00:00Mr. President, welcome.
00:05Thank you very much.
00:16Last week, long before the crash, I signed an executive order restoring our highest standards
00:22for air traffic controllers and other important jobs throughout the country.
00:25So it was very interesting.
00:27About a week ago, almost upon entering office, I signed something last week that was an executive
00:38order very powerful on restoring the highest standards of air traffic controllers and others,
00:43by the way.
00:45And my administration will set the highest possible bar for aviation safety.
00:49We have to have our smartest people.
00:51It doesn't matter what they look like, how they speak, who they are.
00:55What matters is intellect, talent.
00:57The word talent.
00:58They have to be talented, naturally talented geniuses.
01:02You can't have regular people doing that job.
01:05They won't be able to do it.
01:08But we'll restore faith in American air travel.
01:10I'll have more to say about that.
01:12I do want to point out that various articles that appeared prior to my entering office
01:20and here's one.
01:22The FAA's diversity push includes focus on hiring people with severe intellectual and
01:28psychiatric disabilities.
01:32That is amazing.
01:34And then it says FAA says people with severe disabilities are most underrepresented segment
01:40of the workforce and they want them in and they want them.
01:43They can be air traffic controllers.
01:45I don't think so.
01:47This was in January 14th.
01:50So that was a week before I entered office.
01:53They put a big push to put diversity into the FAA's program.
02:05I'm trying to figure out how you can come to the conclusion right now that diversity
02:10had something to do with this crash.
02:12Because I have common sense, okay?
02:15Unfortunately, a lot of people don't.
02:18We want brilliant people doing this.
02:20This is a major chess game at the highest level.
02:30We do not know what led to this crash, but we have some very strong opinions and ideas
02:36and I think we'll probably state those opinions now.
02:39Because over the years I've watched as things like this happen and they say, well, we're
02:43always investigating and then the investigation three years later they announce it.
02:47We think we have some pretty good ideas.
02:51But we'll find out how this disaster occurred and we'll ensure that nothing like this ever
02:56happens again.
02:57The FAA and the NTSB and the U.S. military will be carrying out a systematic and comprehensive
03:04investigation.
03:05Our new Secretary of Transportation, Sean Duffy, his second day on the job when that
03:13happened, it's a rough one.
03:17We'll be working tirelessly.
03:18He's a great gentleman.
03:19The whole group, these are great people.
03:22And they are working tirelessly to figure out exactly what happened.
03:27We will state certain opinions, however.
03:29I'm also immediately appointing an acting commissioner to the FAA, Christopher Rochelot,
03:36a 22-year veteran of the agency, highly respected.
03:41Christopher, thank you very much.
03:43Appreciate it.
03:44We must have only the highest standards for those who work in our aviation system.
03:48I changed the Obama standards from very mediocre at best to extraordinary.
03:55You remember that.
03:57Only the highest aptitude, they have to be the highest intellect, and psychologically
04:04superior people were allowed to qualify for air traffic controllers.
04:10That was not so prior to getting there.
04:14When I arrived in 2016, I made that change very early on because I always felt this was
04:19a job that, and other jobs too, but this was a job that had to be superior intelligence.
04:25And we didn't really have that, and we had it.
04:30And then when I left office, and Biden took over, he changed them back to lower than ever
04:38before.
04:39I put safety first, Obama, Biden, and the Democrats put policy first.
04:44And they put politics at a level that nobody's ever seen, because this was the lowest level.
04:53Their policy was horrible, and their politics was even worse.
05:00The FAA, which is overseen by Secretary Pete Buttigieg, a real winner, that guy's a real
05:13winner.
05:14Do you know how badly everything's run since he's run this Department of Transportation?
05:18He's a disaster.
05:20He was a disaster as a mayor.
05:22He ran his city into the ground, and he's a disaster now.
05:26He's just got a good line of bullshit.
05:29The Department of Transportation, his government agency charged with regulating civil aviation.
05:35Well, he runs it, 45,000 people, and he's run it right into the ground with his diversity.
05:42So I had to say that it's terrible.
05:46Then it's a group within the FAA, another story, determined that the workforce was too
05:52white, that they had concerted efforts to get the administration to change that and
06:00to change it immediately.
06:02This was in the Obama administration just prior to my getting there.
06:07And we took care of African Americans, Hispanic Americans.
06:11We took care of everybody at levels that nobody's ever seen before.
06:14It's one of the reasons I won.
06:17But they actually came out with a directive, too white.
06:20And we want the people that are competent.
