Transcript
00:00A new rooftop restaurant in Leeds, a redevelopment of a shopping centre in Bristol, and news
00:07of how an investment was paid off for a music studio in Stockport.
00:11That's all coming up in today's Business Briefing, sponsored by Surebook.
00:20My name is Lawrence Gleganon.
00:21And I'm Robin Hewson.
00:22Well, morning, Robin.
00:23Good morning.
00:24Perhaps we can start with news from God's own county.
00:27Hello.
00:28You're always keen on news from, well, particularly Sheffield, but this is Leeds.
00:32So there's an exciting new sort of restaurant.
00:34Yeah.
00:35And I went to uni in Leeds.
00:36So there's always a little connection there as well.
00:37Same here.
00:38So we can reminisce.
00:39Oh, brilliant.
00:40Yeah.
00:41Well, I mean, it's changed a lot since our uni days, I imagine.
00:43But the latest development is Sovereign Square.
00:46And it's had a hotel that's been set to open there.
00:48And the latest addition is a Latin American restaurant as well.
00:51Lovely.
00:52So Azatea is going to be taking influencers from 33 countries across South America.
00:57So it sounds really exciting.
00:58They've got everything from Mexico to Brazil and everywhere in between, really.
01:01It sounds very exciting.
01:02Yeah, a great addition.
01:03I mean, City Centre, I did used to go there, but it's changed so dramatically when I see
01:08pictures from, well, the 90s.
01:11So it's no surprise, really, as it's 30 years ago.
01:13But yeah, the changes have been superb because perhaps people were more drawn to the suburbs
01:18back in those days.
01:19But there's so much to go on in the City Centre now.
01:21Yeah, I think it really is coming alive.
01:22I think I've been back a few times for the UK Reef Conference.
01:25Oh, yes.
01:27So even just going a few years after I left uni, you can see the difference in the City
01:29Centre now.
01:30There's Wellington Place, there's a lot of development around there as well.
01:33And you can't beat a new rooftop restaurant.
01:35Exactly, yeah.
01:36So where is that?
01:37It's up in Skirts, where?
01:38Near the station, I believe.
01:39Yeah.
01:40Okay.
01:41So yeah, very central.
01:42And it's also got Hyatt Place and Hyatt House opening the hotels.
01:46And they're delivering over 200 rooms.
01:47So some are for people to stay and some are for people to eat.
01:50Fantastic.
01:51So it's lovely for the Leeds tourists.
01:52Sounds really good.
01:53So sticking with investment, news today about a new development in Bristol, where the Gallery
02:00Shopping Centre has been lined up to be demolished.
02:04And if that's approved, it will make way for a mixed-use development featuring student
02:09accommodation-led.
02:10I mean, often that's the case, isn't it?
02:12When people put forward these plans, student accommodation is key.
02:15And of course, Bristol's got a huge student population, or often it's built to rent or
02:20a combination of the two.
02:21But this is a student accommodation-led scheme.
02:25But there are also going to be space for leisure uses, including potentially a nightclub.
02:29Oh, wow.
02:30Well, that'll go down well with the students.
02:31Yes, it will.
02:32Absolutely superb.
02:33A nightclub in the bottom of the building, that'll be good.
02:36Very risky as well.
02:38Anyhow, you've apparently got news from the North West about a music studio.
02:42Absolutely, yeah.
02:43So it's South City Studios, which is the only pre-production room available in the North
02:48of England for music artists.
02:50And they were one of the first, I believe, to get some of the MPIFF funding, so Northern
02:53Powerhouse Investment Fund.
02:55Great.
02:56So this is one that they've had the funding and it's paid off, so to speak.
02:59Yeah, I think they're a great success story, really, for this funding.
03:02So it's allowed them to actually double the size of their facility over in Stockport.
03:07And they're now servicing loads of really big music artists.
03:10Any names for us, Robbie?
03:11Yes.
03:12Well, you'll know Johnny Marr.
03:13Oh, yes.
03:14Fantastic.
03:15From the Smiths.
03:16Yeah.
03:17And the Kaiser Chiefs, Sam Smith and Elbow.
03:18Right.
03:19Yeah.
03:20That is great names.
03:21Over in Stockport.
03:22I imagine when you're an up-and-coming artist, you'd like to know who's been there before
03:24and those names really do sort of roll off the tongue.
03:27Absolutely.
03:28Yeah.
03:29So really exciting for South City Studios.
03:30And I think Stockport's got quite a music legacy going on anyway.
03:33It has.
03:34In fact, didn't you see Blossoms when they were supporting Rick Astley?
03:37I did, yeah.
03:38Covering Smith's songs.
03:39Absolutely.
03:40Yeah, over at Glastonbury.
03:41So yeah, Stockport all the way over there was fantastic to see.
03:45Good stuff.
03:46Well, we've got news of the Bank of Ireland UK is investing £100 million in its operations
03:51over the next three years.
03:53That's been announced at the same time as they're celebrating their 200th anniversary
03:56in Northern Ireland.
03:57Wow.
03:58And the investment is going to go in their sort of everyday banking and into also their
04:01lending, mortgage and broker offerings.
04:04So a very exciting investment over in Northern Ireland.
