00:00What's something 2024 superhero reboots, sequels, and spin-offs all have in common?
00:05They probably killed off your favorite character.
00:08Deadpool and Wolverine proved a slaughterhouse for a number of beloved MCU heroes.
00:12For example, longtime Marvel fans were thrilled to hear that Chris Evans returned to the MCU
00:17in the cameo-filled threequel.
00:19They were even more excited to learn that he'd be reprising his role as the Fantastic
00:22Four's Johnny Storm, aka the Human Torch.
00:25Unfortunately, his performance was cut short pretty quickly, having been pruned by the
00:29Time Variance Authority and sent to the void.
00:32Johnny aligns himself with a bunch of other heroes against the villainous Cassandra Nova.
00:37I've been trying to catch this little firefly for years, haven't I, Johnny?"
00:42Sadly, after meeting up with Deadpool and Wolverine, Johnny's powers are soon extinguished
00:47by Pyro before the trio is captured.
00:49After bad-mouthing Nova, Johnny is forced to face fatal consequences when the villain
00:53instantaneously removes his skin from his body.
00:56Of course, he's not the only beloved character turned casualty in Deadpool and Wolverine.
01:01We discover that Ben Affleck's Daredevil, as well as versions of the Punisher, Magneto,
01:05and Quicksilver, all perish at the hands of Cassandra Nova and her diabolical forces.
01:09Then, of course, there's Nice Paul.
01:11The lovable Wade Wilson variant who prefers kindness over quippy one-liners sadly has
01:16his head blown off by the Deadpool Corps after Deadpool uses him as a human shield.
01:20The Merc with a Mouth is unaware that his kinder variant doesn't have the same regenerative
01:24healing abilities, and so he doesn't stand a chance on the battlefield.
01:27We don't know too much about where Nice Paul comes from, but we do know that he dies a
01:31hero.
01:32Or at least, that's what Deadpool tells Wolverine before the Claude Mutant puts him in his place.
01:36Superman and Lois end his powerful third season with the arrival of Michael Cutlet's Lex Luthor.
01:42Before long, he creates his own version of the supervillain Doomsday in order to ensure
01:45that Superman stays dead and Lois Lane is punished for getting him thrown in prison.
01:50The fourth and final season opened with a continuation of the brawl between the Man
01:53of Steel and his monstrous opponent, and it ended about the same way it always does.
01:58In his very first episode back, Doomsday rips Superman's heart out and delivers it to Lex
02:02Luthor.
02:03You have something for me?
02:05The fallout from Superman's death is hard to watch, as Lois and her sons mourn their
02:09husband and father.
02:10We couldn't help but wonder if this was really it.
02:13Although Clark Kent was still appearing in flashbacks during the first few episodes of
02:16the season, it seemed as if the Man of Steel was truly gone.
02:19But after Lois' father heroically sacrifices himself by giving his heart to save Superman,
02:24Kal-El was restored to life in his fortress of solitude.
02:27Of course, even though Superman is resurrected, he's not the same.
02:30Now that he has a human heart, he has real limitations that he's never experienced before.
02:34Even so, we're glad that at least one of the deaths on this list was reversed.
02:38With a title like Venom The Last Dance, it's not hard to imagine how the titular Lethal
02:42Protector might fall in battle in the third and seemingly final outing of the Venom series.
02:47After Eddie Brock and Venom are forced on the run, the pair find themselves chased by
02:50not just the people of Earth, but those from the symbiote's homeworld as well.
02:54Null, the overlord of Klyntar, wants a codex that was created when Venom resurrected Eddie
02:59from death back in the first movie.
03:01Because of this, it will likely mean that the two will die as Null's enforcers invade
03:04the planet.
03:05Thankfully, that only proves half-true.
03:07The duo end up at Area 51, where the Xenophages attack.
03:10Realizing that the only way to save Eddie and stop Null is by destroying the codex,
03:14Venom sacrifices himself and dies in a vat of acid as Eddie is helpless to stop it.
03:19Though Eddie is eventually saved and cleared of all the charges that Venom racked up, he
03:22struggles to move on without his former symbiote life partner.
03:26To make things even more interesting, the Venom The Last Dance post-credits scene introduces
03:30a black cockroach possessed by a sample of Venom crawling out from the wreckage.
03:34This leaves us with a sliver of hope that Venom, or at least a piece of him, may still
03:38be out there.
03:392024's The Crow is a second live-action attempt at adapting the original James O'Barr graphic
03:44novel.
03:45But unlike the 1994 Brandon Lee picture, it's unlikely this one will garner a cult following.
03:50The truth is, adding The Crow to this list is sort of a cheat.
03:53Indeed, one of the prerequisites to becoming The Crow in the first place means that one
03:57has to actually die, and that's exactly what happens to Bill Skarsgård's Eric early in
04:01the film.
04:02When someone dies, a crow carries their soul to the land of the dead.
04:07But that's not all.
04:08After becoming The Crow to avenge his death and the death of his lover, Shelley, he targets
04:12her killer.
04:13While Eric does get revenge, selling the villain to the underworld and saving Shelley's soul
04:17from damnation, he does so at the cost of his own life on Earth.
04:20When Shelley is revived on the very night she died, she's told that Eric gave his life
04:24for hers.
04:25While The Crow himself is still out there in the afterlife, he's effectively dead, having
04:28sacrificed himself to save the woman he loves.
