Is Superman Really As POWERFUL As You Think He Is-

00:00So, this is a different type of video than you're probably used to seeing on the channel,
00:03but recently the trailer for James Gunn's Superman just released, and it sparked a whole
00:06debate about if people truly like the depiction of Superman being all-powerful and invincible
00:11versus a vulnerable while still pretty strong hero.
00:14Kind of like in Zack Snyder's version of the character, there's a lot of parallels
00:18between Superman and him being this god or savior type character, whereas it seems this
00:22newer Gunn version of Superman is taking a different approach, more down to earth, more
00:26vulnerable for better or for worse.
00:28And it even got me thinking, in the grand scheme of things, is Superman, you know the
00:31main DC Comics version of himself, is he truly as powerful as we may think he is in the grand
00:36scheme of the DC Universe?
00:38And while yes, when you think of Superman, you think of this top hero of them all, and
00:41in some ways, yes, that would be pretty correct, but in the same fashion, in a lot of ways,
00:45that just isn't true.
00:46So follow me here as I try to give my take on just how powerful Superman really is, and
00:51is he as strong as you may or may not think he is.
00:53But before we can answer that very specific question, we have to answer the question of
00:56well, what exactly are his powers?
00:58And of course with Superman being arguably or maybe even objectively the biggest superhero
01:02ever created, just rivaled by Spider-Man I believe, but his powers are pretty well known.
01:06There are some lesser known abilities that a lot of people, and you included, may not
01:10have even known he had.
01:11But some of his most commonly thought and shown throughout all types of media are of
01:15course his super strength, strong enough to rival literal gods in the DC Universe, such
01:19as Zeus, Darkseid, Shazam, who was empowered by different Olympian deities, able to hold
01:24different celestial bodies such as planets, moons, even the gravitational forces of different
01:29stars, even black holes, and so on and so forth.
01:32And then you have his speed, which unlike other powerful, super strong bricks in Marvel
01:36and DC and other heroes, Superman is most noted for not only being very strong, but
01:40very fast, able to quite effortlessly and easily go up to light speed, traveling the
01:44galaxy and or universe within weeks, fast enough to perceive and even catch up to different
01:49members of the Flash family or speed force powered individuals.
01:52And I know you probably have seen this image floating around once or twice, and this is
01:55an official DC listing, meaning, at least from this point, he was within the top 5 fastest
01:59named individuals in DC.
02:01And then you have his durability, able to withstand said black holes, take hits from
02:05people on his level and superior, such as Doomsday, Darkseid, other abstract and cosmic
02:11level beings, and still of course live to tell the tale.
02:14But also with his durability, Superman also has a quite proficient healing factor.
02:18Now it might not be on the level of say Deadpool and Wolverine, where they can regrow entire
02:22limbs just like that quickly, but any non-instant fatal wound, give Superman a couple hours
02:26and access to fresh sunlight, and he's going to be back in tip top 100% health.
02:30And then moving over, of course, he has his heat vision, which is able to get hotter than
02:33the sun itself, his freeze breath, x-ray vision, his super hearing, which by the way, is strong
02:38enough to literally hear signals across the galaxy.
02:41But then you have some of his lesser known and explored ones, such as his sometimes mentioned
02:45genius level intellect, his tactile telekinesis, and even high level energy absorption.
02:51Which of course you may say, well duh, Superman can absorb energy, that's how he gets his
02:54power from the sun in the first place.
02:56Yes, but he can do way more than that.
02:59As because not just limiting himself to solar radiation, in the past he has gained more
03:02power and even new forms due to a plethora of other sources of energy, such as magic,
03:07the hellfire pits on apocalypse, or even back in the 90's when he absorbed a bunch of
03:12electromagnetic energy, which gave rise to his superman blue form and different power
03:16set.
03:17And he is able to take all of his current stored up solar energy and expel it in one
03:21giant super move, blowing it all out, causing a massive explosion.
03:25Which I say all of that just to mean, Superman is in no shortage of powers, but arguably
03:30one of his best and most powerful abilities is simply the fact that Superman may not just
03:34have any limits.
03:36As no matter the confrontation or problem, Superman will always rise to the occasion
03:40and get past it.
03:42Even if it means him needing to sun dip or gain more power in a different fashion, it
03:45seems if you truly put his mind to it, there is just no cap to the amount of power Superman
03:49can acquire.
03:50But just to what degree does his powers leave him on the playing field, especially in terms
03:54of power scaling, we will see right now.
03:56As with Superman's aforementioned speed alone and due to a bunch of feats, he is very
04:00comfortably massively faster than light.
04:02Due to catching and even beating some speedsters, he is constantly portrayed and being shown
04:07to be faster than a plethora of different green lanterns.
04:10And green lanterns themselves are able to cross the universe within a relatively short
04:13amount of time.
04:14Or the time he was able to cross from the edge of the entire universe, which by the
04:18way, DC's universe is many times bigger than our in real life observable universe,
04:23but Superman was able to cross from the edge of the universe back towards Earth within
04:2660 days.
04:28Billions of light years, making Superman, no joke, trillions times faster than light.
