00:00How'd you make it look so easy?"
00:03Fine, don't tell me.
00:05Welcome to Ms. Mojo, and today we're looking at how Georgie Cooper has changed since his introduction on Young Sheldon.
00:12Hello Georgie. It's just George now.
00:16The oldest child in the Cooper family, Georgie starts off as your average teenage boy.
00:21Actor Montana Jordan says that he related to the character as they both come from Texas, played football, and had messy rooms growing up.
00:29Georgie's into sports and can't stop thinking about girls.
00:33I'm just saying I'm better suited to the single life.
00:35How do you picture that?
00:37Okay, well you know the buffet at Golden Corral where there's all kinds of choices and you can have as much as you want?
00:42Yeah?
00:43It'll be like that, only with hot girls.
00:47Georgie, I'll bet you $1,000 you're married before you're 25.
00:51You gotta bet.
00:53However, as the show goes on, Georgie takes on various jobs and learns responsibility along the way.
01:00Georgie isn't considered a good student, especially compared to his younger brother Sheldon.
01:05Every member of his family, from his dad, to his sister, to his own grandmother put him down for his supposed lack of intelligence.
01:13What are you doing?
01:14Separating the whites from the colors.
01:16Whoa, that's racist.
01:19How did I get a rocket scientist for one son and a rodeo clown for the other?
01:23In school, his priorities are focused more on girls than on academics.
01:27He tries to win over his crush Veronica, but she doesn't feel the same way about him.
01:35She likes him as a friend, though later, she does develop feelings for him.
01:39By then, Georgie moved on.
01:41Hi.
01:42Hi.
01:45So, can I get you all started with some drinks?
01:48I'm good with water.
01:50Water sounds great.
01:51Refreshing.
01:52While academics isn't his strong suit, that doesn't mean Georgie is lazy or undisciplined.
01:57He's into making money, taking initiative with a variety of jobs.
02:01His employers are impressed with his natural talent.
02:04He also starts various side hustles, such as selling candy at school and the answer sheets to Sheldon's old tests.
02:12Although these don't always work out as planned, he bounces back from failures and learns valuable
02:17skills to apply to future business ventures.
02:20In addition to the wealth that comes from his business endeavors, he appreciates the
02:24sense of independence it gives him.
02:26What can I say?
02:27I'm entrepreneurialistic.
02:29Is that a word?
02:30I don't know.
02:31But if you got a lot of money, you get to make stuff up.
02:33When he realizes he's no longer good at sports, he decides to work after school with the idea
02:39that making money is more his talent.
02:41This puts him at odds with his father, George Sr., who wants him to stay on the football team.
02:46You ordered something from the Mountain View Candy Company?
02:49Oh yeah, thanks.
02:50What the hell is it?
02:52A big ol' box of candy.
02:55As his skills as a salesman develop, Georgie decides to drop out of school.
02:59No one in Georgie's life approves of his decision.
03:02You go back to school?
03:03No.
03:04Well, it sounds like you don't live here.
03:06He's our son.
03:07We are not kicking him out.
03:08He wants to be an adult.
03:09He can pay for his own place.
03:10That was my plan?
03:11His girlfriend Jana breaks up with him, and his father kicks him out of the house.
03:15However, Georgie works out a deal with his family where he can live in the garage.
03:20Though things get rocky for Georgie, he proves resilient in the end.
03:24I'm thinking I'll put the flag over that window for, you know, privacy.
03:27If you want, I could sew some curtains, make it look homey.
03:31Nice.
03:32Girls will eat that up.
03:33Flag is fine.
03:35While he didn't have a stellar academic record, he did have promising traits for a salesman.
03:40He knew how to read people and win them over.
03:43Despite not being a promising student, Georgie proved to be a success later in life.
03:48We find out in The Big Bang Theory that he owned three tire shops.
03:52Your brother is Dr. Tire?
03:54Yes.
03:55And apparently it only takes half a semester of community college to get that particular doctorate.
04:00We passed three of these stores on the way here.
04:03Why did you say he's just some loser who sells tires?
04:06You're right.
04:07That was unfair.
04:08He's a loser who sells more tires than anyone in Texas.
04:11As millennials and Gen Z could tell you, getting more education doesn't guarantee success.
04:17Georgie's business acumen is on display in Young Sheldon, as he helps his mema run an
04:22illegal gambling room and implements ideas that sidestep problems with operating such
04:27an establishment.
04:28If it wasn't for me, none of this would be happening.
04:30I'm your grandmother.
