00:00So, once more, Spider-Man is forced to become Earth's champion and defend against these
00:03magical threats.
00:04But this time is different.
00:05You see, not only is it more depressing this time, but this marks one of the rare times
00:09that the situation actually breaks Spider-Man.
00:11Because yes, while Spider-Man is still in the middle of fighting this gauntlet against
00:14these psions of Sidorak, very, very powerful beings, this time he is up against the twins.
00:19Each of whom represent different things.
00:21One represents pain and destruction, and the other representing the concept of death.
00:25And you know, previously Spider-Man fought against one who represented time, and yes,
00:29death is a part of time, but that isn't the sole focus.
00:32Here though, it gets pretty dark and deep for Peter.
00:34As what he sees and encounters during this entire battle shakes Peter down to his core.
00:39Because as soon as Peter and this female psion of Sidorak are about to engage in a battle,
00:43we find out this isn't just a normal, you know, punch-punch, hand-to-hand type of fight.
00:46Instead, it is a test of endurance.
00:49She has a specialized crystal sphere that quote-unquote only shows the truth and has
00:53become unbearable for the human mind.
00:55And Peter's only goal here is to hold on to it until he can't any longer.
00:59Until the orb has nothing left to show him.
01:01And he only loses if it becomes too much for him and he drops the orb or lets go.
01:05And of course, as soon as Peter picks it up and accepts the challenge, we are thrust into
01:08either a vision, an illusion, or even a possible future of a bunch of pretty bad things going
01:14on.
01:15Specifically, in this first instance, we see it's about Aunt May.
01:17With her being bedridden and weak.
01:19That much closer to death's door, as we find out it was some sort of plague that swept
01:23across the earth, infecting many people, including Aunt May.
01:26In which her hopes for survival are pretty slim to none.
01:28All while this alternate version of Peter can do nothing but watch.
01:31Which is kinda similar to the insomniac version of Spider-Man and Aunt May, how she got infected
01:35by the devil's breath, and of course she shared the same fate and eventually wind up
01:38even dying.
01:39But while all this is happening, we see the current Peter, the one we are following throughout
01:43this whole event, and Syra just watch on.
01:45Because yes, Peter starts to put two and two together.
01:47She is the inevitability of death.
01:49But right now Spider-Man of course isn't too worried, because throughout his life he
01:53has suffered more loss than she can ever know.
01:55He can straight up just watch sad movies about his life and be fine.
01:58Which is maybe a bad choice of words from Peter, because he is going to see exactly
02:02that.
02:03The death of everyone, every one of his loved ones, people he has trained, mentors, friends.
02:07Because at the end of the day, even if Peter is a spectacular Spider-Man, he and everyone
02:11he knows are still human, still mortal, they were born, and eventually have to die.
02:15Which in this next case, we see Mary Jane this time.
02:17In a potential future where they're fighting the Hobgoblin, this isn't just another spectacular
02:21battle and team up, fighting the villain of the day, eventually winning, then moving on
02:24to the next.
02:25No, certain fights have drastic outcomes.
02:27In this case, we see the death of Mary Jane.
02:29But again, even though this is happening and playing out right in front of Spider-Man,
02:33he still doesn't seem too concerned.
02:34With him even going on to say, you know I get this game now, it's who can get bored
02:38first.
02:39Because yes, Peter knows this isn't true, the future isn't written.
02:41Because while these deaths and events would be tragic, he knows this isn't real.
02:45Syra even going on to say, true.
02:47It's possible she dies in her sleep at 94, or even just chokes on some fruit tomorrow.
02:51But what is indisputable, however, is that her life will end someday.
02:54Which is obvious, right?
02:55No one lives forever, and Peter knows this, but the difference here now, is he can feel
02:59it.
03:00He doesn't just know this mentally, thinking years down the line, he can feel it in the
03:03presence, feeling the pains, the heartbreak, of his friends and loved ones dying right
03:06now in front of him, all at once.
03:08With us even seeing a bunch more cases of this.
03:10With J. Jonah dying of a brain embolism, or even Black Cat, Felicia Hardy, her luck eventually
03:15running out and her dropping stories above to her death.
03:18Or even down to Norman Osborn himself, you know, the Green Goblin, almost arch-enemy
03:22of Spider-Man in some cases.
