00:00Okay, good. There we go, that helps.
00:30Too many old faces. Mine included.
00:38Good afternoon, everyone, welcome to our press conference
00:41and welcoming David Moyes back to the Football Club.
00:44We're going to preview the game against Aston Villa
00:47and we'll start off with Alan from Sky.
00:49David, welcome back.
00:51Good to see you.
00:52Can you tell us, first of all, your thought process
00:55when you found out you were linked with a move back to Everton?
00:59Well, it was really quick.
01:01I think Tuesday or Wednesday when I first got a little bit of a call
01:05to say that there was a chance there was going to be a change.
01:08I had several conversations with Dan and Mark
01:13and that's where it really took off from, really.
01:16But up until that point, I had no idea.
01:18I actually thought Sean was doing a really good job
01:22and I didn't see any changes materialising at the time.
01:27And in truth, I wasn't necessarily out there looking to go back.
01:30But as everybody knows, this is a different beast to me
01:35than many other clubs.
01:37I know you said recently that you weren't finished in the Premier League
01:40and you wanted to work again,
01:41but not with a club battling against relegation.
01:44Everton is different.
01:46Yeah, Everton's different.
01:48A couple of weeks ago, I didn't think there was any chance
01:50Everton could be in a relegation fight.
01:52I thought they would be strong enough to get out of it.
01:54I've come into the seat now and I'm going to back that.
01:57Obviously, I believe that we'll be strong enough to stay away from it.
02:00But I'm not kidding myself on, or MDLs.
02:03We'll need everybody behind us.
02:05We'll need the players playing better, scoring more goals
02:08if we're going to make that happen.
02:10You've obviously had various meetings with the owners.
02:14Can you give us some insight into their way of thinking,
02:18bringing the stability to the football club that's been lacking?
02:23There's a lot of people in this room included
02:25who have probably seen the last few years at Everton.
02:28It's been a difficult time.
02:30I admire a lot of them for steering it through a difficult period.
02:34But I have to say that Dan and Mark were very good.
02:40I think a lot of Evertonians should be happy that at the moment
02:43it looks like they're going in the right direction.
02:47I've been really privileged here to work under some great owners
02:50and people who've helped me.
02:52I've worked under people whose intention was to build a better Everton.
02:57I think they've done that.
02:59I think we've done that at a period which wasn't easy either.
03:03I think that this period's not going to be easy.
03:05But I think the new ownership have got big ideas,
03:09big hopes that they can make a big difference to the football club.
03:12People will remember that you had a very special relationship
03:15with the previous chairman in your tenure.
03:19You'll want to build that again.
03:21But how different will it be?
03:23It's different because they're in America at the moment
03:25and I'm here just now.
03:27So the conversations have been mainly through video calls.
03:31But yesterday I had a couple of Americans over.
03:34Mark was here, Brian was here who we had another conversation.
03:38Maybe after this as well I might have a chance to speak to them again.
03:43At the moment it's like anything else.
03:46You never can tell how managers are going to do it.
03:48But managers can't really tell what owners are going to do either.
03:51It works both ways.
03:52But at the moment I've found the conversations good.
03:56I've found they want to get us back on track.
03:59We all know we need a little bit of a sticking plaster at the moment.
04:03We have to try and make that work.
04:05Is that the immediate issue?
04:07It's obviously trying to win football matches.
04:09But what are the issues and priorities for you?
04:11Have you got your feet under the table?
04:13Winning football matches is always a priority, isn't it?
04:16Obviously there's other things.
04:18There's building a club back up if possible.
04:24I don't think it's been done by any managers.
04:27I think the damage has been done through a long period of time.
04:31But I actually think they've had a great time here.
04:34I'd love to be part of making it better if possible.
04:37I think at the end of it there's a stadium.
04:41But the stadium looks the business.
04:44It looks elite.
04:46So we need to start getting some elite players.
04:49We need to start looking at the level of the players
04:51that we can give everybody something to shout about
04:54when we move to the new stadium.
04:55On that note, have you been given any indication at all
04:58about availability of funds in this transfer window?
05:01Is that something you would seek to utilise immediately?
05:05Absolutely.
05:06If I can give the support of something to shout about as well.
05:09We're bringing in some new players.
05:12It's probably the things that the managers do.
05:15It's never that easy.
05:17It's probably even a little bit more difficult here
05:20because it's not been a great situation for a while.
05:23I need to impress the people, tell them that we need them to come.
05:27What we're going to try and do here.
