This afternoon is grey in many parts of the country, with some outbreaks of drizzle in Wales and Northwest England. However, there will be some sunny blue skies in southern and northeastern England as well as in parts of central Scotland.
The temperatures will be average in the south of the UK but higher than normal further north. - This is the Met Office UK Weather forecast for the afternoon of 14/01/2025. Bringing you today’s weather forecast is Alex Burkill.

00:00Hello, we've made it halfway through meteorological winter but at the moment
00:04it's actually quite mild for this stage in the year. As well as that it's
00:09relatively calm across many places that's because we have high pressure
00:13sitting just to the south of us and it's this high that's going to dominate the
00:17weather across many parts through much of this week. That being said we do still
00:20have a weak front lying across central areas and it's here where we have the
00:24thickest cloud through the rest of today and with that then there will be some
00:28drizzly rain around some spots of light rain here and there. So a bit damp a bit
00:33dank in some places that cloud will be quite low so some hill fog possible too.
00:37Across southern counties we will see some bright blue skies at times but a
00:41bit of cloud pushing its way southwards as we go through the afternoon. Perhaps
00:45the best chance of any sunshine will be across some parts of northeast England
00:49and central eastern Scotland to the lee of high ground with the winds coming in
00:53from the southwest. Temperatures like I said at the start are above average for
00:57the time of year especially towards the north widely getting into double figures
01:01closer to average further south with highs of around 8 or 9 Celsius generally
01:06here. As we go through this evening and it stays pretty cloudy across many parts
01:11of England and Wales that cloud really thick so still some drizzly outbreaks of
01:15rain and we will have some hill fog some poor visibility in some places as that
01:20cloud lowers in some places too. Some clear skies across eastern Scotland
01:25northeast England perhaps also developing clear skies across Northern
01:28Ireland too and where we get those clear skies temperatures may take a bit of a
01:32dip. Eastern Scotland may see a touch of frost perhaps but elsewhere it's looking
01:36like a pretty mild night because of the largely cloudy skies quite a bit
01:40milder than last night across southern coastal parts where it was a bit frosty
01:45first thing this morning. Otherwise as we go through Wednesday then a grey start
01:49for many of us some drizzly rain some low clouds some hill fog so some
01:53visibility issues but towards the northwest we see the winds picking up
01:57and so that's going to help clear away the cloud so across Northern Ireland
02:00plenty of sunshine through the day and across parts of Scotland northern and
02:04western England and Wales we will see the Sun breaking out so plenty of blue
02:08skies as we head into the afternoon but across more central southeastern parts
02:12the thick cloud lingering here still some spots of drizzly rain it's only
02:17going to be light but a bit damp in places and still some of that hill fog
02:20in places as well. Towards the far northwest of Scotland here we are going
02:25to have some rain pushing its way in and here we're going to have the strongest
02:28wind so turning pretty blustery. Temperatures still a little bit above
02:32average for the time of year perhaps not quite as high across some northern parts
02:36compared to today and in the south perhaps a touch milder but really with
02:40that cloud it's not going to feel particularly pleasant. As we go through
02:44and to the rest of the weekend well the largely dry weather sticks with us
02:48towards the northwest always the greatest chance of seeing some rain and
02:52some stronger winds but most places stay largely dry. Thursday will bring some
02:56bright skies at times but Friday Saturday it's looking pretty cloudy and
03:01with that we're going to see the return of some colder air so likely to have
03:04some more frosts as we head through the weekend as well. Now it is Tuesday so
03:08remember we will have a deep dive this week it's with honour and it will be
03:12available on both our YouTube channel and our app later on this afternoon. I'll
03:16see you again soon bye bye
