00:12The U.S. Congress has approved an 11th-hour deal to end a government shutdown and pull
00:16the world's biggest economy back from the brink of a historic debt default. Capping
00:21weeks of political brinkmanship, President Barack Obama quickly signed the spending measure.
00:27The deal earlier passed the Senate and House of Representatives after Republicans dropped
00:31efforts to use the legislation to force changes in his signature health care law. The White
00:37House Budget Office told hundreds of thousands of federal workers to be ready to return to
00:41work today. The deal funds the government until January 15th and raises the debt ceiling
00:47until February 7th, so Americans face the possibility of another government shutdown
00:52early next year.
00:54The sporting season in the UAE revs up to top gear today, with the Under-17 FIFA World
00:59Cup kicking off in Abu Dhabi and Ras al-Khaimah. Hosts UAE take on Honduras in their opening
01:04Group A game from 8 p.m., while title contenders Brazil play Slovakia from 5 p.m. Both matches
01:12will be held at Mohammed bin Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi. Simultaneously, some of the
01:17best swimmers of the world will be in action at the two-day FINA World Cup, which takes
01:22off at the Hamdan bin Mohammed Sports Complex in Dubai.
01:27Eid al-Adha concerts continue over the weekend, with Iranian singer Darwish performing at
01:32Dubai World Trade Center, Bahraini artist Hala al-Turk singing at Dubai Mall, and Indian
01:37comedian Raju Srivastav opening up his bags of laughs at Crowne Plaza in Dubai tonight.
01:43Singer Rihanna will perform at Yas Island on Saturday for her Diamond World tour.
