Accusations that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has committed treason against the King and the royal institution are baseless, says the Backbenchers Club (BBC).

This comes after Opposition leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin claimed on Tuesday (Feb 4) that the government’s alleged attempt to conceal the addendum order on house arrest for Datuk Seri Najib Razak amounted to “an act of treason” against the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

At a press conference on Wednesday (Feb 5), BBC chairman Datuk Mohd Shahar Abdullah described the accusations as a political ploy to mislead the public for the Opposition’s own gain.

00:00We, the BBC, want to affirm that the accusation that was laid down by the Honourable Speaker of the House of Representatives in the people's court yesterday,
00:11which claimed that the Prime Minister belittled the institution of the King, is a slander, evil and baseless at all.
00:22Firstly, our argument is that there is no element of indignation towards the Prime Minister of Malaysia.
00:32The Honourable Prime Minister has confirmed the existence of the title,
00:38Kebawah Duli Ya Maha Mulya Tuanku Sultan Pahang,
00:42related to the protection of the house for the former Prime Minister of Malaysia,
00:45Datuk Seri Najib Tal Raza.
00:48The Prime Minister has also explained that the title has never been given to him,
00:54and insisted that the matter related to the title of the addendum is under the jurisdiction of the State Attorney's Office,
01:03AGC, not under his responsibility as Prime Minister,
01:07stating that the facts cannot be considered as a slander.
01:14Secondly, we consider this as a manipulation of facts by the opposition.
01:21This accusation is an old tactic of the opposition to confuse the people
01:28by playing with the sentiments of the institution of the King for their own political interests.
01:35This is an attempt by the BBC that is not responsible
01:39for causing concern among the people who live in harmony,
01:45prosperity and peace at this time.
01:48Thirdly, when it comes to investment,
01:53for the BBC, investment depends on policy and economy,
01:58not on political slander.
02:01The claim that investors will not enter this country
02:06due to the fact that investment is not based at all.
02:10The decision of investors depends on economic stability,
02:14policy of investors and confidence in the government,
02:18not political slander that does not reflect reality.
02:23Thirdly, the BBC considers the attitude of the opposition
02:30to be irresponsible.
02:32Such slander not only reflects the impropriety of politics,
02:37but can also damage the relationship between the government and the institution of the King
02:43and damage the image of the country at the international level.
02:47The opposition leader should be more responsible
02:51in issuing statements, not spreading baseless claims
02:56for the sake of political interests.
02:59He should adhere to the noble principle of subordination
03:04to the noble subordination of the King,
03:09which we heard the other day.
03:13Fifthly, we are confident of the Prime Minister's commitment
03:19to the institution of the King
03:21throughout the administration of the government of Madani,
03:25the ruling parliamentary government,
03:27which is highly respected by the Prime Minister.
03:29The BBC sees that the Prime Minister always shows high respect
03:34to the institution of the King
03:36and adheres to the principle of the king of subordination.
03:40All government actions are always in line with the provision of subordination
03:44and prioritize the interests of the country.
03:47Therefore, the members of the Parliament, the ruling parliament and the BBC
03:52reaffirm once again that the accusation of the opposition leader is not true
03:57and is only aimed at inciting the people.
04:00The people need to reject political slander
04:03and put an end to the country's development agenda.
