00:00Hi, my name's Jack Marshall. I'm the food and drink reporter for the Metro Group and
00:05welcome to our latest food review. Now, recently I got an email from Costa letting me know
00:10about they've got, you know, a pretty heady raft of new products coming through early
00:14in 2025, just as people are getting into January and people are starting to think, right, I'm
00:19going to loosen it up a bit on the older New Year's resolutions. I'm going to give myself
00:23a treat. I'm going to head down to Costa, grab something from the menu there. They've
00:26come out with a raft of new things on the menu for us to try. Now, the main three things
00:29I turned up recently to the local Costa branch to try were the Spanish latte, which has
00:35caused a bit of a stir. I mean, it's certainly divided opinion. The all-day breakfast toasty
00:40and some of their iced gingerbread biscuits. Now, I went down to my local Costa branch
00:45and grabbed these three items and so I thought I'd report back to you and let you know what
00:49I thought of it all. Now, I'll start with the all-day breakfast toasty. It was fine.
00:54It was, it was the kind of toasty which you're just going to expect from a place like Costa
00:57or one of the chain, chain kind of coffee places. Obviously, it wasn't going to be like
01:03crazy, unbelievable quality when it comes to things like the sausages and the bacon
01:07and things like that. It was just okay. It was fine. It tasted like someone had made
01:12a Richmond sausage and, you know, not underdone, but like not your classic crispy bacon on
01:18a toasty, which had a nice cheese kind of like melted cheese on top. That was it. It
01:23was fine. It tasted okay. Yeah, nothing much to write home about. Wouldn't complain. Wouldn't
01:28say I'd rush back for another one, but it was fine. It was nice. It satisfied me. It
01:31filled me up. It was nice. Onto the drink itself. Now, the drink looked great. As you
01:35can see just in this picture here of their promo material that they've got online. It
01:40was different to a regular latte, the Spanish latte, in the sense that it was just a lot
01:45sweeter. I think I spoke to one of the, one of the people in the Costa place that there
01:49who was making it for me and I asked them, I was like, what makes it Spanish? And they
01:52were like, well, we just use condensed milk to make it like velveteer, more velveteer.
01:56I don't understand how it makes it Spanish, but whatever they want to call it, that's
01:59absolutely fine. It was creamier. It was sweeter. It definitely tasted more velveteer, I guess
02:06you could say that. I think if I was given that or a regular latte, I'd probably go for
02:11this one again. I've got a really big sweet tooth though, so maybe that's why it appealed
02:14to me. And also it had a nice touch, as you can see in this picture here with the kind
02:18of squiggles, the kind of classic Costa wavy lines done in chocolate on top. It was nice.
02:24I liked it. I like the fact that it balanced the sweetness with, you still got a bit of
02:28the kind of classic coffee flavor that definitely came through. Maybe I could have done with
02:32a bit more coffee flavor to it as opposed to just thinking I was drinking something
02:35which was very sweet, condensed milk, but c'est la vie, that's how it goes. It was fine.
02:40Now onto the gingerbread biscuits, the ice gingerbread biscuits. I was really disappointed
02:43with this. It just tastes like plastic. It was really hard. The gingerbread wasn't soft.
02:47I didn't get much ginger flavor from it. The icing on top wasn't really, didn't taste
02:51really much of anything. It said hug me, so I guess it's a Valentine's day thing. Um,
02:56underwhelming, wouldn't bother, which is disappointing because usually gingerbread from Costa is
03:01okay. Like if you get in, um, get a coffee and you're going to go for something as like
03:06a bit of a sweet treat, like I usually go for a Bakewell tart or a gingerbread because
03:09their gingerbread men are pretty good. This was just really underwhelming. I don't know
03:13what was different about it. I just thought not for me at all. It was quite tough. It's
03:17quite hard, nothing appealing to it to be honest. Um, if I'm going to be a brutally
03:22candid, so yeah, that pretty much wraps up our review of the latest Costa items. Uh,
03:26let us know what you think. Let us know if you try the Spanish latte yourself and you
03:29absolutely fell head over heels in love for it. If you will never drink a regular latte
03:32ever again, so long as there's a Spanish version on the menu, get in touch, let us know what
03:36you think. But in the meantime, thanks for watching. Have a lovely week. Cheers.
