00:00These commuters will soon need to find a new car park.
00:06Preparation work gets underway this week to convert the Queen's Gardens car park into
00:11the East Perth Primary School.
00:13This will be a world class primary school and is due for completion by 2029.
00:19But just how soon the free car park will close has proven a source of confusion, with Education
00:24Minister Tony Booty initially saying it would close entirely this week.
00:28There's not a lot of warning, where are they going to go?
00:32Well if you look at it, it's not that full actually.
00:34Well we need to build this.
00:37The Premier then stepped in to clarify only some bays will close this week, with the entire
00:42car park to shut later in the year.
00:45The vast majority of this site will be available until October.
00:49The 500 bay car park has been at the centre of an ongoing feud between the State Government
00:54and Perth Lord Mayor Basil Zemplis, who is also the Liberal candidate for Churchlands.
00:59He claims the Government's $4 million offer to compensate for lost parking revenue falls
01:04short.
01:05Liberal leader Libby Metham says she supports the new school, but isn't saying whether her
01:10party would fork out more in compensation.
01:14We will sit down with the City of Perth in Government and negotiate in good faith.
01:19The Liberal's latest election pitch, $5,000 grants for toy libraries across the state.
01:25Toy libraries are a vital asset, particularly during a cost of living crisis for families
01:31right across Western Australia.
01:33Cost of living is the number one issue for WA voters, despite the state's economy continuing
01:38to outperform the rest of the country.
