00:00The cabinet will discuss the proposed guidelines on Muslim participation in
00:04non-Muslim festivities and funerals tomorrow, as well as events held at
00:09non-Muslim places of worship, says Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
00:13He was asked to comment on Religious Affairs Minister Naeem Mokhtar's
00:16statement that the government was working on clear rules for
00:19Muslim involvement in such events.
00:21Naeem had said yesterday the guidelines were being drafted to ensure clarity
00:25and consistency in addressing concerns about the involvement
00:28of Muslims in such events.
00:30Under the proposed rules, there can be no speeches or songs with religious
00:34propaganda or performances that would insult Muslims, while the premises
00:38cannot display the religious symbols of faiths other than Islam.
00:41Separately, Anwar addressed concerns about whistleblowers being advised
00:45not to go public with allegations of wrongdoing, as doing so could
00:48reduce their legal protection.
00:50However, he said the government was reviewing the matter.
00:53On Tuesday, Law and Institutional Reform Minister Azalina Othman-Saeed
00:58whistleblowers must first report such information to enforcement
01:01agencies to be eligible for protection.
01:04Azalina said the government was working on amendments to improve
01:06the Whistleblower Protection Act, including provisions to address
01:09cases where whistleblowers acted in good faith.
