00:00We are here today to plant the coronation tree. Now you may say it's been a bit of a while since
00:07the coronation but it's taken a bit of time to find the exact spot to plant it. I've just come
00:12from presenting a King's Award to voluntary service to a group called Operation Encompass
00:17which you may or may not have heard of but they're based in Torpoint and when I said I
00:21was coming on to salt ash to plant a tree they were very aggrieved. There we are.
00:30Because obviously you don't get on with Torpoint as well as you might do. Anyhow
00:34so the story behind the tree was that you may remember 2022 was the
00:40platinum jubilee of her late majesty the Queen and everyone was asked to plant a tree to
00:47commemorate that and there was an organization set up to do that and at the end of it
00:51they had plenty of money left over and then her late majesty obviously died and so that we had a
00:56new king, King Charles, and the suggestion was that everyone all the counties around England,
01:02Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland should plant a tree in memory of the coronation.
01:09So I thought that the best place to plant it would be at the entrance to Cornwall by as close
01:14to the bridge as possible and we originally were hoping to plant it on Carkeel roundabout
01:18but for various I'm told very good reasons we were not allowed to plant on Carkeel roundabout
01:23so thank you to the sign of salt ash for coming up with this excellent place
01:27to plant it and I hope that in 100 years time it will be as tall as that monkey puzzle behind there
01:34and will still be thriving and I hope that you young people who are here will be able to come
01:40back in 50 or 60 years time and say I remember that tree was just a little one and now look at
01:45it massive one shading out all the light from these houses and I've also been wanting to chop
01:49it down but there we are. Right okay I've got a plaque here which comes with it but I think
01:55we're now going to go through the process of planting it. Over to you sir.
01:59Looks to me like someone's planted it already.
02:11It's a bit windy.
02:29It had to be home planted because of the wind.
02:39Lots of lovely worms in there.
02:47I might invite my cadet to have a go too. He does come from Port Chalkworth.
