00:00Welcome to Christchurch, I'm Charlotte.
00:02I'm Laura.
00:04Laura?
00:06Exactly, you'll see.
00:08Definitely.
00:14Oh.
00:16I'm David.
00:18David.
00:20Such a nice day.
00:22Come on.
00:30Oh.
00:32Yeah.
00:42Hello.
00:44You've been delightful.
00:46Did you come to our reception?
00:48I did, yes.
00:50No, no.
00:52I don't think we've met.
00:54We just thought it would be a good way to meet you.
00:56It's fantastic.
00:58It's absolutely fantastic.
01:00It's very nice to see you.
01:06We really appreciate it.
01:08I've heard so much about you.
01:10You're doing such a good job.
01:12It's fantastic.
01:14We've got a long background in public service,
01:16but this is very special.
01:18It's very special because it's very centred on
01:20the most vulnerable.
01:22It's a wonderful place for people to be able to
01:24come and sort of
01:26share an open space.
01:28It's wonderful to see.
01:30It's a lovely building.
01:32This is John.
01:34Have you been here from the beginning?
01:36Not from the beginning.
01:38I've been here for about 18 months.
01:40It's a very good place.
01:42I've heard very good reports.
01:44Fantastic.
01:46If you'd like to take a seat, we can sit for a minute
01:48and I'll just talk you through
01:50who we are and what we do
01:52and then we can get to meet a couple of the projects.
01:54I've lost my job.
01:56Often
01:58the services provided
02:00such as probation services and housing services
02:02tend to be a very deficit model
02:04and this is the opposite.
02:06It's about opportunity, it's about aspiration and hope.
02:08It's about that psychologically informed
02:10environment which is welcoming.
02:12The welcome team is who you've met
02:14and when you arrived.
02:16It doesn't matter.
02:18It's absolutely
02:20no point necessarily.
02:22It brings the same challenges.
02:24For example, last year we had
02:26just under 12,000 people who visited
02:28the space
02:30and the welcome team provided
02:32a tribute to most.
02:34It does actually explain what we do.
02:36There's many, many services.
02:38Whether it's housing.
02:40One of the things that we really speak to as well
02:42is the people building agencies
02:44and social capital.
02:46We asked people what they wanted
02:48and a lot of it was
02:50we want aspiration, we want ambition
02:52we want services to be ambitious for us.
02:54We held that at the heart of it.
02:56How can we help people to really move on with their lives?
02:58What we know is if people build
03:00their personal social capital
03:02communities flourish and cities flourish.
03:04That's at the heart of it.
03:06It's helping people.
03:08I think we're going to walk down the building
03:10just introduce you to a couple of projects
03:12and then to come up with a new one.
03:14We've got amazing classes.
03:16We meet people
03:18on the streets.
03:20We go to the tents.
03:22We go to the hostels.
03:24We try and link them in with housing.
03:26I think it's a wonderful concept
03:28to have
03:30everything under the same roof.
03:32Absolutely.
03:34It's how it works.
03:36I'm having a hard time getting it all under.
03:38Nobody can feed off of anybody else.
03:40Very nice.
03:42Say hello to people.
03:44Hello. Nice to meet you.
03:46I am one of the nurses at the
03:48Clubshammer Cemetery.
03:50I work and do outreach.
03:52Do help outreach to tents,
03:54tent campings, hostels and things like that.
03:56Also we run drop-in committees
03:58where people can just arrive
04:00because appointments can be quite busy.
04:02It's very difficult to get to appointments.
04:04We do a drop-in service in the mornings
04:06and then appointments in the afternoons
04:08for people that have longer
04:10or more complex health needs.
04:12I'm the operational manager
04:14for staff.
04:16I try and make sure everything runs as smoothly
04:18as possible.
04:20What are you up to?
04:32This is Jeannie, our lead for Club Women.
04:34Welcome, lovely to meet you.
04:36Thank you so much for coming.
04:38It's a pleasure to be here.
04:40I'm going to hand over now to Jeannie
04:42and the team who are here
04:44and let you spend some time here.
04:46Tell us what we're up to.
04:48We are a women's project
04:50based in Exeter.
04:52We've gone through lots and lots
04:54of different guises
04:56and shapes.
04:58Rachel supports women.
05:00We have a women's finance project.
05:02How are you?
05:04I'm good, thank you.
05:06I've launched a project
05:08called Resilient Rising
05:10which is basically
05:12about financial and economic abuse.
05:14Then they'll say,
05:16I've had trouble sleeping
05:18or I've been struggling with my nightmares or flashbacks.
05:20Then we just work through that subject.
05:22Whether that's
05:24psychoeducation or whether that's working
05:26in creative ways.
05:28I've got lots of fidget toys, play-doh,
05:30arts and crafts and things.
05:32Then we just contain the session
05:34in its own right so that when the women
05:36leave they feel a lot more supported.
05:38Then they come back again.
05:40Absolutely, yes.
05:42It's like a whole program.
05:44Yes.
05:46The way that I approach the sessions
05:48is very much based on
05:50women's trust.
05:52To share the space with me and actually be so open
05:54about what's been happening.
05:56Both of them have learned incredibly well.
05:58I've had bad experiences before
06:00but they've helped me so much
06:02in overcoming that.
06:04This is Sarah.
06:06I fled after just over 10 years
06:08of a domestic abuse relationship.
06:10I got brought up to Exeter
06:12where I
06:14then went on CoLab.
06:16I was in a refuge group.
06:18Unfortunately I did go through
06:20another domestic abuse relationship
06:22while I was here.
06:24CoLab has been fantastic.
06:26A lot of opportunities
06:28for us to learn, to be creative.
06:30I've definitely gained
06:32my confidence back.
06:34Things are looking up.
06:36Yes, things are looking up.
06:38Yes.
06:40It's so wonderful to have somebody
06:42to be able to relate to
06:44and talk to and understand.
06:46So you're getting
06:48gradually back into
06:50your life again.
06:52Housing is a bit difficult
06:54for me at the moment.
07:10Thank you for watching my video.
07:12Please subscribe to my channel.
07:14See you again soon.
07:16Bye for now.
