Super Bowl LVI champion Andrew Whitworth is getting inducted into the East West Shrine Bowl Hall of Fame this Thursday here in Dallas. He joined Shan, RJ and Bobby to talk about this year's version of the college All-Star game, his memories playing against Brian Schottenheimer and what he thinks he'll bring to the Cowboys as head coach, and more.

00:00What was your reaction when you heard the Cowboys were hiring Brian Schottenheimer?
00:21You know, I, it, you know, obviously it heard whispers that it was possible, obviously shocked
00:25like everybody else that that was, uh, you know, really at the end of the day, their
00:29final decision, but not crazily shocked only because it felt like really how the process
00:33went from the beginning.
00:35This was not going to be a normal candidate that you would have thought of because they
00:38didn't really, you know, they didn't make a decision to end the season and then it delayed
00:42in the past, past the time to interview some of those top candidates that week that they
00:46were on the bar.
00:47Um, so then you're like, all right, well you didn't even do your due diligence really.
00:50So truth is, this is going to become an awkward hire situation anyways, unless you're waiting
00:54until all this is over, uh, and you can get to all those guys again.
01:00So I, it kind of felt like it was something where they had a little bit of an idea of
01:03where they might go if McCarthy wasn't the answer.
01:06Um, and then on the flip side of it, uh, I love Shawty and, and all the times I've gotten
01:10to be around him, he's a great human being.
01:12I can see why Dak loves him a lot.
01:14I can see why maybe to them they feel like there's this, um, if you will, like it's opportunity
01:20to build like a, a, a culture and a character to a vibe, to their team that's a little different
01:24than maybe they've had in the past.
01:26Um, cause he's a guy that man, he is going to wear his emotions.
01:30He's going to have a blast.
01:31He's going to create a fun environment.
01:32They're going to compete.
01:34And uh, I think we can't judge it until we get an opportunity to see what this guy looks
01:37like with his shot, because I know players across the league organizations that I've
01:41been around where he's been, they love Brian Schottenheimer and they think he's an awesome
01:45human being.
01:46And I think that's a good place to start in this league this day and age, because we see
01:50a lot of the time, these relationships, these coaches have sound like some of the most important
01:55parts of their level of, of going and getting success.
01:58Andrew Whitworth joining us here on the DNM leasing hotline.
02:00You were in the West with him in Seattle, right?
02:03Like you competed against when he was on that staff.
02:06Yes.
02:07And, uh, you know, and then he was also, you know, at one time, uh, with the Rams.
02:11And so I, a lot of people that were carry over from that, you know, group that are still
02:15there, uh, were around him and, and have shared nothing but great things about him.
02:19And, um, you know, and obviously Richard Sherman, who, uh, you know, I got to do Thursday night
02:23football with every week during the season, uh, was around shoddy too.
02:26So I've been thought of guys that, you know what, they think a lot about him and, and,
02:30uh, you know, I've always walked away, you know, enjoying being around him as a coach.
02:34And I think that's the first place to start and who he looks like as a head coach.
02:38We have no idea because here's the reality guys.
02:40I mean, we see coordinators get hired all the time that we think are absolute insane
02:44coordinators or whatever they do.
02:46And they're a disaster as a head coach and they're not good leaders and they're not all
02:49these things.
02:50So where are we to say that just because we don't know the level of this guy, when he's
02:54a head coach that we know what it looks like.
02:55And maybe when he's in a head coach position and gets to do things the exact way he wants
02:59to do it, uh, maybe he's got a mind frame and a headset that he creates, uh, something
03:04that's a really good opportunity for them to be successful and lays out a plan that
03:07the players buy into.
03:08And so to me, I think it's going to be great to give him a shot.
03:11Yeah.
03:12Is it what we all expected?
03:13The way we all thought it would go, did we feel like the Cowboys did the best they can
03:16absolutely do?
03:17No.
03:18But do I think Brian Schottenhamer deserves this opportunity?
03:21And am I going to give him his chance to, to show us what he's capable of?
03:25Heck yeah.
03:26I'm excited to see it.
03:27Cause I know the human's awesome dude.
03:28And, uh, I look forward to seeing him take his shot and see what he's got.
