00:00And in the context of the first day of this news mandate of U.S. President Donald Trump,
00:05we contact a special envy to Washington, D.C., Carlos Montero.
00:08Hi, Carlos.
00:09What new updates do you have for us?
00:12Oh, I have a lot of update after what you were showing us.
00:16You know, you can see Trump hasn't changed much since his first presidency.
00:22He has the same energy, the same aggressiveness and insulting people.
00:28But I want to tell you something really interesting that have happened this morning before we
00:32go to our guest, who is going to help us to understand all those executive orders you
00:37were mentioning.
00:38Today, this morning, President Trump, his wife, the vice president, Shadi Benz, they
00:45went to a religious service at the National Cathedral, and he got a big surprise.
00:53You know, those executive orders that are against the gay community, that are against
00:58the illegal immigrants, and the pastor, the lady who was preceding the service, she was
01:07in the sermon.
01:08She was really strong.
01:09She was very clear.
01:10And on Trump's face, she told her, President, I beg you to have misericordy with gay people.
01:20There are a lot of young kids who are gay, transsexual, and they are very scared.
01:27A lot of them, they are scared of their life because they don't know what's going to happen.
01:32He also, she also, the priest, the pastor, she said about immigrant, President Trump,
01:38you know, in this country, we were all immigrants.
01:43And the people, you will listen to Trump when he was saying that they came from Venezuela
01:47here, they were killed.
01:49I mean, that's all a lie, big, big lie.
01:52She told on his face, President Trump, those people are workers.
01:57They work in hospital at night.
01:59They clean our hotel rooms.
02:01They serve our food.
02:02They clean our dishes in the restaurant.
02:04Those people are not criminals.
02:06You cannot believe what Trump faced.
02:08He was really upset.
02:09They asked him about, after the service, what do you think?
02:13And he said, I think it was OK.
02:14I didn't like it much.
02:16But I mean, somebody told on Trump's face what many people think in this, in this country.
02:24Before going to our guest, I want to tell you a couple of things more than happened
02:28today.
02:29He was in a meeting tonight with the majority leader of the lower and higher chambers of
02:37the Congress.
02:38For all those executive orders, he's going to need a lot of help from the Congress.
02:43And one more thing, he has the first approval of his cabinet, Marco Rubio.
02:50He's been approved by the Congress, 99 votes he got, Democrats and Republicans approved
02:59the nomination.
03:00And he's here this morning with the vice president.
03:03But let's talk about to see how Americans are reacting to that situation.
03:07The first day completely of Donald Trump in office, he's with us, Neta Freeman.
03:14Neta Freeman, how can I describe you, a community helper?
03:18I know you are on the radio, and you are a celebrity here in Washington.
03:22I'm not a celebrity, but I'm an organizer, so I'm an organ, community organizer.
03:27But not just community, but international organizer with Pan-African Community Action
03:30and also the Black Alliance for Peace.
03:33What do you think of this first day that Donald Trump in office, the first day completely?
03:38Well, I think it shouldn't be a surprise.
03:41This is the type of disposition that this particular president and the people, the type
03:45of people he puts around himself, these are the things that they have been promising and
03:49they've been wanting.
03:51They represent the more Western white supremacist ethos that characterizes U.S. settler colonialism.
03:58That was their, that's who they appealed to.
04:00That's their base.
04:03So what we're going to see is maybe more aggressive policies, but still really not different policies
04:11than what have been implemented, but more aggressively.
04:13For example, when it comes to immigration, the numbers and all that, you could say that
04:18Democrats party deport just as many, but they'll be more, they'll be militarizing the border,
04:25they'll be sending in police, and these kind of, this is what the Trump administration
04:29will be doing.
04:30So there's aggressiveness there, but they all believe in the supremacy of, in the exceptionalism
04:36of, you know, what they call America.
04:39And what the community can do in this situation?
04:44What do you advise?
04:45I mean, people who you talk to them, what can they do?
04:48Well, this is very, this is an extremely important question.
04:51Can they do anything?
04:52Well, we can.
04:53It's not going to be easy.
04:54There's no easy road.
04:55I mean, I think we need to take our lessons from the radical traditions, and particularly
05:00even you could say the black radical tradition, and realize that the only way to avoid these
05:06types of, you know, emergence of megalomaniacs and all these types, is to actually to address
05:11the system.
05:12There has to be a radical change in the capitalist system.
05:15And that's the only way.
05:16And we also can, we don't want to do too much exceptionalizing the personality of Trump,
05:21because then we'll lose sight of the overall goal of dealing with the system as a whole
05:25that's represented by both parties, a duopoly of whites, U.S., E.U., NATO, axis of domination.
05:35Mr. Freeman, I mean, I tell you, we are in, the White House is behind us, and this Avenue
05:42Boulevard, it's called Black Lives Matter.
05:46Here it was a lot of people protesting a few years ago.
05:51How is that movement right now, and what can we expect of Donald Trump being president
05:55with the movement Black Lives Matter?
05:57That's a very interesting question.
05:59I think the movement for black, like that type of ethos, is really, was essentially
06:07a reformist movement that was focused on, and this was one of the dangers that we just
06:12spoke or talked about, but focused on personality, Donald Trump, and that now, and so when you
06:19have a Democrat coming into office, a Democratic administration, people tend to subside, and
06:24they don't talk, they don't deal with the fundamental and essential issues that sustain
06:29all the oppressive forms of oppression that we face regularly.
06:32And so right now there's nothing about that that's even emerged, and it might intensify
06:37now that Donald Trump is in power.
06:39We saw that with a lot of the demonstrations yesterday, and throughout.
06:45I mean, in a strange sort of turn of events, it may be something, that type of energizing
06:51of and activating of that base is needed.
06:55And so, you know, we're not to say things are better, but we need a strong radical response
07:00to the system.
07:01Mr. Neftan Freeman, thank you very much.
07:03Thank you for being with us in this cold evening, the weather is really cold.
07:08This is the situation we are living here in the capital, Donald Trump is going to sign
07:13more executive orders between today and tomorrow, and we are waiting to see what he has to tell
07:19us about this meeting he's having with the leader of the Congress.
07:23You know that the Congress, the Republican Party, is in power, they have the majority,
07:29and also the Supreme Court, who has most of the members of the Supreme Court are from
07:35the right wing, they are conservative.
07:36That's all for right now, I'm going back to you, to the studio.
