00:00You look like the most prepped to take in this cold, man.
00:06I'm wearing more layers than you can see as well, believe you me.
00:09I'm absolutely gold this year.
00:11But, starting in any kind of franchise, starting any kind of job, it's difficult and daunting
00:16enough.
00:17But when you're doing the job and playing a character, or playing the role loosely that
00:21your co-star has been playing successfully for many, many years, what's that like on
00:27set?
00:28Is that kind of a corner of your eye looking going, is he judging how I'm doing this?
00:31Well, no, I think it's, they're different people, right?
00:36But from the very first time when we did it on the TV show, Falcon and Winter Soldier,
00:40it was, I realized how simple my job was.
00:43Because Danny as an actor, and Joaquin as someone that has this hero right there in
00:47his vicinity, all I had to do was observe him.
00:51And so it wasn't necessarily here looking over my shoulder to see if I was doing it
00:53right.
00:54It was literally like, alright, what are you doing?
00:56Because then I get to quite literally learn from you, how you engage with the room, how
01:00you lead the culture on set, like Danny looking at Anthony.
01:05But then for Joaquin to look at Sam, it was like, how are you a leader?
01:09How are you taking on this mantle?
01:10And so it was kind of an art imitating life and life imitating art.
01:14So for me it felt like quite, it took away all that stress and that pressure.
01:17This sort of learning curve you've been on the last couple of years, it's kind of mind
01:21blowing, I guess, if you were to sit down to yourself as a little boy and say, this
01:25is what's going to happen over this period of time.
01:27Doing the Top Gun stuff, working with Tom Cruise, moving into this, working with Anthony,
01:31working with Harrison Ford and the like.
01:35Has it been like a roller coaster for you, or are you just trying to soak up as much
01:41as possible?
01:42And how is this kind of experience different from the last one?
01:45Well, I think it hasn't been that much of a roller coaster.
01:49Press stuff is roller coastery because we're going from one city to the other.
01:53On set, there is a through line between all these greats that I've been lucky to work
01:57with, which is, and I always say this, success leaves clues, right?
02:00There's an inherent quality within all their work, these artists that I've been able to
02:05play with.
02:07And it's consistently like caring for your craft, putting more energy into it than anybody
02:12else could fathom.
02:13And that doesn't make it that simple, obviously, because then it's like, okay, where are the
02:17hours of the day?
02:18But I think that is something that I've carried with me and want to keep carrying through
02:21the rest of my career.
02:22It would be foolish of me to ignore what's made them so successful, you know?
02:27And, well, talking about what's made them so successful, what do you think is the secret
02:31source of this particular franchise?
02:33It's just grown and grown and grown and turned into something that I don't think anyone expected
02:3720 years ago.
02:38Why do you think it keeps uniting people in how society gets more and more polarised?
02:43People still tuning into these Marvel movies, we're still breaking bread over these stories?
02:47Well, I think it's craftsmanship.
02:50The comics are obviously magical, the stories are magical, but there's other magical stuff
02:53in the world, right?
02:54But Marvel does such a great job of collecting and bringing into groups some of the best
03:00craftsmen in the industry.
03:02So that's where art and from stunts to the actors, it gives you the state-of-the-art tools
03:10to be able to tell a story.
03:12And even then, it's always a film success as a crapshoot, because there has to be that
03:16little bit of madness and magic, and I think we're so blessed to just be able to work
03:22with the best of the best, from cinematographers to directors.
03:25I think when it boils down to that, it's a company that believes in art and just brings
03:31in the best collaborators possible.
03:33Well, finally, Falcon's had a great trajectory so far.
03:35Looking forward to becoming Captain America in about ten years' time?
03:37Oh, come on!
03:38He's trying to get the clickbait on that one!