04:32And don't even get me started when you start to give the guy a little extra sun and solar
04:36radiation, that's when the real crazy and downright unquantifiable things happen.
04:41With him able to reach speeds so fast, they go beyond physics, beyond imagination itself,
04:46it would literally take hours for light to even catch up to him.
04:49Which is crazy when you think about how big of a gap his base state is versus just giving
04:53him a little extra solar energy for him to power up on, he can get to pretty extraordinary
04:57levels.
04:58But it is no different for some of his other powers like for strength, he has been able
05:01to hold black holes in the palm of his hands.
05:04With also having many claims and statements and actual feats of him breaking, splitting
05:08apart, moving different planets, moons, and other celestial bodies with pure strength.
05:13And then going through scaling with him and other characters, he has boxed up and went
05:17toe to toe with some real heavy hitters like Lobo, Darkseid, Doomsday, and again going
05:21back to what I was saying before, with a little bit of extra sun dipping, he can even boost
05:25himself up to knocking out 6 dimensional beings who create entire universes for fun and doing
05:31it with a single punch.
05:32And then we get into even more unquantifiable things like lifting a book with infinite pages,
05:37pulling people and objects from the source wall itself, and so on.
05:41And even for durability, which to me personally, I believe is Superman's strong suit, he
05:45is absolutely no slouch either.
05:47Because there are multiple instances of him being hit, sent through planets, tanking supernova
05:51level explosions, and even recently, Superman claims that he has become so powerful that
05:56universal concepts like weight, distance, temperature, even space-time itself have largely
06:01lost their meaning and effect over Superman, which is just insane.
06:05And in terms of actual fights, he has taken blows and hits from powerful beings like Superboy
06:10Prime, Darkseid's matter erasing omega beams, energy beams from green lantern rings, which
06:15are supposed to be some of the strongest weapons in the universe, and yet Superman can and
06:19has shrugged them all off like it was nothing.
06:21Now I could go on and on into detail about each of his other powers just to show you
06:24how absurd Superman can be sometimes, but you probably get the picture overall.
06:29Superman when he lets loose and isn't low-balled is a pretty scary powerful force of nature,
06:34with him even at his peak power being able to affect and defeat multiversal level beings.
06:39So now you most likely get the picture that Superman is super powerful and all, and may
06:43not even have limbs to how powerful he can become when he really pushes for it.
06:47But, and here's the catch, in a usual day-to-day stance, there are many heroes who outshine
06:51a man of steel in many different categories.
06:53Like The Flash, Wally West, and Barry Allen to an extent, they are both still hilariously
06:58faster than Clark when they need to be.
06:59Wonder Woman is the better fighter and overall combatant.
07:02Batman routinely is shown to be smarter and more innovative in Martian Manhunter.
07:06While he may not be as strong, fast, and durable and stuff compared to Superman, he is still
07:10usually way more versatile, with his phasing and intangibility, telepathy, shapeshifting,
07:15and so on.
07:16And then you have Darkseid and the New Gods, who are shown to be able to sometimes just
07:19straight up out-muscle Clark.
07:21Then in the other corner you have Doctor Fate and the other magic users, through their hacks
07:25and abilities are able to defeat Superman and other Kryptonians.
07:28So yes, while I have been mainly glazing Superman in this video, and while he is insanely powerful,
07:33he isn't in a Homelander situation.
07:35Whereas Homelander is shown to be that strong because he is a big fish in a small little
07:39pond.
07:40Where in Superman's case, Superman is a big fish while still in a ginormous ocean.
07:44It has been shown time and time again that Superman, no matter how powerful he is alone,
07:49there are just some threats, some issues that he just can't beat alone, nor is he suited
07:55So to come back full circle and finally answer the question, in conclusion yes, Superman
07:59is as powerful as you may think, and maybe even beyond that.
08:03But he isn't all powerful, and even loses way more than you may think.
08:06But the catch is, Superman is the ultimate well-rounder.
08:10Because for those like Flash and other Speed Force users that are faster than him, Superman
08:13is insanely more powerful in terms of strength, durability, flight, and other abilities.
08:18And for those who may be physically stronger than him, like your Doomsday or your Darkseid,
08:23Superman uses his intelligence, even though writers a lot of times forget just how smart
08:27he is and just have him be just a normal brick, but he uses his intelligence with his other
08:30abilities to come out on top, all without even touching upon what Superman represents
08:34in the meta sense.
08:35Because when he actually did fight against someone who was way more powerful than him
08:38in the form of Dr. Manhattan, Superman was one of the people Dr. Manhattan wasn't able
08:42to beat fully simply because of what Superman represents in the meta textual sense.
08:47With the DC themselves even going on to say, no matter how many times Superman's existence
08:52is attacked, he will survive.
08:54Even if change is a constant.
08:55Because hope is the North Star.
08:57Which kinda just means that no matter how many times Superman may lose, die, even get
09:01fully erased because of the symbol of Superman and what he means, he will always be brought
09:06back in some way or fashion and prevail.
09:08But that is the end of this video.
09:10If you have enjoyed this new style and type of video, let me know all in the comments
