00:00The first wave flume laboratory in Ilocos Norte was formally launched to assist in the construction of projects to protect the coastal communities.
00:10The details of this were reported by Rani Dorilaga of Radyo Pilipinas Lawag.
00:17This is one of the seawalls in the Ilocos Norte that was inspected by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
00:23after it was damaged by the typhoon Marse last year.
00:27This was the solution of the first wave flume laboratory launched by the Department of Science and Technology and Mariano Marcos State University in Batac City.
00:37Through coastal engineering, the government's projects will be strengthened to protect the coastal communities.
00:46The facility to actually serve the purposes of research, extension, and services in the field of coastal engineering,
00:54particularly in the design, development, and maintenance of our coastal infrastructure and flood defenses as was expected.
01:05And so that the government's funds are not wasted, the planned projects will be tested first in the facility.
01:12DOST and MMSU also support the installation of mangroves or bakawan as a natural seawall.
01:20As much as possible, we don't want the seawall to be expensive.
01:24And if your seawall is misplaced, instead of protecting the coastal communities, it will also enhance coastal erosion.
01:33The Department of Public Works and Highways or DPWH will be the first to use the facility because they are the ones implementing these projects.
01:41DOST agreed that the so-called project is worth P41 million.
