00:00The Department of Labor and Employment, DOLE has confirmed that there are programs that can be done for those affected by Artificial Intelligence.

00:15In 2022, the writer and digital worker Vilma Estrallata will start using Artificial Intelligence in writing articles.

00:25According to her, she is asked to write about two articles a day.

00:29It has reached the point where she is asked to write 20 articles in a week.

00:35Because of this, it seems that the quality of the articles she is going to write is decreasing.

00:40Just last year, there was a cancellation of the company she used to work for.

00:45For her, the cancellation of her work is not an isolated case.

00:50We are really worried about our work because we feel that it is over.

00:57Vilma is one of the workers from the digital industry in the country who is affected by the cancellation of companies due to the emergence of new technologies such as AI.

01:08According to the study of the International Monetary Fund,

01:1236% of jobs in the Philippines are highly exposed to AI.

01:18The Department of Labor and Employment said that the emergence of new technologies cannot be avoided.

01:24According to them, there are programs laid out by the government to protect the workers from the effects of technological advancement.

01:33What is related to policy and legislative frameworks is in place.

01:38The Philippine Development Plan 2023-2028,

01:42one of the things emphasized in this plan is the importance of AI-responsive workforce and globally competitive industries.

01:50The mechanisms are also in place to help.

01:54The bottom line is that we really need to upscale and retool our workers in collaboration with industries that can be affected.

02:03Kalihim also said that it is not only the Philippines that is affected.

02:07Despite the projection that 72 million jobs in the world will be lost due to AI,

02:13there are about 170 million jobs that can be lost.

02:18Some of the laws that can help is the Philippine Digital Workforce Competitiveness Act

02:23that can prepare workers through lifelong learning and digital skills training,

02:28where Dole Atesda is focused.

02:31The government is also advancing strategies through the National Innovation Council,

02:37where it is led by NEDA and the President presides over the assistance.

02:42Aside from these, some of the laws that can regulate the use of AI are now in the hands of Congress.

02:51Like the House Bill 9448 of Quezon City First District Representative Arjo Atayde

02:56that prohibits the use of AI and automation technology to replace workers.

03:02And House Bill 7913 and House Bill 7983

03:07were passed by Quezon Province Fourth District Representative Keith Micah Tan

03:12that stipulates that there should be an AI Bill of Rights

03:15to protect workers from unsafe and unsafe use of AI.

03:21The groups believe that workers and the public need and need to discuss

03:27the use of AI in workplaces

03:30and for stakeholders to build strategies, policies, and resolutions

03:36that protect the rights and interests of workers and other sectors.
