00:16Because you and I have had this debate over the years, Danny, never for a game of this
00:19magnitude.
00:20But there are times along the way when the caps are making their cup run or the Nats
00:24are going deep into October.
00:27When you start to prioritize, I've got to enjoy this.
00:29I've got to lock in.
00:30I want to hear the calls and the broadcast.
00:33It's not just about high-fiving friends when good things happen.
00:37But you've also been waiting so long for this.
00:40You've been on those text chains with your dudes, your chicks, your friends, and now's
00:45your chance to revel in this joy together.
00:48So I wonder how people are going to take the game in.
00:50Yeah, there's no right way.
00:52Everybody's fandom is different and it's yours.
00:54Don't apologize for it.
00:55So for the Nats postseason run, for example, after you and I would do the pregame show,
01:01I would end up watching with buddies a lot, especially for the road games, the ones that
01:04were at home.
01:05Of course, you and I were at pretty much every one of those.
01:08For the Capitals, it was similar.
01:10For this, for football games are a little bit different because obviously we have to
01:13dissect so much that goes into it.
01:14I kind of need to focus and lock in more.
01:16But this is, again, a different animal in so much as it's a postseason game, right?
01:21Normally, like your week 13 tilt, I've got to be able to talk about that play in the
01:24third quarter.
01:25And I'm taking notes kind of throughout and sort of locked in in a way that's not very
01:29social.
01:30But this is to your point.
01:31This is this like shared experience.
01:33So I don't blame you if you want to go to a bar.
01:34I don't blame you if you want to have a watch party.
01:36I don't blame you.
01:37However, you want to take this in because it's so rare.
01:39It's probably the right call.
01:40Well, I also think we have to take our proclivities out of it because of what we do, right?
01:45We have to have the notes and be ready to go the next day.
01:48Although I will say, I think that a Saturday game opens up the options extensively.
01:53Like when they played Sunday night in Tampa Bay, I knew with travel and everything, getting
01:58on the plane at five in the morning and getting back here and getting into the studio, it
02:02was going to be really hard for me to rewatch the game the way that I want to.
02:05I could do a content game pretty easily and take some notes, but I was going to be able
02:08to go back and watch everything.
02:11A Saturday night game and we're not on until Monday afternoon.
02:15If I wanted to get together with people and watch, we could absolutely pull that off.
02:19I got all day Sunday to go back and do a lot of my own research and some of those things.
02:24So it actually is fortuitous in that way.
02:26If you're talking about covering the game, I mean, I guess the question first for us
02:29would be what would be your perfect way?
02:31Obviously, I'm going to be there.
02:32I'm going to Detroit.
02:33I'm excited about it.
02:34I've like so many people in this town, you know, only covered a few playoff games ever
02:40for obvious reasons, but it's one of those, right?
02:43I didn't want to miss the atmosphere.
02:44Frankly, if this game was in LA, I probably would not have made it a priority to go.
02:51Not just because of the travel, but as cool as SoFi Stadium is, it just wouldn't have
02:55been as significant a division round matchup.
02:59Even if it was in Philly, which is easy travel, so I'd like to have attended, I'm going because
03:05of the scene in Detroit, largely.
03:07I want to see my team, obviously, but I believe this is as good an atmosphere in the playoffs
03:12as we've seen in the last 20 years.
03:15These Lions fans, their obsession with this Dan Campbell operation, they've had two weeks
03:20to buy these tickets and to ramp up their energy.
03:23They'll be partying all day, morning and afternoon, long before nighttime kick tomorrow.
03:27I really believe that we overuse the word electric when it comes to atmosphere.
03:31That's what it is.
03:32I think this is going to be unlike anything we've probably seen Washington play in in
03:36a while.
03:37Yeah, it's up there with like major college football atmospheres, you know what I mean?
03:39Where it's just you're waiting around and the whole city is behind it and it's a buzz
03:45and they're galvanized, they're focused and they're starving, quite frankly.
03:49I mean, that's the extra part of it.
03:51And it's not starving with a nine and 17 that snuck in, hoping that they catch a break.
03:55You know what I mean?
03:56Those those Jim Caldwell teams that were fine, pretty decent, even that blew a lead against
04:00Dallas that had a home playoff game, you know, you know, hope they didn't even laugh.
04:04They know they've got it like they there's a confidence to it.
04:08There's a there's a you puff your chest out a little bit more.
04:10There's an energy there.
04:12That's the perfect storm, a team that hasn't done it in decades or really ever.
04:16And a team that can absolutely do it and probably should do it, to be honest with you, 800-636-1067.

