festive period is known as Sunshine Saturday, and this is because it’s reportedly known as the busiest day for holiday bookings in the UK. According to research by American Express, more than 12 million Brits have already booked flights, transport, or accommodation for international trips in 2025. It’s also been reported that Brits will spend around £1,753 on the average holiday abroad.

00:00We typically see most UK travellers going to places like Tenerife, Lanzarote, Alicante,
00:07but we have seen some big changes on Sunshine Saturday. We've seen Bridgetown in Barbados
00:12come into our top ten. We've also seen Phuket in Thailand be a big popular choice, our biggest
00:18mover in fact of the year. We're also seeing ski season coming into full force and Chamburet
00:24in France seeing a lot of those skiers arrive there.
00:28Abta also reported that despite ongoing pressure on household finances, more than two thirds
00:33of people are planning to travel abroad in the next 12 months, with 84% of people planning
00:38to spend just as much or more on their holidays this year.
00:42Holiday Extra surveyed 1,000 customers and we found that UK holidaymakers are typically
00:48looking at booking three holidays in the next year and for those holidays we've looked at
00:54how they could save some significant sums on their extras. So if you book your parking,
00:59your airport parking at the same time as you book your holiday, you could save £217 on
01:06average every time you travel and that's about £650 when you think of it and you're around
01:11for the whole year. That's practically another holiday.
01:15We also would advise people thinking about dropping their loved ones off at the airport
01:21to be prepared because there are now hidden drop-off charges. You want to drop off your
01:27customers at an airport and you're charged up to £7 at Stansted Airport. I think the
01:31most important thing is doing your research, so really knowing where you want to go, how
01:36you can make your budget stretch a bit further, looking at reviews and understanding what
01:41your holiday is going to entail and also making sure that you think about all of the costs
01:46of your holiday at that time. It's very easy to get to think you've booked your flights
01:50and your hotel and think you're done, but actually those holiday extras need to be
01:54booked at the same time too.
