00:00The Department of Education, or DEPED, has indeed accomplished a lot this previous year
00:04under the leadership of former Senator and also has big plans for this year.
00:09What those plans are? VTV's Isaiah Menofentis reveals in this report.
00:15Under the leadership of Department of Education Secretary Sani Angara,
00:18the agency shared its accomplishment for the year 2024 along with its plans for 2025.
00:24According to the Education Secretary, hundreds of thousands are currently benefiting
00:29from the expanded career progression program alongside the implementation
00:33of President Ferdinand R. Marquez Jr.'s salary standardization program,
00:37which has resulted in an annual salary increase of 40,000 pesos for teachers.
00:42Angara also proudly highlighted their efforts to strengthen access to education, particularly
00:47through the alternative learning system, which aims to reach those who have difficulty accessing
00:52education or those who wish to return to their studies. On the issue of classroom shortages,
00:57DEPED is currently pursuing a public-private partnership for the construction of over 100,000
01:02classrooms nationwide within the term of President Marquez Jr., with the department
01:07optimistic about closing the gap or backlog in classroom shortages. In addition to these,
01:12DEPED's accomplishments also include the distribution of a full 20,000 special relief
01:17incentives for the first time to over 900,000 teaching and non-teaching personnel.
01:28Also discussed earlier was bullying, where the department is pushing for a revision
01:40of implementing rules and regulations of the anti-bullying law. This aims to improve
01:44the monitoring of bullying incidents so that schools can have more concrete policies on the matter.
01:57In a meeting with President Marquez Jr. regarding their plans for this year,
02:15the Department of Education addressed not only the classroom gap but also issues related to
02:20digitalization, which will serve as the foundation for students. DEPED continues to push its
02:26computerization program to ensure that the department keeps up with the digitalization
02:30efforts, which is also one of the mandate of the President. Angara also emphasized that despite
02:35significant budget cuts for DEPED, they will still be able to meet the country's educational needs.
02:56Meanwhile, Angara assured that the return of students to school this coming June of
03:26this year is on track. From PTV Manila, Isaiah Mirafuentes, Balitang Pampansa.
