00:00Gotta go fast.
00:01Don't tell me you've got a catchphrase.
00:04That's right, new hedgehog. And everyone loves it.
00:07Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we're counting down the standout moments from the first three Sonic the Hedgehog movies.
00:13Don't hold back.
00:15Cause you woke up in the morning with permission to move, so I'll make it harder.
00:18Don't hold back.
00:24With Sonic, even a low-stakes fight can be a lot of fun.
00:27On the road, Tom and Sonic drop by a western bar, with the latter donning the most uncanny disguise this side of a Ninja Turtle trench coat.
00:34Howdy, partner!
00:35When a brawl erupts, Sonic might not pack the most powerful punch, but he has speed on his side.
00:41In a Quicksilver-esque sequence, Sonic moves so quickly that time essentially slows down.
00:46This allows him to play a few pranks on the bar patrons while powering down a tray of chili dogs.
00:51Oh, you've got to slow down.
00:53Once time catches up with Sonic, it makes for one of the franchise's funniest and most inventive payoffs.
00:58It's also a nice bonding moment for Tom and Sonic, leaving just one man and hedgehog standing.
01:03You got you pretty good.
01:04I'm alright. I've been hit harder.
01:10It's hard to match the energy of an animated character, especially one as speedy as Sonic.
01:15Jim Carrey is practically a live-action cartoon, though,
01:18bringing his manic vitality to Dr. Ivo Robotnik.
01:21You ever wonder what your life would have been like if you had a family?
01:24Hmm, no.
01:26Just when you thought we'd seen him at his most chaotic,
01:29Carrey kicked things into overdrive with double the Eggman.
01:32Exploring a lair, Ivo encounters a stranger with a familiar face,
01:36Gerald Robotnik, the long-lost grandfather he never knew existed.
01:40In case you couldn't figure out who's behind Gerald's makeup,
01:43the most meta of Fourth Wall Breaks makes it clear.
01:46It's as if we're two characters in a movie being played by the same actor.
01:52In addition to sharing a physical resemblance, unhinged minds also think alike.
01:57Ivo would be touched if he weren't so infuriated about the years lost,
02:01but it's never too late to catch up.
02:10One's the fastest thing alive, the other is an easy target for oncoming traffic.
02:15You wouldn't think there would be much of a connection,
02:17but when Sonic spots this turtle on the highway,
02:20he immediately escorts him to safety.
02:25Sonic doesn't stop there,
02:26helping the turtle to experience life in the fast lane like he never could.
02:30Nothing warms our hearts like seeing a smile slowly stretch across a turtle's face,
02:34even if the experience leaves the reptile shaking in his shell.
02:42Ever since his first game,
02:44protecting other animals has always been an important part of Sonic's identity.
02:48This moment, while brief, establishes his instinct to look out for the little guy,
02:52as well as his desire for companionship in a lonely world.
03:03Team Sonic meets their match in Shadow the Hedgehog.
03:06Looks aren't the only thing this hedgehog has in common with Sonic,
03:09moving in the blink of an eye.
03:11In addition to exceeding Sonic's speed,
03:13Shadow packs an even more powerful punch than Knuckles,
03:16who learns this firsthand.
03:22But can he fly like Tails?
03:23Well, he wears rocket-propelled shoes, so yeah, kinda.
03:27Even when it's three against one,
03:29Shadow has all of Team Sonic's best qualities rolled into an impressive package.
03:35Sonic isn't ready to let Shadow ride off on his motorcycle,
03:38dodging gunfire as he chases his doppelganger across Tokyo.
03:42While Sonic gives him a run for his money,
03:44Shadow escapes with an Akira bike slide and a punch that sparks a literal blackout.
03:58Sonic's carefree night is interrupted by something almost as horrifying as the movie Snow Dogs.
04:04Eggman is back, with a new look and ally.
04:06Seeking the Master Emerald and revenge for his tribe,
04:09Knuckles introduces himself to Sonic with his fist.
04:20After being dealt two property-damaging punches,
04:22Sonic prepares to show Knuckles what he's truly made of.
