00:00We also met Jomar the Wrestler from the Puso Wrestling Federation.
00:05Good morning, Jomar the Wrestler.
00:08Good morning, Jomar.
00:10Jomar, first off, what inspired you to join wrestling?
00:17For me, as a kid, just like any other wrestler before me,
00:23we all became fans of wrestling.
00:25So for me, I became a fan of wrestling at the age of four.
00:28And ever since I watched it on TV, one day, I really wanted to become a wrestler.
00:32So now, I'm a wrestler.
00:35What we were talking about earlier, partner, even when I was a kid,
00:39I was a huge fan of wrestling.
00:41They were there, Kogan, Undertaker.
00:45Those were the times.
00:46Oh, I said it was my time.
00:49No, because partner, they also reached my time.
00:53For me, my time, the Ruthless Aggression Era,
00:57meaning the early 2000s to mid-2000s,
01:01my favorite back then was Shawn Michaels.
01:05But you, Jomar, what era started your wrestling fandom?
01:11It's the same, actually.
01:13I was born in 2001.
01:16So I'm one of the youngest pro wrestlers here in the Philippines.
01:19So I reached Triple H, Shawn Michaels, John Cena.
01:24So to name a few, Undertaker.
01:27So I grew up during the 2000s.
01:30So I reached them.
01:31So who's your biggest bias?
01:35Who's your biggest bias?
01:37There's a lot.
01:38But on top of my mind, it's Triple H and John Cena.
01:42Everyone's favorite childhood hero is John Cena.
01:46Yes, John Cena.
01:47But partner, our pro wrestlers don't know that
01:54it's hard for them to go through training behind the scenes.
01:58For sure.
01:59So my question to Jomar is,
02:01if you want to be a pro wrestler,
02:03give us a step-by-step guide on how to get into this sport.
02:07Because it's not a usual sport, right?
02:10It's kind of unique, partner, right?
02:12And it's somehow violent when you look at it.
02:17First, you have to have a strong heart.
02:21Second, you have to eat a lot so you'll have a big body.
02:25Third, you have to eat a lot so you'll be able to exercise.
02:28So all the energy you get from food,
02:30you have to pour it into the gym, at home.
02:34If you don't have a gym, you won't be able to go to the gym.
02:36Just work out at home.
02:38And you really have to fight the fear
02:43that you might get hurt in wrestling.
02:45So you really need to have a strong heart to participate in wrestling.
02:49Speaking of that, partner,
02:50I heard that it's really painful to compete in wrestling.
02:53What's the worst injury you've experienced here?
02:57There's a lot, actually.
03:00If I were to list them one by one,
03:02basically, my entire body was injured.
03:04So for the past seven years that I've been wrestling,
03:09basically, all of my body parts were injured.
03:12So it's that dangerous.
03:14And the funny thing is,
03:15we didn't get these injuries during shows.
03:19We got them during training.
03:21So the process to become a wrestler is really hard.
03:26So during training, it's really hard.
03:29So your performance on the show is at 100%.
03:33Do you follow safety measures?
03:35Just to ensure that,
03:37since it's already a very physical sport,
03:41you can somehow avoid these injuries?
03:44Ah, yes.
03:45We train three days a week.
03:49So there's a Sunday training.
03:51We have a weekdays training.
03:53So as long as your body can keep up with the training
03:58and you're not injured,
04:01and all of your moves,
04:03all of what we do is relatively safe.
04:06Because even if you do it safely,
04:10you'll still get injured.
04:12So that's how we measure if your body can keep up,
04:15or if you're safe as a worker.
04:18So you have to go through all of that to become a wrestler.
04:23Do you know how good my partner is?
04:25This is Joe Marhe.
04:28What was your reaction
04:30when you were introduced,
04:32or when you were judged by a renowned wrestler,
04:35Tajiri from Japan?
04:37And he said,
04:38you're a great wrestler.
04:40As a matter of fact,
04:41he invited you to visit Japan.
04:44I'm very honored,
04:46because like I said,
04:48I'm one of the youngest wrestlers.
04:50And to be praised by someone,
04:53a legendary wrestler like Tajiri,
04:56is a very big thing for me.
04:58So it shows that Filipino wrestling
05:01can be used anywhere in the world,
05:05especially in Japan.
05:06So I'm very honored that Tajiri said that to me.
05:09Were you able to go to Japan?
05:12Not yet.
05:15But he plans to, partner.