04:31It's heroic for sure, but it's just too bad that 2024's The Crow isn't nearly as good
04:35as a version that came out 30 years prior.
04:382024 saw the latest of several fairly recent Crisis on Infinite Earths adaptations with
04:43the animated trilogy Justice League Crisis on Infinite Earths.
04:46Just as in the original comic book, there were some pretty heartbreaking deaths that
04:50occur, particularly those of The Flash and Supergirl.
04:52These two famously died first in the original 1985 comic book series and remained dead for
04:57quite some time going forward.
04:59Though they each escaped their fate in the live-action Arrowverse adaptation, Justice
05:03League Crisis on Infinite Earths returns to form by killing off The Flash in Part 1 and
05:07Supergirl in Part 3.
05:09And while these were probably the biggest losses to the DC animated universe, they were
05:13far from the only ones that hurt.
05:15In fact, the whelms of the original Super Friends, the early 2000s Teen Titans animated
05:19series, and the DC animated universe are all wiped out during the Crisis event.
05:24Even the Tomorrowverse, the main continuity of the animated trilogy, is seemingly rebirthed
05:29at the very end, different than it was originally.
05:31Does this mean that these characters can't come back?
05:33Probably not, but they may never be the same again, especially considering that Justice
05:37League Crisis on Infinite Earths Part 3 features the very final lines that Kevin Conroy performed
05:42as Batman before his death in 2022.
05:45The same goes for Mark Hamill's Joker, as he retired from the role following Conroy's
05:49passing.
05:50As an honorable tribute to the past animated worlds of DC, Crisis on Infinite Earths says
05:54a final farewell we just can't ignore.
05:57Much like in Crisis on Infinite Earths, we lost a shocking number of Marvel heroes in
06:01one fell swoop in the attack on Genosha in X-Men 97.
06:05While Channing Tatum's Gambit from Deadpool and Wolverine is still safe, the attack did
06:09cost us another variant of the card-playing mutant.
06:12While he and Rogue reunited to defeat the newly-born Master Mold during the attack,
06:16Gambit ends up sacrificing himself to defeat the mutant killer and save his true love.
06:20"'Gambit, see your bet.
06:22And raise it!"
06:24Another member of the team who doesn't get the ending she deserves is Madeline Pryor.
06:28After being brainwashed by Mr. Sinister, the X-Men turn on the Jean Grey clone.
06:32She eventually moves on and builds a life for herself on Genosha as a heroic leader
06:35for her people.
06:36Unfortunately, it all ends far too soon.
06:39Although her son Cable travels from the future to warn her of her death, he's unable to prevent
06:43it.
06:44Instead, Madeline is killed in the initial shockwave of the attack, her body later found
06:48and put to rest by the survivors.
06:49And though we didn't see much of Banshee or Marrow in X-Men 97, both were once prominent
06:54members of the X-Men in the comics.
06:56Sadly, the show won't be bringing them back again, as these two are tragically vaporized
07:00in the Genosha attack when a Sentinel gets hold of them.
07:03To call the comedian a superhero may be a stretch, but considering his place in The
07:07Watchmen, we can't exactly ignore him.
07:10And while he's technically been dead since the 80s, since we're talking film and TV,
07:14we'd be remiss if we didn't mention that the character dies yet again in the recent animated
07:18feature Watchmen Chapter One.
07:20As this new adaptation of the original Alan Moore graphic novel is meant to be more accurate
07:24to the comic than ever before, that means it opens the story with Comedian's Death.
07:28Watchmen Chapter Two continues the story from Rorschach's jailbreak to the very end of the
07:32classic DC graphic novel.
07:34Just as he does in the comics, Rorschach dies as a result of sticking to the truth, and
07:38proves himself the only real hero in the story who cares about the concept.
07:41Again, Rorschach's death doesn't come as a surprise, but considering the reason behind
07:45it, it still feels pretty tragic.
07:47If the original graphic novel on the greater DC universe tells us anything, it's that his
07:51legacy will live on, and the truth about Ody Mandias' actions will eventually come
07:55to light.
07:57You probably didn't expect this list to end on a happy note, but Invincible really faked
08:01us out with this one.
08:02Although both Duplicate and Shrinking Ray are seemingly killed in the Season 2 episode
08:06This Must Come as a Shock, they are both later revealed to actually be alive.
08:09In going up against the Lizard League, Shrinking Ray is literally eaten alive, and every duplicate
08:14of Duplicate is mauled to death in combat.
08:16It's a scene meant to be shocking and provocative, and to remind us that the Lizard League is
08:20actually more of a threat than the Guardians of the Globe ever thought.
08:23The thing is, both characters are later revealed to be alive.
08:26Somehow, Ray makes it out of Komodo Dragon still breathing, though she's immediately
08:29hospitalized for her injuries.
08:31But it isn't until the season finale, I Thought You Were Stronger, that we learn that Kate
08:35survived as well.
08:36It turns out the original Kate quit superheroics to live a normal life, allowing one of her
08:40duplicates to continue on as the main Duplicate on the Guardians' roster.
08:44Realizing that she can't turn her back on the Guardians or her lover, the Immortal,
08:48she reveals that she's still alive.
08:50Although Kate and Ray were quickly thought dead, Invincible played us all along.
08:53With season 3 airing in early 2025, we're sure we're due for some heartbreaking losses
08:58in the very near future.
