00:00Hi I'm Mike, I work as an electrician and an entrepreneur.
00:06I'm Ian, I work as a Wim Hof Method instructor, an entrepreneur and a wellness coach.
00:12I'm Elliot, I've got a new job in Sanctuary Trust on Athol Street. The inspiration for
00:20Morning Momentum came from this guy that we brought along with us, Ian. In 2013 I got sick,
00:26I got diagnosed with a bowel condition that I was told I would be on medication for
00:31potentially the rest of my life. I didn't want to go down that path, I'd seen family members
00:35and friends suffer with depression and seen how medication hadn't got to the root cause of the
00:40issue. So during that time when I was sick I went through a heartbreak, I just bought a house,
00:47just got engaged and that relationship broke down and at that moment I was probably in the
00:56lowest moment of my life but I knew that I didn't want to go down the medical route to help myself
01:00so I wanted to find any way naturally to help heal myself. This sent me on a journey where I
01:08changed my diet, looked into a lot about nutrition and never wanted to get into the cold because
01:12like most people I hated the cold, I was not a fan of even the New Year's dip but it got to the
01:18point where a friend of mine's father who was sick and diagnosed with terminal cancer
01:24told me about the Wim Hof Method. So the Wim Hof Method is, so Wim is a Dutch gentleman who has
01:30had 26 world records for things like running a half marathon barefoot above the Arctic Circle,
01:36he climbed Everest in a pair of shorts getting to up into the death zone, he ran a marathon in
01:42the Namibian desert without drinking any water so it wasn't just the cold but also the extreme
01:47heat that he's pushed his body through, he also sat in an ice bath for two hours regulating his
01:52own body temperature. To bring his method to the world which is a combination of breathing
01:57techniques to reduce inflammation in the body, I wanted to pass on Wim's message as part of his
02:02mission to help the world be healthy, happy and strong using natural methods. You start your day
02:07in the most positive way you can then you set up for the rest of the day so you do something
02:11challenging in the morning you can then you set up to face any other challenge in the day and
02:15getting into the freezing cold water is quite stressful and quite challenging but it's learning
02:20how to control yourself so I'm going to pass this over now to Michael and he will tell you how it
02:24came about. How morning momentum come about? Well first come about 2021, first week of spring
02:35start of the year you could say, on Laxey beach it was, yeah nice beach yeah we weren't running
02:44at that point but we me and Elliot got ourselves in there, Ian was there on that day and I think
02:52I only got up to my waist, you get up to your waist and remember driving back to Ramsey
02:59and my legs were on fire like in a good way and I was like oh man I need to get my whole body in
03:05next time so we did the next day, following day and yeah felt lit, absolutely lit, best day ever
03:15and then we carried on doing it and I thought this is really tough this, I wonder how we can
03:23make it a bit easier and I found if we go running first, warm the body up and get in the water then
03:30it was a little bit easier and plus you get the endorphins from the running and you get the dopamine
03:37hit from the cold water and then if you're doing it with a mate you get your oxytocin as well so
03:42it's a good good combo and yeah no better way to start your day.