05:17And if I'm not mistaken,
05:18you two will be together.
05:20If ever given the opportunity,
05:22you, Fabio,
05:24Makisig,
05:25you two will go to Japan.
05:26But since we brought up Tajiri, Joe Marhe,
05:31Tajiri is a big part of the founding
05:34of the pro-wrestling scene here in the Philippines.
05:37So can you tell us,
05:40because a lot of people don't know,
05:43a lot of people know Tajiri,
05:44Filipino wrestling fans from his time in WWE.
05:48But they don't know that he's a big part
05:51of the establishment of the pro-wrestling scene here in the Philippines.
05:54So back in 2014,
05:56we didn't have a local wrestling scene here in the Philippines.
05:59So Tajiri and his team
06:03held a wrestling show here in Manila.
06:06So that is called Joshi Jam.
06:08That is 2014.
06:10And there were local wrestling fans who watched.
06:13And some of those people,
06:15they talked with Tajiri,
06:17and Tajiri said that wrestling should be held here in the Philippines
06:21because the Philippine wrestling market has a lot of potential
06:25because Filipinos, we love physical sport.
06:28We love boxing.
06:29We love basketball.
06:30We love MMA.
06:32So from that show,
06:37those same wrestling fans
06:39were the ones who established the first wrestling promotion in the Philippines.
06:45So you can say that Tajiri is the mother of Philippine wrestling.
06:51Since earlier we mentioned Fabio Makising,
06:55your trilogy match was very intense.
06:57Did you expect that you would win against Fabio Makising?
07:02Last year, right?
07:06It was very hard.
07:07It was a very hard match.
07:09Fabio and I have a long history.
07:12We fought three times already.
07:14He lost to me twice.
07:19This particular match is very important to me
07:23because it's the 10-year anniversary of Pinoy wrestling.
07:26And our match actually happened on my birthday as a wrestler.
07:30So that was me celebrating my 70th year as a wrestler.
07:34I also lost to Fabio Makising.
07:37He's my favorite wrestler.
07:44He's the best wrestler in the whole Philippines.
07:47That's a good birthday.
07:48Winning against one of the best wrestlers here in the Philippines.
07:53And arguably the face of their federation.
07:56But speaking of,
07:57Jomar, we know that you started in this federation
08:02because of your heart.
08:04It's a bit new, right?
08:05Yes.
08:06It was established last year, right?
08:08Yes, last year.
08:09Manila Wrestling Federation.
08:11Yes, that's where it started.
08:13But describe to us your journey
08:16because I know that you established this wrestling federation.
08:20How big of a challenge was that?
08:24Tell us about your journey.
08:28Puso Wrestling, in short words,
08:32is a pro-wrestling promotion
08:35built by wrestlers for pro-wrestlers
08:37and for pro-wrestling fans.
08:39Our former home,
08:43which is Manila Wrestling Federation,
08:45some of the key people in that promotion
08:49then left the industry.
08:50So we had to let the pro-wrestling die
08:55because we built it from basically nothing.
08:58Since we can run shows as wrestlers,
09:03we took the opportunity
09:06to establish our own wrestling promotion.
09:10And for those people
09:12who is interested to be a pro-wrestler,
09:15what are the qualifications to be one?
09:18First, they should be of legal age.
09:21Second, they should be willing to undergo pro-wrestling training
09:26because it's really hard to train for being a pro-wrestler.
09:31And third, they should have a strong body.
09:35They should take their diet seriously.
09:37They should have a clear mind
09:40that they want to try everything they can.
09:47I'll just add to that.
09:48What are the misconceptions
09:50about pro-wrestlers?
09:53I hear this a lot.
09:55People say that pro-wrestling is easy
09:57because you can just watch on TV
10:00what pro-wrestlers are doing
10:02and you can easily imitate it.
10:04No.
10:05I'm gonna be the first one to say no
10:08because for me,
10:09my whole body was injured doing the thing I love.
10:12And if people say that it's easy,
10:16no, it's not easy.
10:17You will end up hurting yourself.
10:20That's why we always put the warning before the show
10:23that do not try this at home
10:24because we are trained professionals.
10:26We practice every day
10:28to give the best performance for the people
10:32so they go home happy when they watch the show.
10:35That's right, partner.
10:36When I was young, I didn't listen to that.
10:38Because after watching wrestling,
10:41my brother and I used to wrestle.
10:43There were close lines.
