00:00It was 5 years ago on a September 9th, the Dubai metro was rolled out.
00:19I was on board the first morning train that carried a few curious passengers.
00:24I don't know how long it will take to reach the end destination which is Nakhil Harbour
00:29station but who cares if the journey is as enjoyable as this.
00:34People were excited in Dubai but many were sceptic about leaving their private cars and
00:39embracing this new form of public transport.
00:44With 62 trains running on the red and green lines carrying 440,000 passengers daily, commuting
00:52has never been easier in Dubai.
00:54I love it because it's very clean and it's very frequent in the rush hours so that's
01:00what's good about it.
01:02It's quite nice, it's quite convenient, quite clean and it's easy to get to work, not too
01:07much time.
01:08I quite like it.
01:09It's very good for the people who are working in Dubai and it's very cheap and it's not
01:14so much costly.
01:16Dubai residents don't have to face the daily nightmare of having to sit in their car and
01:20stare at the endless rows of traffic.
01:23People tell us they are happy to leave their private cars and hop onto a metro.
01:27Some have even sold their cars because it's a great alternative to driving or hiding a
01:31cab.
01:32I see it as a simple way to go anywhere even though I have a car and sometimes I use the
01:37metro more than I drive in my car.
01:39I used to own a car.
01:40I sold the car once the metro started running.
01:43I used to go by cab and all so I've stopped going by cab and I'm using metro.
01:48Last year alone nearly 138 million people have travelled on metro.
01:53Currently there are 47 metro stations throughout the city, 29 on the red and 18 on the green
02:00line and during the peak hours there is a train every 3 minutes.
02:04Dubai metro has definitely become an integral part of everyday life in the city with its
02:09popularity increasing as you can see from the sheer number of passengers using it.
02:14We can only hope that there are more stations and trains coming up in future.
