00:00If you've ever had the Glee cast included in your Spotify rap, this video is for you.
00:08Welcome to Miss Mojo, and today we're counting down our picks for songs we'd have loved to
00:13see Glee cover.
00:1810.
00:21Waving Through a Window – Dear Evan Hansen
00:24Dear Evan Hansen was an instant smash hit and a favourite of audiences after it opened
00:29on Broadway in 2016, just one year after Glee went off the air.
00:44Similar to Glee, Dear Evan Hansen deals with a range of issues like mental health, social
00:48anxiety, and the difficulty of finding one's place in the world.
00:52Perhaps the most well-known song from the musical is Waving Through a Window, a powerful
00:56ballad sung by the titular character that absolutely would have been featured in Glee
01:01if it had only been released a little earlier.
01:11We know Blaine would have crushed this emotional song, and Darren Criss' cover of the song
01:15at ElsieFest from 2019 gives us just a glimpse of what could have been.
01:299.
01:35Thank U, Next – Ariana Grande
01:48Less of a breakup song and more of a moving-on song, Ariana Grande's Thank U, Next inspires
01:53us all to put the past behind us and look towards the future, which is a message the
01:57ladies of Glee could have easily gotten behind.
02:00During the show's run, Glee featured two covers of Ariana Grande songs, Problem and
02:05Break Free, so we already know they were partial to the artist.
02:15With the show's constant stream of romantic entanglements, Thank U, Next is an empowering,
02:20positive song that could have easily been worked into any one of Glee's seasons.
02:24It's hard to choose just one character to cover this song, so we'll just imagine it
02:27as one big group number featuring all of the talented women in the cast.
02:358.
02:38Stick Season – Noah Kahn
02:48Singer-songwriter Noah Kahn's hit single Stick Season blew up on TikTok before it was
02:52even released, and for good reason.
02:54The song is folksy and catchy with a slight melancholic energy, and there's no way Glee
03:00would have been able to resist giving this song to its resident acoustic guitar king
03:04Sam Evans.
03:16Sam was frequently given lighthearted, even silly songs to cover, like Red Solo Cup and
03:21Baby, but we would have loved to see him tackle a more serious number like Stick Season
03:26to add some more depth to his character's repertoire.
03:40It would have been a moving performance, no doubt, and one we're sad we never got to see.
03:467.
03:47Hamilton
03:59Hamilton opened off-Broadway in February of 2015, just one month before Glee aired
04:03its final episode.
04:05With such little overlap, it was unfortunately impossible for any Hamilton songs to make
04:09its way onto the show.
04:21Given Mr. Schuster's penchant for covering rap songs, though, that's a fact some Glee
04:26fans are grateful for.
04:27One number we do wish we could have seen on Glee is Burn, the emotional ballad sung by
04:31Alexander Hamilton's wife Eliza after she discovers his infidelity.
04:45Like Don't Rain on My Parade and On My Own, it's a classic Broadway showstopper that could
04:49have only been given to Rachel Berry, and we know we would have cried watching it.
04:556.
04:56Espresso
04:58Former Disney Channel star Sabrina Carpenter has been taking the music world by storm since
05:12her song Feather hit No. 1 on the U.S. pop charts.
05:15It was her 2024 hit Espresso, however, that took her career to new heights.
05:30This artist's soprano vocals and flirty style remind us of a certain other blonde, Quinn
05:35Fabray.
05:36Imagine Quinn taking the lead on a cover of Espresso, supported by Santana and Brittany,
05:41with all of the fun choreography and costuming of a big Glee group number.
05:46The song would be a perfect hit for the self-confidence-poised, cheerleading trio known to fans as the Unholy
05:52Trinity.
05:535.
05:54Red Wine Supernova, Chapel Rhone
06:13During the series' run, there was a distinct lack of openly lesbian pop artists.
06:18But that's changed since Chapel Rhone's meteoric rise to fame over the past year.
06:23Red Wine Supernova is a fun, energetic song that proudly expresses the artist's sexuality,
06:29and it's a shame we never had the opportunity to see Santana and Brittany take on the song.
06:33Their relationship was one of the most beloved of the entire series, and was one of the very
06:37few lesbian relationships portrayed in popular media at the time.
06:50Though it's difficult to choose just one Chapel Rhone song that could have been on Glee, Red
06:54Wine Supernova's fun, flirty lyrics would have made for the perfect Britannia duet.
07:054.
07:09What About Us, Pink
07:18The Glee cast covered six Pink songs during the show's run, but they never had the chance
07:22to take on her 2017 hit, What About Us.
07:25The song's lyrics discuss standing up for the underrepresented and staying strong in
07:29the face of adversity, which aligns closely with major overarching themes of Glee.
07:33With its show-stopping vocals and massive popularity, this song would have more than
07:37likely become a beloved cover from the show.
07:48Perhaps it could have been part of a set list for a big competition like regionals or nationals,
07:52featured prominently at a big emotional and climactic moment in the series.
07:573.
07:58Driver's License, Olivia Rodrigo
08:13Former Disney star Olivia Rodrigo became a pop sensation overnight with the release of
08:17her 2021 single, Driver's License, an emotional ballad that mourns the end of a relationship.
08:22Who better from the Glee cast to cover this immensely popular, beautifully vocalized song
08:27than the undisputed queen of ballads, Rachel Berry?
08:41In early seasons, Rachel often dealt with feelings of inadequacy, especially around
08:44Quinn, regarding her relationship with Finn.
08:47This directly mirrors the lyrics of Driver's License, and if the song had been released
08:50a decade earlier, we would have undoubtedly have seen Rachel singing it, probably with
08:55a single tear rolling down her cheek.
09:092.
09:13Flowers – Miley Cyrus
09:27The path since leaving Disney stardom hasn't always been an easy one for Miley Cyrus, but
09:31music has seemed to remain an outlet for the singer.
09:34This was made particularly clear with the release of her empowering 2023 single, Flowers.
09:45The quality of her voice and pop-rock-inspired stylings remind us of none other than Santana,
09:50who would have crushed a cover of this song if she'd had the chance.
09:54The character's guarded, prickly exterior allowed for some incredibly moving moments
09:58when presented with the opportunity to show more emotion, which this song definitely would
10:02have allowed for.
10:281.
10:29Taylor Swift
10:41Only two Taylor Swift songs were ever covered on Glee, Mine and Mean, which we consider
10:45to be a huge missed opportunity.
10:57Since the show has gone off the air, Taylor Swift has only grown exponentially in popularity,
11:02especially after re-releasing her albums.
11:04All Too Well had a massive resurgence following her album Red, Taylor's version, and it's
11:09considered one of Swift's most powerful songs.
11:22The fact it was released before Glee ended makes it all the more painful that we never
11:25got to see a Glee-cast version of this iconic song, which we know would have absolutely
11:31slayed.
11:32Let us know in the comments what songs you wish Glee could have covered, or which ones
11:36you're grateful they didn't.
