00:00Tens of thousands of South Koreans rallied outside a court in the capital, Seoul, where
00:06impeached President Yoon Suk-hyo was arguing against his detention, a show of support for
00:12the leader, arrested over a failed attempt to impose martial law.
00:20But after that court decided to extend the president's arrest warrant, some of the demonstrators
00:26broke in, smashing windows and furniture. Police arrested dozens of people.
00:34The clash is the latest twist in the country's political crisis, sparked by Yoon's declaration
00:40of martial law on December 3rd that stunned South Koreans and was quickly overturned by
00:46lawmakers. They have impeached him, stripping him of his powers as president.
00:53But the decision of whether to remove Yoon from office rests with the constitutional
00:57court. Adding to his problems, Yoon is now being detained on charges of insurrection,
01:04an investigation his lawyers say is illegal. They say his actions were legitimate and taken
01:10to overcome legislative gridlock.
01:16But this is a spiraling crisis. While his brief declaration of martial law appalled
01:21many, the fallout is dividing South Korea, as Yoon's fight to get his presidential powers
01:28back goes on.
