The reactions among Israelis toward a ceasefire are ambiguous with many showing anger over the fact that it did not happen earlier, Jerusalem-based journalist Noga Tarnopolsky says.

00:00What was the reaction like last night when the news emerged that after all of these down-to-the-wire talks and lots of false starts and lots of perhaps misguided optimism over previous months that finally a deal had been struck?
00:15How do people respond to that?
00:16It was a very ambiguous and complicated response on the Israeli side. There's a lot of heartbreak. There is deep pain over the fact that this deal was on the table way back in May.
00:32And so many lives could have been saved in the interim, including those six hostages who were executed on September 1 or August 30, including the American, Hirsch, Goldberg, Poland, and many soldiers whose parents now in public are claiming that their children are dying in vain.
00:51These are very young conscripted soldiers who've made no choice to participate in this.
00:57There's also a lot of fear in Israel that the government will not follow through with phase two, and thus two-thirds of the remaining hostages could be relegated to an unknown future in Gaza.
01:11There's also, I would say, something between confusion and anger.
