00:10What's Rock and Soul all about then?
00:12So Rock and Soul is a crystal shop.
00:14We're based in Newport in Shropshire.
00:16We've got all sorts of different crystals for every budget.
00:20Tiny one pound tumbles up to huge statement pieces like this one.
00:27We've come up to a year now of opening.
00:29We opened last March.
00:31Fantastic.
00:32And you're a local girl, aren't you, from this way?
00:33I am a local girl, yeah.
00:35I live about a five minute walk away from the shop.
00:37So it's a nice short commute and I've grown up in Newport.
00:41It's a lovely town.
00:42It is, it's great, isn't it?
00:43Yeah, everyone's really friendly and we've noticed that as well in the shop.
00:46Everyone's been so kind and so supportive to us so we're really appreciative.
00:50So how did you get involved in the world of crystals?
00:53How did I start?
00:55I think I started off like a lot of children do.
00:58I liked the colours.
01:00I'd always sort of, you know, pick up pebbles off the beach and think,
01:03oh, is there a crystal in there?
01:05And then as I got older, I started reading into them more
01:08and finding out about their powers and what they do.
01:11And I'd sort of incorporate them into my daily life.
01:14I'd wear them quite often and I still do.
01:17And then sort of when I got to my 20s, left it a bit on the back burner.
01:22And then I think just pre-COVID, it was something that I thought,
01:27well, I found some of my old crystals and I thought, oh, should I get rid of them?
01:30And then I looked at them and I thought, these are absolutely beautiful.
01:33And it's something you never really leave.
01:36And then I got into them in a big way again and now we've got a beautiful shop.
01:40So it's right, isn't it?
01:41There are certain crystals that kind of have benefits for different things, aren't they?
01:45Just talk us through that for someone that's, you know, alien to that world.
01:49Yeah. So, I mean, I get people come in and say, no, my relationship's just broken down.
01:53I'm feeling really upset. I don't feel myself anymore.
01:56So I'd suggest Rose Quartz. It's a lovely one for self-love and harmony
01:59and sort of bringing that power back to yourself.
02:02People going into exams, wanting to memorize things and learn things.
02:06Fluorite's a beautiful one for that.
02:08And then people that can't sleep, struggle with anxiety, struggle with stress and worry.
02:13Amethyst is a lovely one for that.
02:14So it's each crystal is good for a specific ailment.
02:18Yeah. So how would you use it? Say like one for stress and anxiety.
02:22Would it be something you need to keep on you as a person, like in your pocket at all times or just in the house?
02:28Yeah, either or. So you can either keep them by your bed.
02:31So Amethyst is one I always suggest that people leave on their bedside table
02:34because it's a nice one to help their environment and to help them sleep.
02:37Fluorite, the learning crystal, it's a nice one to keep in your pocket.
02:44So if you're studying, we sell also worry stones, which have got a small indent.
02:48They're really good for worry and stressful times.
02:51They're good for rubbing.
02:53Oh, yeah, yeah. Like a, what do you call them? Like a fidget stick.
02:58Yeah, exactly that. So we do sell a lot of the smaller crystals, a lot of the tumble stone size pieces.
03:04We have people say, I will keep them in my pocket.
03:06A lot of ladies keep them in their bras.
03:08Keep close to their heart, close to them.
03:13The larger statement pieces are nice for decorative pieces to have in your space.
03:19Yeah, they just look great, don't they?
03:21And when you combine them with some nice lighting as well, like you have here, it just looks great in a room.
03:25Any particular favourite, kind of aesthetically, of yours?
03:29I always like the really dark crystals.
03:31So I love Tourmaline, I love Obsidian, so they're both black.
03:34I love Smoky Quartz.
03:36And then I also love Malachite, which is a really deep, dark green.
