The driver of a 4x4 that ploughed into a primary school killing two eight-year-old girls has been rearrested after bereaved families criticised the police investigation into the tragedy. Nuria Sajjad and Selena Lau, both eight, died in the incident at the Study Prep School in Wimbledon, south-west London, in July 2023 while celebrating the last day of the summer term. The police said that following concerns raised by the girls' families, it had carried out its own review of the case and found lines of inquiry that "required further examination". In June last year, the Metropolitan Police said the driver had suffered an epileptic seizure and would face no criminal charges.

00:00My name is Detective Superintendent Lewis Spaceford and I'm here today to give you an update into the investigation in the fatal Wimbledon collision in 2023, in which sadly two young girls lost their lives.
00:13In October last year, a review by a specialist crime review group identified new lines of inquiry for this investigation which required further examination.
00:23I have been leading a team who has been working diligently through those lines of inquiry and as a result we have today further arrested the driver on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
00:35The 48-year-old woman is currently in custody at a London police station.
00:40I know this development will raise questions but you will understand why we cannot go into further details whilst this remains a live investigation.
00:50What I would like to do today is to issue a direct appeal for information.
00:55A significant number of individuals were identified and spoken to as part of the original investigation but our further lines of inquiry have identified that there may be witnesses and people with information that could assist the investigation who have not yet been spoken to by police.
01:14Were you at the golf club that day or nearby? If you were and you have not yet spoken to police, do come forward.
01:25My priority is to ensure all lines of inquiry are fully progressed in this investigation and this appeal is part of that work.
01:34I would ask that anyone with information which could assist calls the Major Investigation Room on 0207 175 0793. Thank you very much.