04:25To Sonic's shock,
04:26Knuckles demonstrates what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object.
04:31Apparently, the immovable object wins in this case,
04:34but Knuckles is outfoxed when Miles Tails' prowler comes crashing in.
04:38Although they haven't officially met,
04:40Sonic hitches a ride with Tails as they run over a rabid Eggman.
04:43This scene marks the beginning of a beautiful friendship,
04:46and a beautiful rivalry eventually turned friendship.
04:58When fans heard Shadow would play a key role in the third movie,
05:01they wondered how close the filmmakers would stick to his grim backstory.
05:04Maria Robotnik met a tragic end in the games,
05:07sending Shadow down a vengeful path.
05:09Would a PG movie take this route, however?
05:12Surprisingly, the film doesn't sugarcoat Maria's fate.
05:15The flashbacks between these two are genuinely sweet,
05:18as Maria introduces the alien hedgehog to music, movies, and friendship.
05:27When Shadow risks being taken away,
05:29Maria unfortunately gets caught in the crossfire,
05:31leaving Shadow and Gerald with nothing to live for other than revenge.
05:37As sad as this scene is,
05:39we commend the filmmakers for remaining faithful to Shadow's roots.
05:50Pursuing the Master Emerald,
05:52Knuckles and Robotnik track its location down to an underwater temple,
05:55parting the sea like Moses.
06:08The temple is right out of Indiana Jones, complete with a rolling ball.
06:12Robotnik uses a cheat code, while Sonic performs a speed run,
06:16with the enemies eventually crossing paths at the finish line.
06:19As Sonic and Knuckles engage in a colorful boss battle,
06:22it's Eggman who emerges victorious with the Emerald.
06:25The temple soon begins to flood,
06:27recreating the most stressful part of the games
06:30as Sonic and Knuckles are left to drown.
06:32After Sonic lends Knuckles a hand, the echidna returns the favor.
06:36Knuckles loses the Emerald,
06:38but he gains a friend and a lesson on what it means to be a hero.
06:55It's about taking responsibility for other people.
07:02Between Tails' arrival and the reveal of Project Shadow,
07:05the endings of these movies know how to leave audiences wanting more.
07:08The third film's mid-credits scene delivered two surprises for the price of one.
07:12Accidentally running all the way to a New York park,
07:15Sonic comes face-to-face with a metal look-alike.
07:22While Sonic can handle one robot,
07:24he rapidly finds himself outnumbered.
07:29This would have been more than enough to get us hyped for Sonic the Hedgehog 4.
07:33This ending goes the extra mile though,
07:35as a hooded hammer wielder comes to the rescue.
07:37If your theater experience was anything like ours,
07:40the audience cheered when Metal Sonic showed up,
07:42but the house completely exploded with Amy Rose's entrance.
07:47With the power of the Master Emerald,
07:49a giant robot and a legion of drones,
07:51Robotnik goes into final boss mode.
07:54Sonic, Knuckles and Tails make their last stand,
07:56with each bringing their unique skills to the equation.
08:03While the final battle allows the whole trio to shine,
08:06Sonic ultimately steals the show as he comes into possession of the seven Chaos Emeralds.
08:10Given a golden chance to win,
08:12Super Sonic turns Eggman's mech into scrap metal.
08:23This upgrade comes with other unexpected powers,
08:26such as summoning chili dogs from the heavens above.
08:28Blue or gold, you can't change Sonic.
08:31For longtime Sonic fans,
08:33this is a moment we always dreamed of seeing on the big screen,
08:36but we didn't think we'd get it until it happened.

10:07Super Sonic is confident that he can handle Shadow.
10:09Even without the Chaos Emeralds, Shadow is a formidable opponent.
10:13When he ups the ante as Super Shadow,
10:15our hero engages in the fight of his life,
10:17spanning multiple locales.
10:23Super Sonic gets the upper hand,
10:25but unlike his opponent, he isn't willing to deliver a finishing blow.
10:29With Sonic helping Shadow see the light,
10:31the two join forces to stop the Eclipse Cannon.
10:33Their team-up is set to an epic song that reminds us