03:23In this entire time, the orb is not only showing, but explaining to Peter, potentially how his
03:27friends and loved ones end, and what exactly they leave behind.
03:30Because as it goes on to say for Norman specifically, hell yes, Norman was a subject of almost 80
03:34books.
03:35He was a scientist, a supervillain, a public servant, monster, father.
03:38Every dimension of his life was studied.
03:40And for a few decades after his death, his name appeared as a footnote in books about
03:44notable humans.
03:45In just a few more decades after that, his name is only found as an answer in trivia
03:49contests.
03:50Meaning, for all of his works throughout his life, for great and for terrible, have largely
03:54been forgotten.
03:55And we even see Peter's thought process behind this all.
03:58Because he goes on to say, Syra is right.
03:59He knows it down to his bones.
04:01It doesn't really matter whether or not this is how his friends actually die, only that
04:05eventually, you know, they will.
04:06One day, whatever makes them, them, will cease to be.
04:09And you know, so far that is obvious, you know, that is the normal part.
04:12The only part that Peter is hung up on is what they leave behind.
04:15Because we see Peter almost develop a nihilistic way of viewing life.
04:19And this next part doesn't help in the slightest.
04:21Because within the next depths that we see, this is the moment that actually breaks Peter.
04:25With it being the actual death of his fellow spider heroes, you know, Miles, Gwen, even
04:29Spider-Boy for better or for worse, even though no one really cares about him.
04:33But still, the oral going on to explain, the next generation of spiders, their lives extinguished
04:38along with the lives of countless others.
04:40Their death will be meaningless in the result of cataclysm.
04:43They do not die as martyrs or as heroes for some greater purpose, they just die.
04:47Humans, full of potential, full of promise and love, they are there one moment, and then
04:50they become empty shells of meat the next.
04:53And I think this part hits Peter the hardest, because yes, even though before he has seen
04:56Aunt May, Mary Jane, die in whatever way they did, you know, they are civilians for the
05:00most part.
05:01I mean, Mary Jane is technically Jackpot, a hero of her own now, but you know, normally
05:04she's just a normal person.
05:06Rather when you have these superheroes, people with extraordinary powers, abilities, and
05:10of course with Spider-Man personally training them, they are supposed to be above normal
05:13civilians.
05:14They are supposed to be the ones who protect the civilians from death and harm.
05:17And so when Peter sees them dead or harmed, it hits way harder.
05:20And it also doesn't help for most of them, Peter was a mentor to them, and they are just
05:23kids.
05:24And it makes matters even worse when he sees Phil Coulson, who at this point has essentially
05:29became the Grim Reaper, guiding people who have recently passed, taking their souls,
05:33and putting them to whatever afterlife or wherever they would go within the Marvel Universe.
05:36And yes, while that does sound kind of crazy, Phil Coulson is the embodiment of death currently.
05:41Because to Thanos, after being rejected by death, he entrapped her within a stone and
05:44eventually that made its way to Phil Coulson, and essentially he has a new role of death
05:48and basically being the Grim Reaper.
05:49But even as Spider-Man is here trying to stop him, it is futile, because Phil Coulson has
05:53a job bigger than anything Spider-Man can comprehend.
05:56Here is the part where Peter fully understands the weight of everything and basically breaks
06:00down.
06:01Not just breaking down in a moment, but as a character and in his mind.
06:04Because as the comic goes on to say, it isn't simply just the pain of dying because Spider-Man
06:08himself has died multiple times, nor is it the fear or the loss itself.
06:11It's simply what Peter now fully understands or at least what the crystal is trying to
06:15show him.
06:16Because again, he's not just seeing it, he is fully feeling the weight of everything
06:19here.
06:20Because with the crystal's clarity, each time he sees a fellow human die, it's simply
06:23the utter lack of impact they had on the world.
06:26And now with Peter now seeing the loss and death on a grand scale, almost cosmic level,
06:30in the ginormous horizon of the cosmos, no singular life matters.
06:33A literal foundation element of Peter's worldview is crumbling with every death that
06:38he witnesses.
06:39With Peter now very briefly bearing the same mental task and evaluation that Phil Coulson
06:44has now as the embodiment of death, he realizes that everyone dies.
06:48At some point, everyone is forgotten.
06:49Every legacy comes to an end.