05:29The new players who are going to come here,
05:31we want them to be excited by the thought of going to the new stadium.
05:36Overall, I hope we can all get together
05:39and find a way of spending a bit of money.
05:42As you well know, we've still got a little bit of work to do
05:46to clear everything.
05:48So we need to be mindful of that as well.
05:50You'll be working with a director of football here in Kevin Thelwell.
05:54How do you see that area?
05:56I know you worked with something similar at West Ham.
05:59Yes, and I did one at Real Sociedad as well.
06:02So I've had it.
06:04It's fine, Kevin's been here a lot longer than me.
06:06I'm needing to go to Kevin to find out exactly what's happening.
06:11So for me, just to turn up and know all the players in the market
06:14and all the players where they're playing,
06:16it's really difficult.
06:18So I need to take their advice, their help,
06:21and collaborate together and find a way, hopefully,
06:24of doing the right things.
06:26Goals have been a big concern for Everton this season.
06:29Not scoring in 11 of 19 Premier League matches,
06:32priority number one.
06:34Do you have to do anything different?
06:36Is it a confidence factor with strikers?
06:39Well, I think if we all knew the answer,
06:41then we would have done it.
06:43The past manager would have done it as well.
06:46We have to find a way of scoring goals.
06:48Sometimes you can get streaky and score goals,
06:51but we need to do it, whether it's through set pieces,
06:54we need to do it through our open play.
06:56But, of course, you need all the players to chip in with the goals.
06:59We'll be putting more pressure on the forwards
07:02to try and be the ones who do it.
07:04We might look to strengthen in those areas
07:07if we can't get results ourselves.
07:10Thanks, David.
07:11Next up, we'll go to Ellen at PLP.
07:13Hi, David.
07:14Just coming from your first training session
07:16with the lads not so long ago,
07:18what shape is the squad in?
07:20Well, it's the first day I've been with them, really.
07:23It was an opportunity to train with them and see them.
07:27I think the squad's in good spirits in the main.
07:32They've obviously been in this position before,
07:35so the position they're in just now
07:37is not something which has just happened to them.
07:39They've done really well to make sure
07:41that they weren't in the wrong places
07:44in the Premier League in the last couple of years.
07:46So, I wouldn't say...
07:48I don't think you want to get a feeling
07:50that we're very good at avoiding being down near the bottom.
07:55But I found the players good today.
07:57I've got to say, I really enjoyed being out with them.
08:00We trained well, we had a bit of laughter,
08:02a bit of fun as well.
08:04So, sometimes when it's not so good,
08:07you need to make sure that we try and keep their chins up
08:09and keep things quite bright.
08:11And, of course, plenty of familiar faces
08:13from your last spell here.
08:15It was Leighton Baines and Seamus Coleman,
08:17players that you brought in,
08:19who took charge of the FA Cup game.
08:21Was there a feeling of pride
08:23watching them step up into that role?
08:25Absolutely, because I think as a manager,
08:28when you bring players in, you hope they can all
08:30step into coaching or management,
08:32if they choose to do so.
08:34I'm really fortunate that I've had
08:36so many now over my time
08:38who are going into management,
08:39but it also shows my age as well at times.
08:41So, I have to be mindful of that.
08:43But, look, Bainsey has been around for a long time here
08:48and he's been working with under-18s
08:50and I just thought it was right that Leighton
08:52get a chance to step up.
08:54I'm getting told he's a very good coach
08:56and can work well.
08:59We'll do a lot of things, but as I said,
09:01we're probably going to do things up
09:02and see how we get to in the summer.
09:04We need to get to work quickly.
09:06I need people who I trust
09:09and people who know how I work quickly.
09:11We may look to alter things a little bit in the summer,
09:13but at the moment, I need people around me
09:16who know exactly how I'm going to work.
09:18Could you see yourself working with those two
09:20in a coaching capacity in the future?
09:22Yes. I mean, Seamus still wants to play,
09:24but I've got to say Seamus is a great leader off the pitch
09:27as far as I know.
09:29I've been away for a long time,
09:30but I think we bought him for about ÂŁ60,000 at one point
09:34and it's been great value.
09:36I hope we can buy a few in this window
09:38at that price and be as good as Seamus has been.
09:42In terms of that FA Cup game,
09:44one of the big headlines afterwards,
09:45of course, Amanda Brouillard going down
09:47in such a concerning fashion.
09:49Do you have an update on where he is?
09:52Yes, he's going for another scan.
09:56I think there's a little bit of mix.
