00:00The two welders were killed after they were trapped in a burning ship that they were composing in Navotas.
00:07According to the firefighters, there was a fire inside the ship so the victims were not able to escape immediately.
00:12This is the news of James Agustin.
00:18This shipyard was hit by a heavy fire in the barangay of San Jose, Navotas City, last night at 9 p.m.
00:23The first alarm was raised by the Bureau of Fire Protection.
00:27Three firetrucks responded, as well as the fire volunteer groups.
00:31According to the BFP, the storage roof was burned, which is located on the upper part of the balance of the ship being assembled.
00:37When they entered, the roof was confined.
00:41It means that it was inside and the water and the windows were limited.
00:48That's why it was difficult for the firefighters to enter.
00:52There were 20 to 25 workers who were working on different parts of the ship when the incident happened.
00:59Two of their colleagues were not allowed to enter.
01:02The two welders' bodies were found in the storage roof.
01:05They still tried to get the two victims out and revive them, but they were all caught, so they were both killed.
01:16Authorities are investigating the two victims who were welding in the storage room.
01:22There were also life vests and life jackets.
01:25It's highly likely that the fire came from the welding, of course.
01:28But the question is, how fast did the fire spread and how quickly did the victims escape?
01:36The ship is very tight, especially in that portion.
01:39There's only one entrance and one exit, which is small.
01:44This is what you can see, the big manholes.
01:46It was past 2 p.m. on that early morning before the fire was completely extinguished.
01:52The BFP also found out that the fire safety code was violated by the contractor.
01:56James Agustin is reporting for JMA Integrated News.