10:44Because, partner, when you see that warning,
10:46although don't imitate it,
10:48when you see that warning,
10:49you want to imitate it more.
10:51Yes.
10:52Of course, when you're young,
10:53it's just a game.
10:55That's right, partner.
10:56But partner,
10:57wrestling is not just physical,
10:59it's also theatrical.
11:00So, Jomar,
11:01we know that there's a part of wrestling
11:04about engaging the audience.
11:07Can you tell us more about it
11:09and how you hone your skills
11:11when it comes to this aspect of the game?
11:13So, for this,
11:15what you see on the camera is just me.
11:18My personality in real life
11:21is just amped up by 200%.
11:24So, it really needs to explode.
11:25And our characters are pretty much Filipino.
11:29So, you have wrestlers who are lazy.
11:32You have wrestlers who like to explode.
11:35We aim to represent the Filipino people
11:39that when we watch on TV,
11:41for example,
11:43in the terminal of Tricycle,
11:45when we watch the Tricycle drivers,
11:47we're like,
11:48this is a wrestler but it's a Tricycle driver.
11:50So, we hope to give inspiration
11:53to the people here.
11:56So, basically,
11:57whatever you see on TV or on the internet,
12:01it's just us.
12:02Our personality is just amplified.
12:04Speaking of his personality partner,
12:09can you tell us more about your personal life
12:12outside of wrestling?
12:14Because the wrestlers,
12:15when you see them on TV,
12:16they're very tough.
12:18Very,
12:19don't mess with me kind of status.
12:24So, how are you outside?
12:27Outside of wrestling,
12:29I'm just a simple person.
12:31So, I like to,
12:33I always go to the gym.
12:35So, that's my life.
12:36Go to the gym,
12:37go to training,
12:38go to shows.
12:39Outside of those stuff,
12:42I'm just a simple person.
12:44Just chill.
12:46I just relax every day.
12:48But most of the time,
12:50I'm just in training.
12:52So, that's my life.
12:53I'm pretty much a pro wrestler
12:56by heart and by blood.
12:58Partner,
12:59maybe we should play a game
13:02for our viewers.
13:04Brother Jomar,
13:05I'll give you wrestling terminology
13:07and your explanation.
13:08Wrestling jargon,
13:09let's explain it to our viewers.
13:12What does it mean?
13:13This is just basic.
13:14Babyface and heel.
13:16Babyface,
13:17if you're handsome,
13:18heel,
13:19if you're ugly,
13:20you're ugly.
13:21Oh, like that.
13:22We can use that, right?
13:24In our codes.
13:26Because if you say babyface,
13:28it's self-explanatory.
13:30If you're handsome,
13:31heel,
13:32you're ugly.
13:34Okay, okay.
13:35We can use that.
13:36What's kayfabe?
13:38Kayfabe,
13:39it's a person,
13:40our neighbor.
13:41Kayfabe.
13:42He doesn't want to break the kayfabe.
13:44Okay, okay.
13:45So, what does bump mean?
13:47Bump,
13:48it's a term
13:50that when
13:52you knock out your opponent,
13:53you bump.
13:54So, bump.
13:55When you're knocked out,
13:56bump, you bump.
13:57Okay.
13:58Lastly, what's promo?
14:00Promo is basically,
14:02you're promoting the show.
14:03So,
14:04speaking of shows,
14:05we have upcoming shows
14:07this year
14:08in Brawl Pit Bulusan.
14:09So, that's an example of promo.
14:11There, there.
14:12And he promoted.
14:13That's part of it.
14:14And,
14:15if you have a message,
14:17Jomar,
14:18this is probably your chance
14:19to talk to our viewers.
14:21Ah, okay.
14:22So,
14:23Hi, I'm Jomar.
14:25And I'm from Puso Wrestling.
14:26I'm inviting you to support
14:28Pinoy Wrestling.
14:30Watch us on Facebook,
14:32Instagram,
14:33and YouTube.
14:34Visit Puso Wrestling

14:38platforms.
14:39And,
14:40see you there.
14:41Please,
14:42support us.
14:44Yes.
14:45Thank you so much, Jomar,
14:46the wrestler.
14:49You accompanied us this morning.
14:50It's an honor for us.
14:52And,
14:53that conversation was very exciting
14:55and a very refreshing part.
14:56And,
14:57I learned a lot of terminology.
14:58Yes.
14:59I watch wrestling,
15:00but I just learned that.
