00:13there's something left in the heart of Sofronio Vasquez.

00:19which is a big part of his success today.

00:52when he discussed one of his biggest inspirations

00:57from his several appearances in auditions and singing contests

01:02that he participated in for hundreds of years

01:04to his dream of becoming a musician.

01:08His contribution to his father's legacy.

01:11It's sad that now, looking back,

01:15supposedly, I know he will enjoy this moment

01:18because he loves to sing.

01:19He was my coach.

01:20But I can't tell him that I won.

01:24He won't make me proud of his friends.

01:28Sofronio admitted that many times,

01:31he lost confidence in himself.

01:33I had an insecurity and I had a question,

01:37is music for me?

01:38I thought, Papa is gone.

01:41So I want to provide the best life that my mom deserves.

01:45I worked as a cruise ship singer.

01:47I became an OFW for a time.

01:49But if you really know in your heart that you have someone you like,

01:53you're looking for someone.

01:55He became a companion,

01:57the father that he talks to in his mind.

02:02I just tell him,

02:04if you're here, what will you tell me?

02:08Then I just hear his voice,

02:10just breathe.

02:12You can do it.

02:14He always tells me,

02:16every time you sing,

02:18don't forget to do sign of the cross.

02:23That's why I do it with a conscious effort,

02:26with my heart,

02:28that this is me doing sign of the cross,

02:30because I remember you.

02:33He was also inspired by his voice coach,

02:36Michael Bubley,

02:38who is still his mentor and guide.

02:42What I appreciate about him,

02:44Michael Bubley would always tell me,

02:46you don't have to be technically perfect,

02:48because you're a person.

02:49Sometimes, perfection is boring.

02:51Imperfection is better.

02:53Do you still have frustrations as a singer?

02:55Frustrations, yes.

02:57But the frustrations are also the ones

02:59who helped me realize that I can make it.

03:03It wasn't easy to fight the voice,

03:06especially his opponents.

03:09But for Sofronio,

03:11what made him win was

03:13hard practice,

03:15prayer,

03:16and honesty.

03:18With Sofronio's victories,

03:21he signed a recording contract

03:23and he wants to include Filipino music

03:26in his music

03:28for the next generation.

03:43Maybe my message is for the parents.

03:47Because sometimes,

03:48the kids will just enjoy being on stage.

03:53to support your kids

03:55and allow them to learn.

03:58Let them feel they failed.

04:03Because I failed a lot of times.

04:05But my mom would always tell me,

04:07it's okay,

04:08let them feel it.
