00:00And let's go back now to Ecuador amid the general elections that are taking
00:04place in the country and to go deep into all the details on this day we contact
00:09our Special Envoy in Quito, Ecuador, Jorge Gestoso. Hi Jorge, what are the
00:13latest informations at this hour?
00:17Thank you very much. We are about minutes away for the closing of the polls. It's
00:23going to be at 5 p.m. The electional day was taking place from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
00:31according to the National Electoral Council. By 1 p.m. 30% of the electorate
00:38has already voted. Theoretically, according to previous elections, 80 to
00:4483 percent of the people that are obviously ready to vote are going to do
00:51it. It's a tradition in Ecuador that people go to the polls after lunch, so
00:57there's going to be the expectation that the percentage is going to increase.
01:03Regarding to the electoral elections overseas, we're talking about
01:11the Ecuadorians who live abroad. According to the National
01:16Electoral Council, 47 out of the 97 electoral places has been already closed.
01:25There are almost like a half a million Ecuadorians living abroad that could be
01:32eligible to vote, but in reality the calculation that it's about 51,000 is
01:39the one who really votes. There are about 600 observers between national
01:47observers and international observers. In terms of international observers, we're
01:51talking about over five to six hundred. There has been an incident in the
01:57morning where most of the candidates voted in the morning. The candidate has
02:04been, according to the polls, chosen to be in the third place. We're talking
02:09about Leonidas Issa from the party Pachacuti, that is the amalgamated of
02:17the indigenous movement. He has voted and he, after he made his vote, has
02:26given some declarations to the press and he mentioned that his concern or his
02:31denunciation is that in this election the level is not, the field is not level
02:39and it's not level in favor of the president slash candidate Daniel Novoa
02:46and that is absolutely going against democracy. When he was giving his
02:53speeches to the to the press, according to sources, there was some incident with
03:00a policeman or a soldier that they were trying to prohibit him to give his
03:07declaration because there were uncomfortable denunciations. That
03:13incident was a reflection of many discomfort in many candidates that
03:20they're saying that most definitely the president candidate Daniel Novoa was
03:26taking advantage of the, if you want, elements of the government of the states
03:31in his favor. He was pushing for a candidate to be eliminated of the
03:39registration and so on and so forth. By five o'clock, so again in about 53
03:46minutes, it's going to be closing the polls and the National Council of
03:53Electoral Council Servers, the CNE in Spanish, says that 60 minutes or 90
04:00minutes later, mostly 90 minutes later, we're going to start to get results of
04:05this election today here in Ecuador. We get back to you now.
04:15Thank you, Gestoso, for all the first-hand information. We will keep in
04:19contact throughout this