04:32If it weren't for me, you wouldn't be happening.
04:34How about this?
04:35No hourly wage, just a cut.
04:38What kind of cut you thinking?
04:39Five percent.
04:40Given their differences, it shouldn't be surprising that Georgie doesn't get along with Sheldon.
04:45We haven't talked in over ten years.
04:47Now that you need something, you think you can just show up at my store?
04:50Well, let's just drop everything to accommodate Sheldon.
04:53He often picks on his kid brother.
04:55However, Georgie occasionally gives Sheldon advice on how to deal with his problems, though
05:00it's usually advice on how to be more corrupt.
05:03In the Big Bang Theory episode, The Sibling Realignment, it is revealed that the two had
05:08a falling out.
05:09This is because Georgie became resentful of Sheldon, as he had to grow up quickly and
05:13take care of the family while Sheldon was a giant hindrance with his selfishness.
05:17Mom was a miss.
05:19Missy was a dumb teenager.
05:20I had to look after both of them.
05:22I talked to Mom all the time.
05:24If she was upset, she would have told me.
05:26She was protecting you, you idiot, just like everyone always does.
05:30If things were bad, then why didn't you tell me?
05:34Because I was protecting you, too.
05:36Georgie had a more positive relationship with Missy.
05:39He gives her helpful advice and is protective, no doubt finding more common ground with her
05:44over her genius twin brother.
05:46So you're trying to go on a secret date?
05:48Kinda.
05:49I don't know how I feel about this.
05:51Come on, it's just a movie.
05:53Have you been out with him before?
05:54Never alone.
05:55How old is this boy?
05:56Thirteen.
05:57Do his parents know about it?
05:58What are you, Mom now?
05:59You're my sister.
06:00You and boys is weird.
06:01However, Missy is still dismissive of Georgie and insults him frequently, but that's par
06:07for the course in the Cooper family.
06:09While running a laundromat that was a front for the casino, Georgie runs into a young
06:13woman named Mandy.
06:15The two begin dating, but Georgie keeps an important secret from her that he's 17 years
06:21old.
06:22So what other secrets are you hiding from me?
06:24You got a wife and kids?
06:26No.
06:30But I'm not really 21, I'm 17.
06:40What?
06:40Upon finding out how much younger Georgie is, Mandy decides to break up with him.
06:45However, things get complicated when it turns out that Georgie got Mandy pregnant, and her
06:51mother decided to disown her.
06:52Can we talk?
06:54We better.
06:55What's going on?
06:58I'm pregnant.
06:59With no place to go, Mandy stays with Georgie's Meemaw, allowing him to slowly win her over
07:04with his charm and his good character.
07:07After the birth of their daughter, Georgie decides to become a responsible family man.
07:12What happened?
07:13Nothing.
07:14I just wanted to be here.
07:17Really?
07:19Yeah.
07:21That's what we wanted, too.
07:24In early seasons, Georgie came off as thoughtless, disorganized, and having a penchant for delinquent
07:30behavior.
07:31Georgie, freshman year, that's a big deal.
07:34How can I be excited when he's gonna be in the same grade as me?
07:37Don't worry, Georgie, I'm not planning on being in the ninth grade for very long.
07:41Even then, he had a compassionate side to him, such as the concern he showed for his
07:46dad after George had a heart attack.
07:48He's also sensitive about not being as academically gifted as Sheldon.
07:52This is something that is awkwardly put front and center at the beginning of the show, when
07:57both enter the ninth grade despite Sheldon being five years younger.
08:01You mean Sheldon?
08:05You can't let that bother you.
08:07It doesn't bother you?
08:08He got called to the principal's office.
08:10Yeah, that wasn't so great.
08:12I can't be in the same school as him.
08:14Well, I don't see what choice you have.
08:16Right.
08:18Georgie tries to come off as happy-go-lucky as if nothing phases him, but he clearly carries
08:24baggage over the obstacles he has to overcome in his journey to adulthood.

08:43Georgie was one of the most well-rounded characters in the show, proving to be a breakout character
08:49as he matured and became more likable.
08:51After Young Sheldon was canceled in the spring of 2024, a spinoff show debuted in the fall
08:57called Georgie and Mandy's First Marriage, which continues telling the story of Georgie's
09:01struggles.
09:02You just lost your dad.
09:04You got a brand new baby.
09:06Your sister's struggling.
09:07An unemployed wife.
09:08You got no money.
09:09Okay, okay.
09:12And my mom.
09:15Put it that way, it's a miracle I'm still alive.
