00:00We keep on leveling up out here on Radio Row with sports reporter Kevin Walsh, Donny
00:05Rightside, and Donovan McNabb, Eagles quarterback. You play for some other
00:10teams, I don't care, I don't acknowledge it, it never happened. Donovan, how are we
00:14feeling man, it's Super Bowl week out here. You know what I'm doing outstanding
00:17man, it's always a great time coming here on Media Row because you know it's a
00:21an opportunity for me to see a lot of familiar faces. Yeah. Obviously playing
00:27this game for 13 years and seeing guys that you've competed with, guys
00:32that you've been in the trenches with, and then also my afterlife of working in
00:37the media so seeing a lot of the media faces and guys that I've worked with in
00:42different networks and what to see what they're doing now. Alright, you ready to
00:46get down to business? Let's get down to business. 99 you get to Philadelphia, Doug Peterson is the
00:51quarterback ahead of you, Andy Reid is your head coach. Correct. You come to a new
00:54city here, what was it like the first year? You know what, the first year was
01:00was a learning experience. The first year was one that I enjoyed because the
01:06preparation of it all, I understood a little bit more about the game. Yeah.
01:10Learning from Doug, Doug was a guy that actually was a tone setter for me
01:15because you know, Andy liked to always bring up, well Brett did this and Brett
01:20did that, and I'm like, listen, I started hating Brett. I was like, first of all, I was like, will you please stop
01:26bringing Brett's name up? I'm not Brett. And he's like, hey, I'm just trying to
01:30get you going. I was like, you got me going, I'm good. And so, but I always had
01:36the guy that I could lean on and that was Doug and I'm so happy that he moved
01:40into the coaching realm and was able to win a Super Bowl as a coach instead of
01:46as a player. Got you. Now also, if we take it to 2000, everybody remembers the
01:50Pickle Juice game, game one against the Dallas Cowboys. I felt like that was when
01:54the Philadelphia Eagles asserted themselves, we're back and we're here to
01:57stay. Tell me about that Pickle Juice game and how you destroyed the Cowboys,
02:01but you announced, I'm here, the Eagles are here, let's get busy. Well, anytime it
02:05comes to beating the Cowboys, it's got to be exciting, you know. I look at it, I don't know when the
02:10turning point was, was it in Dallas in that particular game? Because that was
02:15the first game of the year. First game of the year, hot. It was smoking and I look at it, you
02:21know, it reminds me back when we played the Pittsburgh Steelers and we came back
02:24to win in that particular game. I think that was kind of the time where things
02:29shifted, where people begin to believe. Yeah. Believe in each other, believe in
02:35the process and understand the path in which our coaching staff at that time,
02:41which was very young, inexperienced, but we were in the journey together and I
02:47think that was kind of when it propelled and then, you know, obviously beating the
02:50Cowboys, it's just beating the Cowboys. Exactly, because the build-up for the
02:54Eagles in you was awesome throughout the early 2000s and when even when you go
02:57into 2000, you know, you get the playoff victory there, you lose the New York
03:01Giants, but the very next year, like you're a Chicago kid. Yeah. You guys were
03:04fantastic the whole way through. You beat Tampa Bay again and then right after that,
03:08you knock off Chicago with the slam dunk on the goalpost after the quarterback
03:12draw. I did get up on that one. You did get up. I did display the old school, high school
03:18hops, you know, but you know what, anytime you get a chance to beat Chicago at home,
03:22because I had, I had, I had fans there, I had my family members and
03:27friends at the game, but you know what, it's like, it's funny, you're talking
03:33about our journey in an early part and the fun that we had at that particular time
03:38because we were kind of the unknown and to go into Chicago, because I
03:43think they, where'd they go, 13 and 3 or something? Coming off the box. Yeah, like,
03:48you know, they were living a life. I think they remade the Super Bowl
03:52shuffle, which pissed us off, and then so we went in there to
03:57dominate in Soldier Field, which, that's where I played my last high school game
04:02in the city championship at Soldier Field, and to go in there to dominate the
04:06Bears was one that I was, I was waiting for the offseason so I can come back
04:11home with my chest out. So she kind of, bulletin board material, that's a real
04:15thing that people really kind of ramp up and everything, because I feel, I don't
04:20know, AJ Brown might be a genius, I'm still trying to figure it out, where he
04:24was the one who's like, our passing game might be terrible, and then the Eagles
04:27had the huge game against Pittsburgh and they were like, see, we told you we were
04:30awesome, it's like, did you guys just create bulletin board material for
04:34yourselves? But they did seem to rally around it. Well, I think what happened
04:39after his comments, and I do Philly radio every Monday after the game,
04:45and so what I said was, all you have to do is just go down the locker
04:50room, go talk to the quarterback, then you two both go upstairs to go talk to
04:55Keller Moore, the offensive coordinator. That's not something that you
04:59mention in the media because it's gonna be blown up, no matter if you meant it
05:03one way or you meant to another way, they're gonna take it, however, and it's
05:07gonna become a whole story that's gonna kind of creep into the locker room and
05:11it's gonna become toxic. Yeah. And so, you know, he's kind of
05:16always like firing back at times when, you know, when former players say something, but
05:22what it did was now, it put Keller Moore on notice to be able to call plays that
05:28his quarterback is comfortable with. Like, a lot of what they're running is
05:33Keller Moore just dialing up plays that he feels at that particular time is the
05:38right play or whatever, but you still got to build that relationship with your
05:42quarterback. And so, you know, and then you got to think about Jalen has been in
05:48four different offenses in seven years. Yeah, it's been a lot of moving around.
05:54Like, and after this game, he'll probably have to be in another particular
05:59offense because Keller Moore's gonna get the Saints job. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So, it's a lot of
06:04moving around. One more, Donnie, before we wrap up. I want to get one more from you.
06:0703, obviously, 02 was really tough. You came back from the broken leg against
06:11Atlanta. You guys struggled a little bit against the Bucs. Then at 03 again. 04 was a
06:15magical year. You play in Philadelphia. Sometimes it's really hard with the
06:19media and fans there. What was it like just getting over the hump because in 04
06:22it felt like a celebration and you were fantastic in that playoff run. What did
06:29it feel like? It did feel like the weight was off your shoulders a little bit
06:32because we feel it. I mean, we feel it's not so much what the fans are saying and
06:37and the rumblings. It's we felt that energy because we knew how hard it was
06:42to get to the NFC Championship game. But also now we finally got over the
06:46hump and it says a lot about our team and organization. Yeah, awesome. Donovan
06:51McNabb right here on Sports Grid as we get set for the Super Bowl, baby.
06:55You see it right there. Now we're talking. Big game on Sunday. Can't wait to
07:00watch it play out.
