There some rules you never break in Hollywood. One of them is to not talk thrash about an employer or co-star just after you've worked with them. It's just bad form, and it could potentially destroy your career. That's just what happened to Katherine Heigl who trashed the comedy flick Knocked Up in which she played a lead role.

00:00In March 2019, Katharine Heigl made headlines when she was cast as the lead in a new CBS
00:05comedy Our House.
00:07According to Variety, this is the first time the actress has been cast in a television
00:10comedy.
00:11But more than 10 years ago, Heigl actually made many, many more headlines because of
00:15her comments about her role in a big-screen comedy, comments that, at the time, seemed
00:18like they'd ruined her career overnight.
00:20Oh, get out!"
00:22She was riding high back in 2007.
00:24The former Grey's Anatomy star not only won an Emmy Award for Best Supporting Actress
00:28in a Drama Series that year, she also began transitioning over to the big screen with
00:32her successful starring turn in Judd Apatow's Knocked Up, opposite Seth Rogen.
00:36Unfortunately, this movie star-in-the-making's rise to the top quickly unraveled following
00:40an infamously ill-fated interview with Vanity Fair the following January.
00:43In a move that still has us scratching our hands, Heigl openly trashed her own work in
00:47the coveted cover story, saying,
00:49"'It was a little sexist.
00:50It paints the women as shrews, as humorless and uptight, and it paints the men as lovable,
00:55goofy, fun-loving guys.
00:56It exaggerated the characters, and I had a hard time with it on some days.
01:00I'm playing such a b----.
01:01Why is she being such a killjoy?
01:02Why is this how you're portraying women?
01:0498% of the time it was an amazing experience, but it was hard for me to love the movie."
01:09Given the beloved flick's undeniable success with audiences and critics, Heigl's candid
01:12comments sparked immediate backlash.
01:14For their part, Apatow and Rogen both chimed in on the matter during a joint interview
01:18on The Howard Stern Show in 2009.
01:20The fan-favorite writer-director admitted that he was confused over Heigl's comments,
01:24saying,
01:25Seth always says,
01:33Meanwhile, Rogen felt Heigl's criticisms were hypocritical, considering the portrayal of
01:37women in her follow-up rom-com, The Ugly Truth.
01:39"'You have to be two people.
01:41The saint and the sinner.
01:43The librarian and the stripper.'"
01:45Soon after proving her A-lister clout between Knocked Up and Grey's Anatomy, Heigl also
01:49began to burn bridges in TV land after shockingly withdrawing her name from Emmy contention
01:53in 2008.
01:55The actress released a statement at the time, saying,
02:06Understandably, Grey's showrunner Shonda Rhimes was insulted by Heigl's remarks, and later
02:10said in an interview with Oprah Winfrey,
02:12"'On some level it stung and on some level I was not surprised.'"
02:16"'You weren't?'
02:17"'No.'
02:18"'Okay.'
02:19"'When people show you who they are, believe them.'"
02:20Meanwhile, Heigl and Seth Rogen have since appeared to end their alleged feud.
02:23During an interview with Howard Stern in August 2016, the comedy actor looked back
02:27fondly on his experience working with Heigl, saying,
02:29"'As we were making the movie, honestly, I was like, I would make a dozen movies with
02:33her.
02:34I was having a really good time.
02:35And then when I heard afterward that she didn't like it, that she seemed to not like the process,
02:38and she did not like the end product either, I think when that happens, your trust feels
02:42somewhat betrayed.'"
02:43However, Rogen's compassion for his former co-star's subsequent plight has seemingly grown
02:47over the years, as he continued,
02:49"'I respect the fact that perhaps she realizes it has hurt her career, and I don't want that
02:53to have happened to her at all.'"
02:54Heigl has since expressed regret for saying anything at all in that fateful Vanity Fair
02:58spread.
02:59In fact, Heigl told Howard Stern in 2016 that she went to therapy to deal with the stress
03:03of her, quote, "'difficult' reputation."
03:05She later responded to Rogen's kind remarks while speaking with The Hollywood Reporter,
03:09saying,
03:10"'I think that he's handled that so beautifully, and I just feel nothing but love and respect.
03:13And it was so long ago at this point, I just wish him so much goodness, and I felt that
03:16from him too.'"
03:17Well, if Heigl and Rogen can bury the hatchet, perhaps there's still hope for her reputation
03:21in Tinseltown.
03:22But for now, we'll have to wait and see.
