00:00I think people like my collection from Debenhams because I offer Debenhams a piece of Julian
00:17Macdonald glamour.
00:18Over the years, you know, I've dressed probably the most wealthiest and most richest celebrities
00:23in the world.
00:24And what I do, I tend to kind of take inspiration from my own catwalk collections and I translate
00:31that style into the clothes that I design and make for Debenhams.
00:35Obviously, I have my signature things that I always do.
00:38For instance, my collections are always full of great prints.
00:42One of my favourite prints is an animal print.
00:45So every season, I'll try to kind of develop a new print in a different style and lots
00:51of colour and just lots of great fashionable clothes that obviously people love to buy.
01:00You can never say never.
01:02I would never not do anything, you know.
01:04If I like doing a particular thing, then I'll always love to do it.
01:08You know, it's never say never.
01:11You know, sometimes you might not like doing something, then the next year you might really
01:15totally enjoy doing it.
01:17So I like to do a varied selection of things.
01:20I'm constantly trying to do things to kind of look for inspiration as a fashion designer.
01:26I get inspired by the people around me and the places that I go, whether it be a great
01:31museum or whether it be a great location.
01:34I'm always looking for places or people or works of art to inspire me.
01:42I think variety is the spice of life.
01:44You know, I like doing different things.
01:46Nobody wants to be boring.
01:47I think, you know, when you keep yourself busy, you keep yourself alive and active.
01:53And I think I need that stimulus to inspire my collections.
01:57You know, for Debenhams, you know, I do so many things there.
02:00It changes constantly.
02:05Inspiration for me comes from travelling.
02:08I love travelling.
02:09I particularly love going to great cities.
02:12I think designers' eyes change constantly because fashion is like the wind.
02:17It changes every second.
02:19And I think the great thing is about fashion, it does change and it can become dated very quickly.
02:26So you always need to keep one step ahead of the game.
02:30And that is what's great and exciting about fashion is it changes every season from summer to winter.
02:37And there's new inspiration as the fashion trends stay and fashion trends come and then they go.
02:47I think there's a big difference between a good designer and a bad designer.
02:51You know, the good designers tend to be the ones that stay in fashion, you know, for a long time.
02:57I've been in fashion for almost 20 years.
03:00You know, I started my career with Chanel.
03:03Then I was the creative director of Givenchy.
03:06So, you know, I would like to say that I'm a talented fashion designer.
03:10But, you know, I like to kind of keep my head stable.
03:14And I think you must always maintain to be a normal person to enjoy life.
03:20And I think if you're good at your job, it doesn't matter what you do.
03:24You know, it's about a longevity.
03:26And people say to me, you know, what is your biggest success of your career?
03:31And I tend to think that my biggest success is the fact that I'm still doing it and it's still successful.
03:38And it keeps on growing and growing and growing.
03:43The interesting thing about fashion is you never know what is the next big thing.
03:47Because, you know, my life changes week to week.
03:51And, you know, it all depends what kind of projects that I'm working on.
03:55Obviously, I would love to kind of develop some menswear ranges as well.
03:59I've never designed men's clothes.
04:01I've only dressed three people.
04:04I've dressed David Beckham, Marilyn Manson and Mick Jagger.
04:09So, I've dressed three very famous guys.
04:13Very different tastes.
04:15Very different tastes.
04:16So, I'd love to develop a menswear collection with Debenhams.
04:19Obviously, I like sports. I'm an active person.
04:22You know, I'd like to design a sportswear collection as well.
04:26So, there's lots of things that I could do.
04:28Or even open my own Julia MacDonald store.
04:30Or even start a Julia MacDonald store.
04:33You never know what could happen next.
