00:00Hi guys and welcome to DriveSpark, I am Prameet and today what we are driving is the all-new
00:16Skoda Kayak.
00:19Now this is Skoda's newest sub 4 meter compact SUV and we are at Goa to drive this car and
00:26we'll be telling you everything you need to know about the all-new Kayak.
00:33So first things first, let me tell you that Skoda has already announced the pricing of
00:37this Kayak and this sub 4 meter SUV gets a starting price of Rs 7.8 lakh and it goes
00:44all the way up to the 14.4 lakh mark for the top end variant and these prices are ex-showroom.
00:51However, there are four variants that you get with this, there are seven colour options
00:56that you get with this and yeah, this is a pretty good looking car.
01:05So now let me quickly take you through the exterior of the all-new Kayak.
01:10So at the front, first of all, you can see you get very sharp edges, very sharp cuts
01:14and creases all over the body and at the front, you get your typical Skoda grille that does
01:21not have any chrome surprisingly, so there is no chrome at the front on this car.
01:25However, you get the DRLs on top, just below the DRLs, you get your headlamp housing, again,
01:31this is top line variant and this gets a full LED setup, whether it be at front or back
01:37or on the inside, everything is LED, there is no halogen on this vehicle.
01:43Pretty good thing, you have a typical big Skoda logo at the front and the hood gets
01:48a very prominent creases and it actually makes the car look way more muscular from the front
01:55end, especially with the all blacked out element and this colour that you have over here, this
02:00is the olive gold and this colour actually stands out.
02:03I think overall, with the blacked out front look and this colour combination, the car
02:09is looking pretty, pretty nice.
02:11Now, if we move to the side of the vehicle, you will notice it gets these 17-inch beautiful
02:15multi-spoke alloy wheels that look good and they are very proportionate, goes overall
02:21well with the size of the car.
02:23However, you get body cladding all over, so yeah, this kind of makes it look slightly
02:29more bulkier from the side, gives it a rugged look and if you move to the ground clearance,
02:36this car sits pretty high, it's almost 189 mm of ground clearance, it's almost 190 mm
02:43of ground clearance, but to be precise, it's 189 mm and you get body coloured ORVMs as
02:49well and they have integrated indicator, yeah, and if you see on the top, you will notice
02:54that this gets a sunroof as you can see from here and it also gets a shark fin antenna.
02:59So however, a dual tone combination would have looked really, really good with this,
03:04but overall, I mean, it's a very good looking sub 4-metre compact SUV.
03:08Now, if you move to the back, you will get a wiper along with the washer, you get a small
03:13spoiler with a LED stoplight, you don't get a Skoda logo, but what you get is Skoda written
03:20across the boot and you also get the Kylag badging on the boot and if you notice that
03:24the boot of the car is a 465-litre boot space, so that is a pretty deep boot, it can accommodate
03:30luggage for five people or maybe four people if you're going and it also has a 60-40 split
03:36just in case you want to keep some extra luggage, so you can fold either side depending on how
03:41much luggage you have or extra luggage you want to put.
03:45So yeah, that actually sums up the exterior of the Kylag.
03:49Now let us quickly move on to the inside.
03:57Now on the inside, you will notice that this gets a two-spoke steering wheel like you have
04:02been seeing on the latest Skodas as well, like we saw on the Skoda Slavia, so this also
04:07and also the Kushaq, so this gets a two-spoke steering wheel, however, I'm not a big fan
04:12of the two-spoke steering wheel, somehow it looks a little incomplete, but yeah, I mean
04:17overall the cabin is very, very nice, it's an airy cabin and especially with the sunroof,
04:23I mean, it does not feel like a sub-permeator, it is a pretty wide and an airy cabin.
04:30Now you can see you get this plastic material all over the dashboard, however, the dashboard,
04:36the fit and finish quality on the inside is pretty nice, you get some soft touch material
04:40like you get it on your armrest and over here on the door panel, but other than that, everything
04:44is finished in plastic and you can see over here, this is all plastic, but it's good quality
04:51plastic. You have some chrome on the inside and that is around the AC vents, around the
04:55gear lever, on the steering wheel, so that is the chrome you get on the inside, however,
05:01you can see you get an infotainment system that has Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and the
05:06touch is really, really sensitive and we don't have to put a lot of effort and there is no
05:12lag in this as well, it gets a single zone automatic climate control and talking about
05:18screens, it also gets one more screen, so it gets this virtual cockpit, that's a full digital
05:23instrument cluster and you can customize it a little bit according to your need, however,
05:28the steering boundary controls are very nice, they are not touch, but however, you get two
05:33rotary dials and some buttons around it, so half of it controls the infotainment system and half
05:38of it you can toggle through your instrument cluster. Now, as I was talking about the AC
05:44controls over here, so it gets the same touch panel for the AC, however, I'm again not a very
05:49big fan of this, so this touch panel, just in case if you touch any button, it will automatically,
05:55I mean, change the setting by mistake if you touch it, but yeah, it looks good, it's got a
06:00small screen and in the screen you can get the temperature for the AC, you can also see the
06:05fan speed and yeah, a lot of things. Now, this gets ventilated seats as well, the front both
06:11the seats are ventilated and you have a few buttons over here for ventilation and you have
06:16a lock and lock over here, you have a hazard and you have an automatic start-stop button right here.
