00:00The government says all of its policies must consider national unity and obtain the cabinet's

00:07This comes after the controversy surrounding the proposed guidelines for Muslims attending
00:11festivities, funerals, or events at non-Muslim places of worship.
00:17National Unity Minister Erwin Agundagang and Religious Affairs Minister Naeem Mokhtar
00:21said the cabinet discussed the confusion that arose over the proposal today.
00:25They said the cabinet agreed that JAKIM can issue advisories to Muslims on the need to
00:29preserve their faith, but such advisories are not policies.
00:33Earlier today, Sinchew quoted a source as saying the cabinet had decided to scrap the
00:38proposed guidelines.
00:40Under the proposed rules, there can be no speeches or songs with religious propaganda
00:44or performances that could insult Muslims.
00:47Premises are also not allowed to display non-Islamic religious symbols.
00:51All organizers would need to obtain the views of Islamic authorities if their event were
00:55to involve Muslims.