09:58One moment we're thinking it's not too bad,
10:00so that's why we're doubling up.
10:01We're just waiting on a bit of swelling to go down
10:03before he goes for the scan.
10:05Hopefully, we'll get a better idea in the next few days.
10:08Thanks, Alan. We'll go to Dan at the BBC.
10:11Hi, David. Congratulations.
10:13You were unveiled here for the first time in 2002.
10:15You were the youngest Premier League manager at that time.
10:18I think you're now the oldest
10:19and certainly the most experienced.
10:20Don't say that, Dan.
10:22There's a value in experience, obviously.
10:24I just wonder, how different do you think you are
10:26as a result of the journey that you've been on
10:28since leaving here in 2013?
10:30How different is this club as well?
10:32I'm not coming back to the same Everton as what I left it.
10:36I don't believe I am.
10:38I don't think Everton are getting the same David Moyes,
10:41who was here at the time he was as well.
10:43I hope they're getting somebody a bit more experienced,
10:45maybe a bit wiser.
10:47It's interesting when you go back, Dan,
10:49sometimes when you're youthful,
10:51you don't carry as much baggage.
10:53The different things that come up through your career.
10:59Obviously, I've got over 1,000 games
11:01and quite a lot of experience in the Premier League.
11:03But Everton were really the reason that started.
11:06They gave me an opportunity when I was a young coach.
11:08They gave me an opportunity to step into the Premier League.
11:12It was a great period for me and I'll be ever grateful
11:15as I am for getting a second go at it.
11:18How valuable is that experience at West Ham, David?
11:20There were real parallels.
11:22When you went there in 2019,
11:23they were just above the relegation zone.
11:25You saved them and then you went on to enjoy success there
11:28and get them into Europe.
11:29We know what happened after that.
11:30Can you draw upon that experience here,
11:32given similarities?
11:33Yes, I feel as if I will do and I can.
11:37Ultimately, the thing we've got to do
11:39is make sure that we're not near the bottom.
11:41That's the big key.
11:43After that, we can decide how we go and what we do from there.
11:47The period at West Ham was a great period.
11:52A great period for the club, I felt as well.
11:54I think that we grew West Ham in a certain way.
11:57Certainly, we got away from relegation trouble
11:59and went on to, I think, a sixth finish,
12:02a seventh finish, a ninth finish
12:03and three out of four years in the Premier League.
12:08At Everton here, I can only remember
12:11as always feeling like a team who were challenging
12:13against the top teams, trying to be in Europe.
12:17That took a little bit of time,
12:19but we've done it quite quickly here
12:21and I've done it quite quickly at West Ham.
12:23My idea is to try and do everything as quick as I can here
12:27because I'm not going to be here for 11 years like I was before.
12:31I'll be here for a period to try and maybe stabilise
12:36and try and take the club in another direction
12:38or get it better.
12:40I'm really looking forward to it
12:41and I hope that I can have similar levels of success
12:44in some ways which West Ham had.
12:47Actually, I think even Everton at the time,
12:49if we look back now, we'd say there was probably
12:52levels of success in those years as well.
12:54As you've touched upon earlier, this is a club
12:56that's gone through quite an ordeal in recent years,
12:58relegation fights, points deductions,
13:00the threat of financial difficulties.
13:03But there's this excitement, as you say,
13:05of the new stadium and this new start.
13:07Do you see that as an awesome, very exciting responsibility
13:10but with that comes a great deal of pressure
13:12to be the man to ensure that come next season
13:15this club is in the Premier League still?
13:17I do, Dan. I see it as a huge pressure.
13:20I think when you care so much about a club
13:22and you've had such a long period
13:24and even today there's a lot of people here
13:27who was here 11 years ago.
13:28A lot of the same press who were here
13:3011, 12 years ago.
13:33It makes me realise that it is a really popular
13:37football club and one that needs to be
13:40in the top flight and has been.
13:42And look, it would be a great feeling
13:45for us all to go into the new stadium
13:47but it'll be mainly great if we're a Premier League club
13:50and we can give everybody something to shout about.
13:53Thanks, Dan. We'll go to Talk Sport.
13:56Hi, David. I know you said that it came around quickly
13:59but in the time that you've been away
14:01have you ever thought you'd like to come back
14:03or feel maybe there's unfinished business here?
14:05Well, I've come very close to coming back
14:07on, I can tell you, three, maybe four occasions.
14:10I've had talks at different times,
14:13different periods in my career to come back
14:15and for different reasons it's fallen through
14:17or not quite happened.
