Take a look at the First Look Video for Prologue: Go Wayback!, the first game in a three-game plan in the form of an early access single-player open-world emergent survival game developed by PlayerUnknown Productions. Prologue is a testbed for the studio’s terrain-generation technology, capable of creating millions of unique maps in real time. The game challenges players to survive as they traverse a dynamic, and at times cruel, natural landscape with a simple goal of making it from one side of the map to the other.

00:00When I first announced Prologue,
00:02I was trying to make a larger open-world experience
00:06than most people had made,
00:07and we found a way to do that using machine learning technology,
00:10using natural earth data to generate these worlds from latent space,
00:14and we essentially reinvented how you create these worlds.
00:17We have a three-game plan and it's about iteration for us.
00:20It's starting small with Prologue,
00:22which is a prototype of an idea.
00:23We'll use early access to build on that and make it into a full product.
00:27It allows you to have a new map to play on every time you press play,
00:30a large 8x8 map where we have put a simple survival loop,
00:34get from one side of the map to the other side of the map
00:36with some difficult weather along the way.
00:38It's not just raining and moody.
00:40It's not just an aesthetic thing.
00:41It's not just that the player is cold and wet.
00:43Suddenly now, oh wait, mud forms, rivers can go up.
00:46If you die, that's it.
00:48We're also working on Melba, which is our in-house engine.
00:51We're putting this into the hands of the community
00:53in something we're calling Preface Undiscovered World.
00:56It's a very simple experiment where we have an earth-scale planet
01:00and some simple systems to allow you to explore it.
01:02I don't believe in technology developed in vacuum.
01:05It's why we have Preface, which is more about attacking the scale.
01:09So we attack the problem from both ends.
01:12Preface, it's already on Steam.
01:14So you can go there and download Preface Undiscovered World.
01:19I really want to involve the community early on
01:21because this is going to be a five or 10-year journey.
01:24Prologue will be available on Steam coming in Q2 next year.