06:51How starting out in life, you came from nothing and eventually you will return to nothing.
06:55Yes, a very, very dark, depressing, and nihilistic outlook on life, but one that Peter has came
06:59to a conclusion after not only just seeing everything unfolding, but actually feeling
07:03the weight of these people who care about their deaths and their impact on the future.
07:07Now either this is just a natural conclusion that Peter is coming to in his mind, or if
07:10he's being affected by the sphere's influence, it's not explicitly clear, but the result
07:14is still the same.
07:15As eventually, the sphere has nothing left to show him.
07:18Peter has won.
07:19He made it through the sphere's influence, but it came at a cost, altering Peter and
07:22his mind in how he now views everything.
07:24And it's interesting because Syra here, you know, the inevitability of death, who
07:27is behind the sphere and it's doing, she doesn't take pleasure in this.
07:30You know, not like some of the other Scions or even her brother, Kalilex.
07:33She is doing this just because this is her role in all of this.
07:36This is her job.
07:37Her even going on to say how much she hates doing this because this is an endless cycle.
07:41Before it was Doctor Strange, now it's Spider-Man, of her doing this over and over.
07:44But still, once again, Spider-Man has no time to fully process all of this as he is then
07:48attacked by Kalilex, the inevitability of pain.
07:51As he decides now to fully strike after being beaten before and being a sore loser.
07:55Seeing Spider-Man distracted and down, he decides here he is going to try and kill him,
07:59himself.
08:00And with Peter in no shape to fight and defend himself after everything he has just witnessed,
08:03seen, and his little breakdown, he can do nothing but take the pain, take this beating,
08:07all while he still has the orb in his hand, never really letting go, and technically winning
08:11this battle, even though he has to die in the process, with Kalilex taking great joy
08:15in killing Peter.
08:16But it's something that his twin sister does it, so potentially, down the road, she
08:19might even rebel against her siblings and work with Peter to finally end this.
08:23But again, Peter does eventually die.
08:25So with that, he uses another one of his reeds of Ragnador, which bring him back to life
08:29and he only has 8 of them.
08:30And even as he does come back, you know, he should be happy.
08:32He is one step closer to being done with this entire thing, winning another battle in an
08:36instance against the Psions.
08:37Except, you can just see in his eyes, Peter is different.
08:40He is no longer the same that he was before the battle, he now has a slightly different
08:43outlook on life.
08:44Because as he makes it back to his apartment, talking with Doctor Strange, Strange knows
08:47nothing of this and just goes to tell Peter, good job, but you're going to need to redouble
08:50your efforts because the next people ahead are going to require a lot more skill and
08:54imagination.
08:55But Peter here, essentially has enough.
08:57With everything that he has just felt, seen, he has just one question for Doctor Strange.
09:01Why?
09:02Why did they do it?
09:03Why did they do any of it?
09:04Because in Peter's now shifted view, he has come to the conclusion that what they are
09:07doing is meaningless.
09:08In the grand scheme of the universe, multiverse, trillions of time, different timelines, every
09:13single death or someone Spider-Man saves, in the end essentially just becomes meaningless,
09:17pointless.
09:18Because the universe, the multiverse, anything you want to call it, goes on regardless.
09:22That's not even the craziest part, no.
09:23The craziest part is Peter decides to just fully quit, to give up, which is almost out
09:28of character for Peter to a certain extent.
09:30But in this case, it's not before when Peter might have thought being Spider-Man is a net
09:34negative on his life, here he thinks it's just utterly meaningless, there's no point.
09:38And even when Doctor Strange says, you can't just quit, the covenant, this entire thing
09:41must be upheld or the entire world falls.
09:44What is Peter's answer to this?
09:45He simply says let it fall, he doesn't care.
09:48Which is a very, very interesting angle to take for Spider-Man because, you know, Spider-Man
09:52is no stranger to adversity or pain, you know, usually he is the optimist.
09:56Even though he is regularly beaten down in his hero life, his civilian life, he for the
10:00most part never quits, he never gives up, he strives to become better even if all aspects
10:04look bad.
10:05But here, it seems like that isn't the case and he is fully committed to giving up, even
10:09if that means the world itself falls as a consequence.
10:12But said consequences of this, we don't get to see here as this video and comic comes
10:16to a close.