14:19But that's football and I've got no problem with that at all.
14:22It used to be going back didn't sound good
14:25but I went back to West Ham after the first time
14:28and went back to the second time
14:30and we went on to win a European trophy
14:35and sold the most expensive player in Britain.
14:38So sometimes at Football Cubs, I remember here
14:40in the early days having to sell Wayne Rooney
14:42and on our journey we had to sell players
14:45to rebuild and get ourselves a better team.
14:48So we're back on the journey again.
14:51How dissimilar is the job that you are undertaking now
14:54compared to the one that you took when you first came here?
14:58It's really difficult because the thing that I would say
15:01is I remember my first day
15:03and I have to say I was really nervous coming back here.
15:06I came back yesterday to see everyone.
15:07I was really nervous coming back.
15:08I hadn't been back here for so long.
15:10I hadn't been back here since the day I left.
15:14But the first day when I walked in
15:16I had to go into the dressing room with Davide Ginola,
15:18Paul Gascoigne, Duncan Ferguson, Tommy Graveson
15:22with me being a really young coach and I'm saying
15:24my goodness, they won't even know who I am.
15:27So I walk back in a different stage of my career probably.
15:33People know me a bit more, the players will know me.
15:35I know a lot of the players through different teams
15:37and playing Everton and some of them who
15:40I've probably tried to sign myself.
15:44I hope that we can get together and work well
15:47and make something happen.
15:48You obviously start against Aston Villa.
15:50The job that Unai has done there is maybe
15:53kind of an example that you want to follow with Everton
15:55to come over when they're at the bottom now?
15:57Amazing job.
15:58I don't think we should be surprised.
16:01But let's be fair, they've been consistent in their spend.
16:05Aston Villa over quite a few years now
16:08tried to back the managers, tried to make sure
16:10that the team was improving, buying good players.
16:12But the manager there has been a wonderful manager
16:16and has shown doing a really good job.
16:19Thanks Mark. We'll go to Julia.
16:21Hiya David.
16:22Hiya.
16:23What will David Moyes 2.0 Everton play like then?
16:29Well it's a good question because I expected somebody
16:31to say something like that and I'm thinking that
16:33I'm going to try and play to win as many games
16:36as I possibly can to get myself out of this position.
16:38Then I'll start thinking about how my style
16:41is going to develop and what I'm going to do
16:43to make that work.
16:45I couldn't tell you exactly what the biggest strength
16:48of all the players here because I might know better
16:50say in a month's time once I've had them.
16:52I get to see them play, I get to see best positions,
16:56how I think they know what they're good at.
16:59So for me to come in and strike something,
17:02I don't know if we're in that position where we can
17:04quite do that yet.
17:05But my plan is to come in and get as many wins
17:07as I possibly can.
17:08Will having two home games in a matter of days
17:11help with that?
17:12And help you settle back in as well?
17:15Good, it's going to help.
17:16It's going to help.
17:18But what we've got to talk about is the opposition.
17:20We're playing against two really good sides.
17:22I know Tottenham are having a little bit of up and down,
17:25but two big games.
17:27My history will tell me that Goodison has played
17:30such a big part.
17:31If it could do it again and help us,
17:34it will be really important.
17:36I feel now that we need a little bit of help.
17:39I saw the support that the Evertonians gave the team
17:42in the run-in last year, which was needed.
17:46Hopefully we're not in that position at the moment,
17:49but I'm hoping that the crowd get right behind the players.
17:54Do you believe this is a relegation battle then?
17:57I believe we've got a team of players who,
18:01a few weeks ago, I didn't see any difficulty.
18:05I don't know whether it's just the odd result
18:07or maybe other teams picking up a few points.
18:10But we've got a lot of work to do to move up the table
18:13and we have to do that.
18:14I'll focus on the next game.
18:16There's very little time to really have prep
18:20with just the way things have gone.
18:23I hope that we're ready the best we can against Aston Villa.
18:26I appreciate it.
18:27It's been a really quick turnaround and you're arriving.
18:30You said there that you believe these owners
18:32want to build a better Everton.
18:34The conversations you have had,
18:35what was it that convinced you about that?
18:37What did they say?
18:40I think that the problems that the club have had,
18:43we feel as if they're not completely over
18:46but we're very close to getting them over.
18:48I think that's the bit that excites me more.
18:51I think then we can go back to maybe trying to grow the team.
18:55I think for many years it's been stifled
18:57because of the financial situation.
19:01The new owners, I'm sure, are clearing as much as that up.