06:20Now, below you get your charging units, so you get a wireless charging pad, you get two type-c's,
06:25a 12-volt charging socket, your gear lever is very nice, this is an automatic, so there is
06:30an automatic and a manual and you get a manual handbrake and a lot of storage space in the car,
06:35especially in the door, two cup holders over here and obviously, I mentioned the boot.
06:40If we talk about the seats, now, the seats are very, very nice, they get some contrast stitching
06:45as well and they are all blacked out, so I mean, yeah, it's a pretty comfortable seat that I have
06:51in and especially this armrest, so this armrest can be moved front and back depending on how the
06:56driver wants it and you can also open it and there is a storage space right underneath the armrest
07:02and obviously, you have a glove box that also has a lot of storage space as well. You get an
07:08auto-dimming IRVM on the inside, however, the passenger gets a vanity mirror but the driver
07:15does not get a vanity mirror and if you talk about the rear seating, so the rear seating,
07:21you get three adjustable headrests, one armrest, you get AC vents, type-c charging sockets and you
07:27also get a seat storage that is right behind the front two seats and you also have a place to keep
07:33your phone, so there's a phone pocket as well, which is again a very, very good thing that they
07:40have provided, however, if we talk about the space at the back, the seats are very good, they are
07:47fixed seats and they have decent under-thigh support, they have good backrest and obviously,
07:53the headrest is adjustable, so the headrest, I mean, they are little small but one can do with
07:59it, it's not something that you will be very uncomfortable with, so yeah, I mean, that's how
08:03the cabin of the all-new Kailhac looks like, it's a pretty premium cabin, I must say, especially the
08:08top-of-the-line variant that we have over here, so the amount of money that you will spend on
08:13the Kailhac, like everything is very, very premium on the interior as well.
08:22So now, let's talk about the drivetrain of the Kailhac, so we've driven the car for some time
08:27on the streets of Goa and once again, there were a lot of potholes, there were hills,
08:33there were downhills and there was a lot of traffic, obviously, it's very narrow roads around
08:38here, so what we felt is that, first of all, let me give you a quick engine brief on this, so this
08:42is powered by a 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine and it's a 999cc, it's a three-cylinder turbo
08:48petrol engine and this produces 114bhp of power and 178nm of peak torque, yeah, the torque figure
08:55is slightly higher, so that is good, on paper, the figures are pretty decent for a sub-four-metre car,
09:03it is decently powerful and you get it with two gearbox options, one is a manual, that's a
09:08six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic torque converter, now what we are driving is the automatic
09:13torque converter and let me tell you that this gearbox is a pretty quick gearbox, it's not like
09:20your regular automatic gearboxes like the AMTs, but this shifts really, really quick and yeah,
09:27there is very little amount of lag that you get between the shifts, so yeah, I mean, this is a very
09:33good gearbox, the engine, however, at idling is what I feel, since it's a three-cylinder, you have
09:39some amount of rattle that you can feel, but once you're on the move, it's a very, very smooth
09:46driving car, however, as I was talking about this two-spoke steering wheel, the steering wheel is
09:50nice, it is not very light, it's not that heavy as well, it's somewhere in between and that is how
09:55it should be, it's a very responsive steering wheel and especially with this suspension setup
09:59that this car gets, so I mean, the suspension for me, especially it was slightly on the stiffer side,
10:05keeping like this car will be a slightly performance-oriented car, so I mean, it's not
10:11that stiff as well, so I mean, if you're cruising on a highway, it will be very, very comfortable,
10:16it will absorb all the bumps and potholes, but it is slightly on the stiffer side and because of
10:22that, the handling of the car is very, very nice, stiffer suspension obviously gives you better
10:27handling, but you lose out on comfort, but this I think is a mix and match of both worlds, so yeah,
10:35suspension is good, the steering is good and because of that, the steering response is also
10:39very nice, you don't have a lot of body roll, the car does not move from side to side and overall,
10:46it is a fantastic driving car, I must say, however, if we talk about the mileage of this,
10:51so company claims that we could not do a mileage run right now, but the company claims that we'll
10:58get around close to around 19, 19.5 from both, from a manual or an automatic, now we'll be doing
11:05a mileage test later on and we'll be telling you how far is that true in the city on the highway,
11:10but as of now, the claimed mileage figure for both is around 19, 19.5 for the manual and the
11:17automatic, that's this one, the torque converter, as far as safety goes, now this gets six airbags,
11:24it gets traction control that can be switched off from the screen over here, it also gets ABS,
11:33TC as I mentioned, ABD, so and yeah, this is a five-star rated car, so they have done a crash
11:40test and this came out with flying colours, so yeah, I mean, five stars, six airbags and you
11:46have all the stability controls that you want, so I think the Kylak can be your next good choice
11:52if you're buying a sub four metre car and yeah, it's a pretty good looking car, once again,
11:58let me tell you the pricing, so the pricing starts at seven point, almost 7.8 lakh rupees
12:03ex-showroom for the base variant and it goes all the way up to the 14.4 lakh mark, again,
12:08ex-showroom price, you get four variants and seven colour options, however, I like this colour,
12:15that's the olive gold, the best, I think this colour just stands out, so yeah, guys, if you're
12:22looking for a sub four metre car in the market, you can definitely go check out the all new Skoda
12:27Kylak, it's a pretty good looking car, it's decent, the power is very decent, it's loaded
12:33with features and yeah, it definitely is an eye catcher, especially in this colour, so I hope you
12:39like this video, if you like it, please give it a thumbs up, share and subscribe to all our social
