00:00The Agriculture Department is now suing a company involved in smuggling and hoarding of agri-products in the country.
00:08The center of the news is from Allan Francisco.
00:13The Department of Agriculture has already filed a case after falling victim to Anti-Agricultural Economic Sabotage or Republic Act No. 12022.
00:24The purpose of this law is to impose a heavier punishment against smugglers and hoarders of agri-products in the country, including the cartel.
00:35In the program Mike Abilive, Agriculture Assistant Secretary Spokesperson Arnel Demesa said,
00:41even though it cannot be announced for now, but they have already denied the name of the company.
00:49We will announce it and our President will be prosecuted for smuggling, profiteering, and hoarding.
00:58The proposed law is just one of the steps of the government to ensure food security or enough food for Filipinos.
01:06Aside from this law, Republic Act No. 12078 or the law that amends the Rice Tarification Law is also included.
01:16It is stated here that the Department of Agriculture has the power to declare a food security emergency on rice
01:23due to a lack of supply or an extraordinary increase in its price.
01:28We don't have a problem with the supply. Our supply is good even though the local production is decreasing.
01:32We have a lot of imported rice.
01:35When it comes to the price, we know that our government and our President have made a lot of interventions.
01:46Despite this, there are still some wholesale retailers whose prices are still rising.
01:54That is why the National Price Coordinating Council recommended to the DA that there should be a food security emergency
02:01so that the price of rice can really go down.
02:04Second, the stocks of NFA should be released so that it can be bought again.
02:13If there is rice, it can be imported to the market.
02:17Meanwhile, another thing the government is doing according to ASEC-Demesa
02:21is to implement the maximum suggested retail price for imported rice.
02:26For now, this is only for Metro Manila.
02:29But once they have secured the process, there will also be MSRP for other types of rice and outside the National Capital Region.
02:39This is for the imported premium rice.
02:43This is the 5% broken.
02:46This started when we announced last week at Php 58.
02:52We expect that it will remain at Php 550 or lower.
02:58Php 550 per metric tons is the 5% imported rice.
03:04It can still go down to Php 49 as announced by Secretary Kiko Chu Laurel, Jr.
03:11We will have a two-week regular periodic review.
03:17According to the calculation, it can still go down to Php 49.
