Dominic Scurr discusses Eddie Howe's press conference ahead of Sunday's FA Cup third round match against Bromley at St James' Park.
Transcript
00:00Good morning everyone, just leaving the Newcastle United Media Centre behind me where we've been speaking to Eddie Howe ahead of Sunday's FA Cup third round clash for Newcastle United against Bromley at St James' Park.
00:15Obviously an interesting game for Newcastle against League 2 opposition so big questions of course asked of Eddie Howe. Mainly, well danced around Bromley a little bit but mainly about transfers.
00:29Martin Dabravka's situation once again being a subject of many press conferences this month and in the weeks leading up to the January transfer window. Obviously that deal with Al Shabaab has been on the table but now a bit of a U-turn really this week.
00:45Eddie Howe spoke after the Arsenal game saying he wants Martin Dabravka to stay at the club, sign a new contract ideally and again he sort of doubled down on that this morning. He said he's hopeful that Newcastle can reach an agreement with Martin Dabravka to stay at the club.
01:00What that agreement looks like, I'm not sure. Talks are ongoing as Eddie Howe put it so we'll wait and see with Martin Dabravka but for now he's a Newcastle United player and based on the way things have turned the past few days and what you're hearing, sounds like he might well stay that way at least until the end of the season although Eddie Howe has suggested that he could even stay a bit longer.
01:27Though I'd imagine Martin Dabravka, 36 next week, he's had a lucrative offer on the table from Al Shabaab. Will he want to commit to another year at Newcastle potentially being a number two? I'm not sure so we'll wait and see on that but Martin Dabravka is set to stay or hopeful of staying at Newcastle United according to Eddie Howe.
01:52Then also injury update, Alexander Isak Hamstring will be rested for the Bromley game but you'd expect him to be back in contention against Wolves next Wednesday for the return to Premier League action. Eddie Howe said probably would have been rested in terms of not starting the game on Sunday anyway but would have been involved in the matchday squad now. Effectively ruled out that the Bromley game won't be involved in that game.
02:18Bruno Gemaraes and Fabian Scheer back in contention after their suspension. So that's pretty much it in terms of the team news, transfer news, nothing really forthcoming in terms of incomings but then Eddie Howe on Bromley, talked about Andy Woodman, Bromley manager obviously spent a lot of years at Newcastle United.
02:42Spoke very highly of Andy Woodman and what staff members who've obviously worked with him previously at Newcastle have said about him so respects the job he's done at Bromley, getting promoted from the National League, winning their FA Trophy and having a solid season by all accounts in League 2 as well.
03:02So Eddie Howe also mentioned quite interestingly one of his, I'd say few career goals was actually scored against Andy Woodman so that's an interesting little tidbit for you in terms of the former encounters between the two managers.
03:17But yeah Newcastle having had a bit of cup success or made big strides in the Carabao Cup at Arsenal in midweek they'll be hoping to avoid a banana skin in their FA Cup and get on another cup run this weekend, starting this weekend against Bromley at St James' Park where another big crowd is expected.
03:40So we'll have all the coverage from Eddie Howe's press conference looking ahead to the Bromley game and then all the coverage of the Bromley game over on theshieldsgazette.com and from myself at domsker on ex-Twitter as we like to call it.
03:55But that sums up briefly what Eddie Howe said or had to say in his pre-match press conference ahead of Sunday's FA Cup third round clash against Bromley at St James' Park. Cheers.