19:04I think there's still a little bit maybe to get done.
19:06But I think overall, the new owners have got ambition
19:11to try and get Everton back nearer the top.
19:15If you were a new owner coming in to take over a new stadium
19:18which is getting put up, it would be fantastic.
19:21I remember here, when I first came in,
19:23everybody was talking about what area
19:25are Everton going to move to in the stadium.
19:27We were out looking at different sites.
19:30We sit here today in Finch Farm.
19:32I remember the first day I came in,
19:33the last time I was getting asked
19:35would I come and look at these strawberry fields
19:37to see if I think a training ground would be suitable here.
19:42I remember coming down on just about the first day
19:44I took the job before.
19:46Things move on.
19:48We're now coming back to a new stadium.
19:50I'm hoping I can lead the team into that arena.
19:55Thanks, Julia.
19:56We'll go to Carl at the Press Association.
19:59Hi, David.
20:00How are you doing?
20:01Good.
20:02You've obviously, in the last decade,
20:04watched from afar with maybe some interest,
20:08maybe not, about what's going on here.
20:10How do you feel about the state and the status of the club now,
20:15as it is now, compared to where you left it?
20:18Well, I think...
20:22I left, and I'm only saying this,
20:24I felt as if I left a brilliant team.
20:28Great characters.
20:30The staff around here were amazing at Everton.
20:34They really were, and we were really close.
20:36I've walked back into a different thing now.
20:38Instead of maybe having, I don't know,
20:4010, 15 staff around,
20:42we're probably walking into a place having
20:4480, 90 staff.
20:45So there's big changes over the years.
20:47But probably the biggest compliment I could give
20:49would be the players I had and the players we had.
20:51It took me a bit of time to build that,
20:54but I actually thought most years here at Everton
20:57we made a bit of progress.
20:59We didn't have huge money,
21:01and we've not got huge money now,
21:03but we sort of got another league up.
21:06And probably the biggest thing,
21:08near enough at the end of the time,
21:10I don't know if we'd hit a glass ceiling,
21:12but we had started to feel that
21:14we couldn't really get much further
21:16because we were finishing 6th, 7th,
21:18you know, a lot of the time.
21:20So I think the new ownership,
21:22everything that came in,
21:24I think put in great money
21:26to try and help Everton.
21:28Money in football is always the thing
21:30we talk about.
21:32It's not always the thing.
21:34Sometimes just being able to
21:36put money in football
21:38is not always the thing.
21:40Sometimes just having the right characters,
21:42good players and people who work hard.
21:44Sadly, it's looking a bit more like
21:46money is the thing to get you success.
21:48So let's hope that we're able
21:50to get into that situation.
21:52So I think we're trying to build
21:54the club up again and try to
21:56get it back to where we think it should be.
21:59So you said the status of the club,
22:02you said they were knocking on
22:04Champions League at the time you were here.
22:06Has it been diminished by what's happened ever since?
22:10Well, I don't think you could say
22:12it can be diminished because I think
22:14the people came in with great intentions
22:16bought lots of really good players,
22:18done a lot of good jobs
22:20and in the main, probably,
22:22I've built most of the stadium,
22:24I've put the plans in for most of the new stadium.
22:26So you have to give them a lot of credit
22:28for what they've done there.
22:30I don't understand all the things,
22:32I don't know where the financial fair play
22:34has changed over the years.
22:36But what I do know is that
22:38I don't think they came in
22:40with their own intentions.
22:42Thanks Carl.
22:44We'll go to Will at the back there.
22:50Hi Davies. There's 11 players
22:52who are out of contract in the summer
22:54and obviously they've moved to a new stadium
22:56maybe the PSR situation will be a bit better.
22:58Does it feel like there's a bit of a blank canvas
23:00that you can build on?
23:02Obviously you're saying there's players
23:04coming out of contract but I need a lot of those players
23:06to show that they're
23:08up for helping us
23:10and not thinking about other things
23:12if they are.
23:14Obviously I'm just in so I'm not in a position to judge
23:16what they're doing. I'm sure the people before
23:18have had a look at that.
23:20But you're right, I think there is a chance for
23:22a freshness.
23:26I don't know, youse people know
23:28much more than me about what's been spent
23:30over the years and different things.
23:32Maybe we need to be really careful
23:34in how we spend and what we spend it on
23:36and the people we bring in so that we get it
23:38right. We don't want to mess up
23:40with what we're going to do.
23:42But you're right,
23:44I think there's 11 people out of contract
23:46and that'll be something we'll need to
23:48do. But let me say, I think in football
23:50generally
23:52you're going to find it a little bit more.