04:29I I think I'm a less is more guy for these, like in terms of gatherings.
04:34So maybe my perfect ideal situation would be posting up in the basement with the big

04:39I probably invite mom and dad because I just grew up watching, falling in love with this
04:44team with my parents, probably my siblings that would want to come.
04:48I can only imagine one of them who's a big fan would make the trek.
04:52But and then maybe like brother in law, but like really diehard marks and probably keep
04:56it small, like familial and do like a, you know, 10 to 15 and in the crib more so than
05:02like a Super Bowl party, which I'm all for those, by the way, I love going to Super Bowl
05:06party that just a different atmosphere like this.
05:09This is too important.
05:10There's too much on the line.
05:11What if Washington was in the Super Bowl?
05:12Would you do this?
05:13Would you do it?
05:14That's a whole nother discussion.
05:15I don't know.
05:16I've never had to think about that.
05:17I've got a problem.
05:18I can't answer that just yet, but I mean, maybe at that point you got to go right to
05:24the Super Bowl.
05:25You got to find a way.
05:26But so your perfect situation is it's buddies without kids, which is now pretty much impossible.
05:33Oh, you know what I mean?
05:34Because when you're the guy that when you get married, says no kids, oh, 100%.
05:37But we what we what ends up happening is when you're a parent, there's no dad's watching
05:44the game.
05:45It's just it's inevitable.
05:46There's loud noises.
05:47There's distractions, whether it's your friends, kids, it's your kids.
05:50They're in the room because that's where everyone else is.
05:51There's noise.
05:52So now they're in there.
05:53Now, all of a sudden, they're playing with the Lego and now they need help with the Nintendo
05:55switch or whatever.
05:57That's to me, the best is my is a couple like minded fellas that are living and dying just
06:02like I am.
06:03I need the snide comments from the one dude that's the pessimist.
06:05I need optimistic Oliver to tell you that even though they just ran it for twenty five
06:09on two consecutive plays, the next play will go your way.

06:13I want those ingredients of for the big game, all the buddies in the room, no kids.
06:18As much as I'm generally anti biggest game of the year in a bar environment.
06:23I got to tell you, I got videos from my buddies who run a couple of places.

06:45But I get that like wanting to just be around other people and share that unbridled joy

06:57It doesn't happen a lot.
06:58Sports is one of the few things that can bring community together like that.

07:12Well, so it was harder to get everyone to go.
07:15I'm actually going and hanging out with Kelby Ted because his normal crew and our normal
07:20crew couldn't go.
07:21But we had we had a couple of groups.
07:24So we decided to go together and I'm going to get the plane tomorrow.

07:34We were buying those tickets in Tampa before leaving Tampa.

08:05And that was the whole be the same game when the caps even went, you know, came back.

08:12That was a good one to be at.

08:17So that was probably the most expensive.
08:18And then all purpose.
08:19I got three seats to all three World Series to say the World Series games.

08:27It was less than the cup, but it was I think the number in my head is fourteen hundred
08:32a game for three games.
08:34And I'm remembering like forty two hundred or something like that.

08:37Whatever the number was, I was like, I'm going to take my father to a World Series.
08:41That's what it was.
08:42I'm going to be doing that one night.
08:44I went with my parents one night.
08:46I went with I think my wife's parent or mom was a big Nats fan.
08:51And then one night was just a couple of buddies.
08:53But like we're doing this thing.
08:54Yeah.
08:55We're going to make that happen.
08:56And I have not regretted either one of those for one second now.

09:01I guess the Nats technically didn't win the game.
09:03I was at.
09:04I saw a bunch of losses, but they lost all three of those.
09:06I would I'd spend I'd spend it again tomorrow.
09:07Do you think, though, had the Caps have lost that game in that cup, would I feel differently?
09:12Probably not.
09:13I wonder where the Nats, if they lose game seven or whatever.
09:15Yeah, because that I mean, like if you pay that much and you go to Detroit and Washington
09:19loses by 13, very different than your high five and Terry McLaurin as he runs off screaming.

09:29I mean, we didn't know at the time.
09:30I mean, they'd lost game one talking about the Caps in a very in very odd fashion.

09:35It was sort of they were sloppy.
09:36It was a free for all.
09:38That was the hashtag that should have been called.
09:39What was the game winning goal?
09:40It wasn't.
09:41And then the Caps kind of were holding on for dear life in that in that game with the
09:44save.
09:45We didn't know that they were just about to steamroll that poor group from Vegas.
09:48So the fact that it was this step on a journey kind of makes it that much more profound and
09:53impactful.

10:30I've been asked a million times.
10:31So we were told this place called Vertical by a buddy in Detroit.
10:35So maybe he's setting us up to get a ambush there.
10:39But we were told that some Skins fans might be meeting there.
10:41So we're going to try to find those guys and at least the lead into the game is going to
10:45be outstanding.
10:46And obviously the way this team's been winning, you never know what's going to happen.
