00:00It has always been a genre that has always existed and there is always an audience, because
00:17then when the CDs of Sir Guns N' Roses, Metallica come, they are always full, Linkin Park,
00:23etc.
00:24So actually the audience exists even in Italy, but there is no strong national scene, in
00:28the sense that in Germany, for example, already from the 80s you had the Scorpions, the
00:33Helloween, then there were Rammstein, Egono Apes, there has always been a scene, since
00:39the 80s, always very strong nationally, instead in Italy there has never been this, the
00:44national meta has always been underground, maybe we were the first, also thanks to
00:50songs like Enjoy the Silence, obviously they opened a discourse also on the radio or
00:55televisions that before maybe they would not have considered the metal band, so from
01:00us in reality little has changed.
01:01In the country of bel canto, metal is still a niche genre, not for the Lacuna Choir,
01:08who have managed to expand their horizons, becoming the most famous Italian metal band
01:13in the world.
01:14Today they return with the new album Sleepless Empire, the tenth work in the studio, released
01:19on February 14, in which between cinematic and dark atmospheres reflect on the society
01:24in which we live today, a generation trapped in a digital world where socials destroy
01:30identities.
01:31We imagined this world, which is a bit like the one we live in now, so completely
01:39digitized, compared to the world from which we come, completely analogous, we thought
01:44that we have always found ourselves in the middle, we have followed evolution, we have
01:50grown together over time, also adapting in some way, and it is a generation that never
01:58sleeps, always productive, that always feels the need to be present.
02:04With more than 30 years of active career, the Lacuna Choir have managed to create a
02:10very recognizable personal sound, a meeting point between classical metal and goth influences.
02:16From 1996 to today they have become the elfs of a genre that continues to conquer even
02:22unsuspecting names of pop.
02:24But it happens to us very often to talk with mainstream artists who do not do absolutely
02:30metal, but rather who are absolutely pop, who very often tell us that they are either
02:35metal listeners or they come from the hardcore scene, or in any case they did metal in some
02:43way.
02:44I remember that once I met Anna-Lisa in the dressing rooms, I went to see a show,
02:52there was a forum, there were Rengan, Eck and Pezzali, I know all three of them, even Max,
03:00by the way, a metalhead, many do not know him, and I met Anna-Lisa who was present as a
03:06guest on that occasion, we said hello, we had never met before, and she said to me
03:13I was training, I was warming up my voice with Heaven's Alive.
03:24When Lacuna Choir started, metal was climbing the charts, today the top ten is dominated
03:30by trap.
03:31Who are we to block the tastes of other people?
03:35Everyone expresses himself as he wants, that's right, we make the music we like,
03:42others can make music they like or listen to music they like.
03:46Yes, we have always listened to rap anyway, since we were kids, but perhaps trap now
03:53in Italy has taken on a form that is no longer even trap in reality, it is not so close
03:58to American trap, for example, it is something that has become almost a pop in Italian,
04:03a new kind of Italian music with certain rap styles, but not exactly rap, so yes,
04:10but maybe it is not so interesting, except for some artists, maybe they are more interesting
04:16than others, but as it is done in Italy, in my opinion it is a bit too derivative.
04:20Perhaps the beautiful thing about trap is the fact that many boys have approached
04:26writing, the fact of being able to put their thoughts, their poems into music in some way,
04:34so on a creative level it is still a nice thing.
04:40In the meantime, the Lacuna Coil are preparing to return to the stage with a tour that will
04:44start in South America in March and then make a stop in Europe in autumn.
04:48There will be the classic songs that make the fans of the Lacuna Coil sing,
04:54surely there will be Evans Aligh.
04:56Yes, let's say that now we are preparing especially the first part of the tour, which will be
05:01in South America, Central America and North America, so we are concentrating on that,
05:07then immediately after we will think of the European tour, which will be in autumn,
05:11and also in Milan, it will start from Milan, from Alcatraz, and surely there will be a bit of everything,
05:17new songs, old songs, some pearls, maybe from the past.
05:20Sanremo, on the other hand, does not seem to be in the plans of the band.
05:23I hardly see an invitation to the Lacuna Coil in Sanremo.
05:29Let's say that it has never even been in our thoughts, because obviously it is a world
05:33very far from ours, without anything to take away, obviously, but we see it difficult.
05:39Once we touched, then I don't know if we would have done it or not, but I remember that we were asked
05:45by Enrico Ruggeri to do the duet with him, but in reality we were on tour in America
05:51at that time, so we couldn't do it in any case, but I don't know if we would have really done it.
05:56Bye Enrico!
05:57Bye Enrico!