23:54I think that players are now running their contract down
23:56more than maybe done years gone by.
23:58And I think because
24:00bigger squads mean that
24:02most clubs will probably be moving on
24:04four, five, six players more this year
24:06and probably try to bring in four, five, six players more
24:08than what they used to do in the past.
24:10One of those players is Dominic Calvert-Lew
24:12and he's scored two goals this season.
24:14You've talked about putting pressure on the forwards.
24:16Do you talk to Dominic about the future
24:18and how do you get the best out of him if he is to
24:20stay in CLC's contract?
24:22Well I've probably only got round
24:24the players today and I'll get a chat with him.
24:26I think we all
24:28feel that he could be the one who could make a big difference.
24:30Get his goalscoring
24:32boots back on. It'll be a
24:34big help to Evertonians
24:36and to the manager as well.
24:38We'll give him
24:40as much confidence and help
24:42him as much as we can. We'll give him as much practice
24:44as we can. But then there's a little
24:46bit where you need the player
24:48to stand up and do his bit as well.
24:50But
24:52I'm just in so hopefully we'll get
24:54him working. But I've told him
24:56that I'm needing goals off him
24:58right away and he has to start delivering.
25:00I don't know how much you know about team news. Do you know
25:02if Dominic's back? Have you missed a piece of his game? Do you know if
25:04Dwight Nails is back as well?
25:06No, Dwight's not. I know that.
25:10Dwight's still got a
25:12little bit of an ongoing knee issue as far as I know.
25:14And Dominic's
25:16trained today so we think he should be okay.
25:20We'll go to Patrick at the Athletic.
25:22Hi David. Were you able to tell us about
25:24who's going to be coming with you as part of your
25:26backroom staff? You mentioned Leighton. I've spoken
25:28positively. Will he be part of it?
25:30Yeah, Leighton will be. I'll bring Leighton up.
25:32As I said, I'm probably
25:34going to try and work quickly
25:36with people I know and trust
25:38because of the situation.
25:40So Billy McKinley, who's
25:42worked with me for a while, is with me now.
25:44Alan Irvine will join
25:46probably after next
25:48weekend. And Bainsey.
25:50So I've tended to work with a bigger
25:52staff as I've got on, just like
25:54probably everywhere else in football. The staffs
25:56get bigger.
25:58So I want to try
26:00and look to bring in
26:02a coach with an idea
26:04of working on mainly set pieces
26:06and doing that as well.
26:08And I've got some ideas
26:10I might look to alter in the summer but
26:12I want to get us over the line first
26:14before I start disclosing
26:16too much of what I might do then.
26:20Any further questions in the open section before we
26:22move on?
26:24We'll take one more from you.
26:28You said at the top
26:30you weren't actively looking
26:32to get back. Is this the only club job
26:34you'd have taken to come back?
26:36Yeah, I believe so
26:38because I don't think there's anything else
26:40which was really...
26:42I've had
26:44other opportunities to consider
26:46other jobs. Quite a few
26:48in the few since I've left
26:50West Ham. And I didn't feel
26:52ready for it anyway.
26:54But I always felt that
26:56if the job
26:58came up, and I didn't expect the job to come up
27:00I really didn't. I didn't see it.
27:02I think, to be honest, I don't think
27:04many people did at the time.
27:06But when I get asked
27:08about it this week it was just too
27:10big an opportunity to turn down.
27:12I want to try and show
27:14that I can go again. I think in football
27:16you always have to prove yourself. It doesn't matter who
27:18you are, you always have to do it.
27:20I'll try and do that again.
27:22You've spoken about the ownership.
27:24They've shown, I think, that they're quite
27:26ruthless, not just here in the short time they've been
27:28but at Roma as well. Any concerns about that?
27:30Oh, who's not concerned
27:32about their owners? All managers
27:34are concerned about their owners. We have
27:36a huge influx of
27:38American owners in the Premier League.
27:40I wouldn't say they're all. You can work
27:42out the numbers yourself. We've got a big
27:44level. So we have to work out
27:46their culture, how they think, what they're
27:48expecting. So it's a big
27:50job for the managers. I'm part of the League Managers
27:52Association and we're
27:54trying to come up with a
27:56way how to please American
27:58owners because
28:00there's certainly a lot of them in football, not only
28:02in the Premier League and a lot of the lower leagues as well.
28:04Okay, thanks folks.
28:06We'll move on to the Embargo section.
