Rescue of a Dolphin Stranded in the Lagoon of Lignano (UD). A daring rescue operation was carried out on January 6, 2025, by two teams of Italian firefighters from the Lignano detachment (UD).
The firefighters reached the stranded dolphin using a boat and carefully placed it on a floating stretcher. After thorough medical examinations under the watchful eye of veterinarians, the dolphin was transported by boat to deeper waters. Once released, the dolphin swam away freely.
This successful rescue was a collaborative effort involving veterinarians and staff from the WWF Marine Protected Area of Miramare (TS), the Department of Comparative Biomedicine and Nutrition at the University of Padua, the DelTA Association (Dolphins and Turtles of the Upper Adriatic), the Shoreline Research Cooperative of Padriciano (TS), and the Morigenos Association of Slovenia.
