00:00There are a great many things that we left this country in very good shape.
00:03The economy that was growing, our education standards that had increased significantly.
00:08Crime was actually falling but that won't be necessarily everybody's experience of that.
00:13We need more police on the beat and what we've seen is this government actually stepped back
00:18from many of the initiatives we were taking to put more police on the streets and to reduce crime.
00:23We saw in the latter period significant reductions in the level of illegal migration
00:29as well as legal migration.
00:31There was more work to do. The Conservative Party has been very clear.
00:34We're under new leadership. We've been very clear that the state needs significant rewiring.
00:40It's not just any particular party and we're seeing that even this government is failing very, very fast
00:46because they're working through a same failed system.
00:50So we need to look again at how Whitehall works.
00:53We need to look at the role of the courts in second-guessing elected officials
00:58and we need to make sure that so many of these arms-length bodies, these quangos,
01:02are held to account and delivered for the British people.
